All good choices

Flounder

I canโ€™t you donโ€™t have one of the best โ€œbased on a true storyโ€ movies ever: Fargo

Joe J

I would have preferred some different films...like maybe "All The Presidents Men" (1976) and "Patton" (1970). Looks like "The Right Stuff" will run away with this.

Smooticus

With the passing of Robert Redford, a recommendation of a few of his movies for anyone interested Three Days of the Condor The Natural Barefoot in the Park The Great Waldo Pepper Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid All the President's Men The Sting

Joe J

I've got a few others in mind for my picks. Still undecided, lol.

ButtercupsTrueLove

Ever since "Fargo", whenever a movie begins with, "This story is true", I take it with a grain of salt unless I've read about it in real headlines. For example - "Weapons" (2025).

Jeremy V.

Um none of these.

JAKH

"Sneakers" (1992) "A Bridge Too Far" (1977) *True Story* and +1 for "Three Days of the Condor" (1975)

Smooticus

I forgot about A Bridge Too Far. Probably because its such a huge cast. And holy shit, how did I forget Sneakers??

The Right Stuff is my second favorite 80s film, behind Raiders of the Lost Ark. I also love Rudy, one of the best sports movies ever. I am not a fan of Raging Bull or almost every Scorsese movie, except After Hours. I love hearing him talk about movies. I just don't like his movies.

thansen

I haven't seen The Great Waldo Pepper but those other movies are some my all time favorites. Also enjoyed Downhill Racer with the great Gene Hackman.

Totally Whatever

Sorry you don't like the options. We will have a different poll next week. We are working on sharing 3 full-length reactions a week to offer variety.

Shawn Goforth

This may be the most shocking poll result I have seen in over five years of doing this. The American Film Institute has listed Raging Bull as the #4 greatest American film ever made. 10 years prior to that, it was ranked at #24, which means it gained support as it got even older, climbing 20 spots.

REDR58

I also highly recommend Three Days of the Condor and Sneakers. A Bridge Too Far is pretty good too, but that is very much an ensemble movie and not particularly concentrating on Redfordโ€™s role.

Smooticus

Deservedly so. It's a good movie to watch with Hidden Figures

Byrd N. Hand

Coincidentally, its director, Philip Kaufman, also devised the story for "Lost Ark" with George Lucas. ๐Ÿ™‚ P.S. You don't even like a Scorsese film like "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore" or "Hugo"? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Byrd N. Hand

I'd add "The Candidate," "The Hot Rock," and "Brubaker." And, though they're from the '60s, "This Property Is Condemned," "The Chase," and "Tell Them Willie Boy Is Here."

Bill W

Organizations like AFI and AMPAS often don't reflect audience preferences. It seems odd for a film to climb 20 spots, even if it were over 20 years. Also odd that upon release The Right Stuff received high critical acclaim, but was a box-office bomb. So apparently that has since climbed a metaphorical 20 spot in the eyes of the viewing audience. ๐Ÿคฃ

Mike the Ginger

My vote went to Raging Bull, quite a fantastic film. Martin Scorsese directed, Deniro and Pesci.

softshoes

People with the Right Stuff know which one to choose.๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘

Jeremy V.

Oh sure pay no mind to me I like to critique polls. I love you guys. I support about a bakers dozen of Patreon reactors at any given time. And you and your sister have sky rocketed to my top 5.

Bill W

Lord Jeremy. Same here, and my selections are rarely, if ever, the poll winner. I would have picked 4 different movies for this poll topic, but since this is what's on the menu I went with The Right Stuff. I like Rudy a lot, but there's already a number of Rudy's on YT. The Right Stuff could use a little action. We'll do Rudy some other time.

Kevin Rubio

THE RIGHT STUFF (1983) is definitely the one out of all the choices given, but I am sad that RAGING BULL (1980) is only at 7% as of this posting. THE INSIDER (1999) is also a wonderful film.

Kevin Rubio

It's a masterpiece, but admittedly, THE RIGHT STUFF is more of a "feel good" movie - man's triumph, and all.

Totally Whatever

We are enjoying Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci too much - we will have to fit Raging Bull into the schedule at some point.
