Yeah it's basically Goonies vs. The Universal Monsters. Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, The Mummy, The Wolfman, and Creature from the Black Lagoon. Although they didn't have the rights to use Universal Monsters so they skirted around that fact and had the legendary Stan Winston create the looks for them all. The Wolfman's look is based on Stan. Mary Ellen Trainor was the mom in Goonies and also the Police psychiatrist in Lethal Weapon. Eugene's Dad (who didn't look in the closet) is the guy from Die Hard at the beginning to walk around and make fists with your toes Several references to the Universal Monster movies were all throughout this. the armadillo was in the 30's Dracula. Browning on the side of the plane. Chaney College named after Lon Chaney Jr who was the Wolf man. Oh and the Cat Head teacher is reference to Cat People. Even a recreation of Frankenstein meeting the little girl by the pond is referenced when he meets Phoebe The movie is supposed to be set in Louisiana although never mentioned. But swamp motif is spread throughout. I think they mentioned it in the commentary. Movie is co-written by Shane Black who did Lethal Weapon (which was released 6 months prior) Sadly, Brent Chalem, who played Horace tragically died of pneumonia in 1997. He never got to see how much his character was a fan favorite. Probably one of my favorites with Scary German Guy is you get to see his backstory before the reveal he was in a concentration camp. Patrick's line of "What's German for please don't kill us?" and he answers. Then in his house you see the menorah in the background. Then he tells Patrick about the B-17...all the little details adding up to the conclusion. One of the things I never noticed as a kid but got when I was older, was that the mom was going to leave the dad. After he shot Dracula and took off, the dad runs into the house looking for Sean. You can see she has several suitcases packed up by the door. I highly recommend the documentary Wolfman's Got Nards, shows just how much of a cult classic this is.

Oh and the guy who was wanting to get locked up since he was a werewolf is Uncle Rico from Napoleon Dynamite

This played on HBO so much in the 90s! Haven't seen it in about 10 years but I know it by heart lol. Stan Shaw played the Detective who got blown up and he did show up in Matlock and Murder, She Wrote. Some trivia: Due to licensing issues, the crew had to create characters that were suggestive -- but not exact copies -- of Universal's iconic monsters. "The challenge was to suggest those classic creatures, without really copying them," explained Shane Mahan, "because we didn't have permission or the license to use those specific images. So we could do a 'Gillman,' (the sea creature) for example, but it couldn't look too much like the Creature from the Black Lagoon. It was frustrating for us at first, because, of course, we wanted to do the original designs! But we couldn't. We could only suggest those designs. So the Frankenstein monster looks a bit like the Karloff creature; but instead of bolts in the neck, he has bolts in the forehead. There was a certain percentage of changes we had to make to get away from any legal copyright infringement."

I only vaguely remember this movie from when it was released. I was not of the age it was targeted at. PIB posted this on YT recently and it died a quick death, lol. Basically, I think a mostly forgotten movie not on the radar of many people anymore.

Harvey Lee

Oh you're spoiling us with all these awesome classics 😁 The Goonies meets the Universal monsters not surprisingly i have many of the universal classics in my collection . The kids are all well cast , very likable and it's endearing as they go on this battle against the monsters , great popcorn flick for the horror season Thanks N+C ❤️😁

I understand the cult film status. I just needed something that wasn't in the rotation of the same 75 films reactors have to be subjected to on YT.

It does seem like a lot of these channels coordinate to react to the same thing at the same time. Could explain why some don't do well.

Totally Whatever

The fists with your toes guy! We didn't notice that. Thanks for all the extra trivia. So sad to hear about Brent Chalem.

Totally Whatever

We try not to react to the same movies at the same time, but we don't know their schedules. The holidays make it hard since they limit our options. We really love Patreon; it gives us the ability to watch movies that aren't always in rotation.

Totally Whatever

We will have to look for him in Matlock and Murder, She Wrote! Thanks for the trivia.

Wade Wallenstein

My Mother loved Matlock and Murder, She Wrote so we watched them often lol

Hi! I’ve been searching for a way to watch the 1983 miniseries the Thornbirds with someone else online. I can buy it, but its not on here where we would where we could watch it together. Please let me know let me know. I guarantee you other people would love it and you get lots of people to do it. Especially women. Thank you
