Butch Cassidy, the Sundance Kid, Quint, and Mr. Hand all in one movie. 🙂

The opening title credits and the wipe transitions pays homage to movies of this depression era (1930s). The title cards for each act are a holdover from the silent era. $3000 dollars in 1936 is now the equivalent of $72,100 when adjusted for inflation. You were correct. Robert Shaw, noted British actor/writer/director, did play both Lonnegan and Quinn. If fact it was because of this movie that he was considered for the role of Quinn. Both films were produced by Universal Pictures. Moxie is a brand of carbonated beverage that is among the first mass-produced soft drinks in the United States. It was created around 1876 by Augustin Thompson as a patent medicine called "Moxie Nerve Food" and was produced in Lowell, Massachusetts. Advertised to give the consumer "vim & vigor!" The reader who discovered and recommended the movie The Sting was Rob Cohen, who was working as a reader for agent Mike Medavoy at the time. Cohen wrote a glowing review in his "coverage," calling it "the great American screenplay" and predicting it would become an award-winning film. Medavoy sold the script to Universal that same afternoon based on Cohen's recommendation. The Sting went on to win the Oscar for best picture that year, along with the Oscar for best screenplay, best director, and best cinemaphotography. Robert Cohen became a director in his own right and is probably best known as the director of the very first FAST & FURIOUS movie.

We love reading your insider trivia, Kevin. Moxie is still very popular in Maine, and I know many Mainers who drink it regularly. I've tried but failed - it is an acquired taste.

Nanette you didn't recognize Eileen Brennan from Clue?

Great reaction! Thanks for sharing! I'm behind in my watching. :( This is a good movie. But. Not having seen it until now, and having watched lots of Con shows or movies, I knew what was going to happen. It's the danger of waiting too long before seeing a movie. When it's the one that starts it all, or certainly early as there are earlier con job type shows and movies, it's bound to be repeated. This did win a lot of awards, of course. What's equally interesting to me is how the cons change over the years. In this, they have five minutes or more before the Western Union person announces it. I have seen recent versions of this where they intercept the feed, of whatever, and it's seconds or milliseconds. Take care!
