1984 version of A Christmas Carol

Comments

Miles E Coburn

Which "A Christmas Carol" movie? There's quite a number of versions? My particular version is the 1984 film with George C. Scott as Scrooge.

Smooticus

What? No Muppet Christmas Carol????

Wade Wallenstein

Great choice! It's one I watch every Christmas โ˜บ๏ธ

Joe J

Very random. Christmas movie or war film...what will it be? lol

Byrd N. Hand

Mine is the 1970 musical "Scrooge" with Albert Finney and Alec Guinness. Finney is still the best ever Scrooge, IMO. I haven't seen the '84 TV movie in decades, but I remember not being that into George C. Scott's rather Patton-esque take on the character. He never really came off as a miserable old miser to me, but more like just a snide, sarcastic a-hole. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ That said, the girls might be interested in seeing both David Warner (the photographer from "The Omen") and Susannah York (Superman's biological mother in the Christopher Reeve "Superman" movies) again, as Mr. and Mrs. Crachit.

Mark M

It's a personal fav๐Ÿ‘

thebeefmaster

Yes to, the 1970 musical "Scrooge" with Albert Finney and Alec Guinness.

Kevin Rubio

Well, I'm assuming TORA, TORA TORA! (1970) and THE POESIDON ADVENTURE (1972) are there because the first takes place on December 7, and the second takes place on December 31. Outside of that, they're not very "Christmasie." (As Mr. Hanky would say) They are however, both good films, and an interesting look at movie making in this time period. BATTLE OF THE BULGE (1965) takes place on Christmas, so you got that covered. Can't really connect SOLDIER (1998) to the holiday, but there was a bidding war for the script when it first came to light. People tried to make it for a few years. I found it... ok. There are over 12 versions of "A Christmas Carol," and I'm not sure which on you are putting up for a vote, so I can't really consider that one. If it were THE MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL, it'd be a shoe-in. Incidentally SCROOGED (1988) is another one of those versions of "A Christmas Carol," but it is the best on this list, and my pick for your holiday viewing pleasure.

Joseph George

I'm already Christmas'd out so anything other that Christmas movies I'm down for

Mike the Ginger

Interesting poll. I was kinda rooting to see "While You Were Sleeping" before Christmas. There is still time! LOL My votes went to Scrooged, Jingle All the Way, and The Poseidon Adventure.

Phil Stubblefield

I'm with Mike: I would vote for While You Were Sleeping (1995) ahead of any movie on the current poll (although Tora, Tora, Tora would be very close!).

KarlABQ60

If we watch The Poseidon Adventure this is a chance to see Leslie Nielsen in one of his serious roles.

Bill W

Of course. The last one I'd choose is running away with it.

Mark M

I've been holding off on watching Planes, Trains and Automobiles in the hope it would be a reaction.

Mike the Ginger

That is a classic. I just hate watching holiday films *after* the holidays. Movies like While You Were Sleeping and Trading Places are not as fun after the holidays. But who knows what the girls have up their sleeves. We still have a month to go!

bahstuffandnonsense

I'm not at all surprised to see Scrooged leading, but I do think it would be a loss for the ladies to react to that without having seen a traditional version first. And I give kudos for a more eclectic poll; why not try something different?

Bill Elliott

Agree, if they have never seen a Christmas Carol Before they should start with a classic, 1984 George C Scott for the win!

Byrd N. Hand

They've already done the first one, and the YT edit for the second one comes out in less than a week. Those are the only 2 that are Christmas-related.

Byrd N. Hand

For me, the Muppets were never the same after Jim Henson's death -- just as Looney Tunes wasn't after the deaths of Friz Freleng, Chuck Jones, and Mel Blanc. But I suppose if you're a Millennial or younger, you may not be able to tell the difference. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Totally Whatever

We won't be doing Planes, Trains, and Automobiles this Thanksgiving. We missed it, so we have to save it for next year. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

REDR58

I love A Christmas Carol 1984. Itโ€™s my favorite version!

JAKH

The absolute best Christmas movie ever is a little outside your normal time frame, but Totally Worth It: "Violent Night" (2021) - starring David Harbour as Santa Claus
