I have never heard of this movie, but IMDB looks very interesting. So I'll experience it for the first time today with y'all! As I hinted at during the live chat, if you want to see chemical warfare gone mad, and nearly everyone on earth killed, You really should look at Steven King's "The Stand". It's an ensemble cast, but I think Rob Lowe does an outstanding job while hardly saying anything during the movies. There's four 90-minute episodes, so it wouldn't take long to do. It's on Prime. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108941/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_3_tt_6_nm_2_in_0_q_the%2520stand

The legend goes that this is actually a final Connery 007 without saying it…….and that fits really well, this is the epitome of 90s action, the best of Cage…..great rewatch

+99999 for The Stand

Totally Whatever

Nice! Let us know what you think. We have The Stand on the top of our list.

Harvey Lee

As you may have noticed already Others have commented that this is an unofficial James Bond movie A what if James Bond was captured and is now much older scenario . The world can always use 007's help I'm ready with my Connery and Nic Cage impressions 😄.

Greg In East TN

Make sure it's the 90s version. There was a remake I think in this century. Not sure of the year. Y'all are the best!

AdrianF

I'd probably try to learn how to cartwheel if you do it before Xmas! (no promises)

AdrianF

Greg, girls 1994 is the year of the one to watch

Thanks. I was just lazy to look it up. LOL I have it on DVD and I stream it. What a classic and a great cast.

AdrianF

I love it. It's obv a TV deal and that's fine to me, considering the Amber Heard abomination. The cast is fantastic! I can't stream it here - luckily there's a rip on YT which is a convenient go-to but I have it on disc as well.

Greg In East TN

I have tried to get my favorite shows and movies on DVD. I may want to watch them 20 years from now, and there's no guarantee they'll still be streaming then.

I'm glad you enjoyed this action packed ride of a movie! I saw it in theatres when it came out. Nicolas Cage wasn't really an action star until this movie. He followed it up with Con Air and Face/Off which i think you would also enjoy. My favourite line in this movie(a bunch of good ones) "what do you say we cut the chit chat A-HOLE!"😆

Bill Elliott

Was thinking the same thing Mark, I saw it too back when Nick Cage was more the dramatic RomCom type, also in the theaters, this was one of Michael Bay’s earlier hits.

Bill Elliott

Great one guys and thx for the shout out, will leave a comment on You Tube too when it drops there. Also, super pumped for the You Tube poll and those four war movies, those are all amazing films. If Apocalypse Now wins, consider reading Joseph Conrad’s “Heart of Darkness” if you weren’t forced to back high school or college, he was Polish and he wrote in English, but it’s what Coppola used for story for Apocalypse Now.

AdrianF

I have a couple of copies :/ of the EU DVD as well but it did get a decent Blu-Ray release a couple/few years ago. The '4K' versions on YT are upscaled from that BR I think.

Great reaction! I love this movie! - As you said, Michael Bay films don't mess around, they get right into the action. - Nicolas Cage yelling "Freeze Mister!" was hilarious and cringey - The music was fantastic and I couldn't help but notice it reminded me of the score from "Backdraft". Sure enough, it was done by Hans Zimmer, who also did films including "Backdraft" and "True Romance". - That chase scene was even more hilarious than I remembered! Those wheel chair guys with the basketballs show up in "Bad Boys" as well. - The British Intelligence line had to be a James Bond reference for sure. Sean Connery is and always will be who I picture when I hear the name James Bond. - This film has the same actor playing the President as in "Armageddon", another Michael Bay directed film. That technically means once could argue that "The Rock" and "Armageddon" take place in the same movie universe. I would also throw into that universe other Bay and Bruckheimer films like "Bad Boys", and "Con-Air". I think if you guys watch them, you will notice very similar pacing, music, serious dark action combined with humor, and many of them seem to have father-daughter emotional conflicts.

Totally Whatever

Thanks, Bill. It looks like Apocalypse Now has won the poll.

Totally Whatever

Thanks, Mike. That chase scene was WILD! Con-Air might be our next Nic Cage movie; it has been recommended by a lot of people.

Bill Elliott

“I love the smell of napalm in the morning” one of a hundred great quotes, you guys are in for a treat, it’s a cinematic master piece. Spare a thought for ”Glory” down the line though, Morgan Freeman has an epic monologue and Denzel Washing is amazing in it, consider it around July 4th maybe.

I finally got around to this one. Great fun as usual, Nanolyn! Two comments: * Watching so much glass being broken made me realize that we need a special-purpose reaction. MythBusters episode 210 (season 2014, episode 3), titled "Hollywood Car Crash Cliches", tackled the movie myth of a car driving through a large pane of glass without injuring the workers carrying it. I'm sure Carolyn would *love* an investigation into Hollywood glass shattering! * Anyone who's ever lived in the area would recognize that the final scene in which Nic Cage and his fiancée drove away from the church in "Kansas" was obviously shot in the midst of an orange or lemon grove in Southern California, possibly near where I grew up in Ventura County (just north of LA County). You could even see the stereotypical wind breaks of eucalyptus trees in the background! Keep up the good work, my friends! 😁

The music sounds like "Pirates of the Caribbean" because both were done by Hans Zimmer. Other good 1990's Hans Zimmer: "Backdraft" (1991) - you already reacted to "Black Hawk Down" (2001) - *True Story* - directed by Ridley Scott "The Peacemaker" (1997) - George Clooney, Nicole Kidman "Broken Arrow" (1996) - Christian Slater, John Travolta "Renaissance Man" (1994) - Danny Devito - comedy "Bird on a Wire" (1990) - Mel Gibson, Goldie Hawn - comedy/action "A League of Their Own" (1992) *Inspired by True Events* - Tom Hanks, Geena Davis "Crimson Tide" (1994) - Gene Hackman, Denzel Washington He also did all 3 of the Christopher Nolan "Batman" movies, and the first 2 Zack Snyder DC movies: "Man of Steel" and "Batman Vs. Superman".

JAKH

Other great 1990's car chases: "Ronin" (1998) "The Peacemaker" (1997) "Heat" (1995)

JAKH

More in San Francisco: "The Towering Inferno" (1994) - top notch all star ensemble cast "Dirty Harry" (1971) + "Magnum Force" (1973) + The Enforcer" (1976) - Clint Eastwood "Escape from Alcatraz" (1979) *True Story* - Clint Eastwood, Fred Ward "The Presidio" (1988) - Sean Connery "San Andreas" (2015)

JAKH

more good Ed Harris: "Absolute Power" (1997) - another all-star cast "Milk Money" (1994) - comedy

JAKH

Good 1990's Sean Connery: "Entrapment" (1999) - great for New Year's Eve "Rising Sun" (1993) - based on a book by Michael Crichton "The Presidio" (1988)

Totally Whatever

What a great idea! An episode completely devoted to breaking glass is perfect for Carolyn.
