Now you need to watch Rockstar with Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Aniston. You have no idea how cool this movie is.

Crimson Ace

I've always adored this film. On your own time, I highly recommend the extended version, as it offers more character development, particularly for Penny and William. Also, the creation of and what happened behind the scenes are just as captivating as the film. Thanks for a great reaction, and thanks, Shawn, for the request.

Gábor Árki

The extended version is one of my all-time favorite films, but I've never really connected with the theatrical cut. It feels rushed and compressed to me, and a lot of great character moments are missing, including many of Russell's redeeming scenes. I'd highly recommend checking out the extended cut at some point. Personally, I think the added character development puts it right up there with the Lord of the Rings extended editions in terms of improvement over the TC.

Doesn't watching a movie from the year 2000 break your movie rules? LOL just kidding

Gábor Árki

Technically, according to calendar rules, 2000 is still the 90s. The 00's only started on January 1st, 2001.

Totally Whatever

We will look into the extended version, thanks. So glad you enjoyed this reaction!

For more excellent movies by Cameron Crowe check out Say Anything (1989), Singles (1992) and Jerry Maguire (1996).

Totally Whatever

Will do! I've seen Say Anything but I don't think Carolyn has.

Shawn Goforth

I'm sure Jerry Maguire is going to keep landing in our comments until we close out Cameron Crowe's contributions to our youth.

Leonard VanProoyen

One of my favorite movies, well done! I had quite a similar experience at about the same age so I relate to this film! In high school, I was a photographer and was able to get a job with our city newspaper, our city magazine and got involved with the main rock radio station in town. The newspaper had a Saturday section written by high school kids on things that interested us, like main stream music. This started in 1979 through 1981 and essentially I got to see every show that came through town during that time from bands like Alice Cooper to Van Halen. Probably about 20 shows during that time. I was naive and innocent and was just excited to get great shots. Soon, the radio station would place me at the front wall below the stage, and the radio dj's would let the bands know that I was there shooting so usually every mobile musician would work their way to me and perform a bit so I could get great photos! Then we would also get backstage passes where a teenage journalist would interview the band members with me and then publish the story. I had NO clue what I was really involved in at the time, getting contact buzzes and in this world of sex, drugs, rock and roll while interviewing folks like Ozzy from Black Sabbath, Ted Nugent, Def Leppard, etc...! My first beer was given to me by Fee Waybill, the lead singer from "The Tubes" backstage to begin the interview (along with a dozen others)! Again I was just a kid and petrified that I had a beer in my hand, knowing that I had to face my parents later at home...so I faked drinking the beer (so pathetic)! Anyway, while I never traveled with a band like the movie, I do have a special connection to this fantastic film!

Wow, Leonard! Your experience sounds just like the movie - it’s like you were living out the script! Thank you for sharing that story with us. We can only imagine how incredible your photos from that time must be.
