Fantastic movie... excited to watch this. Hope you're both having a spectacular day.

Harvey Lee

Hello Clarice !!! ( You can hear the voice ..) It is indeed a police procedural horror thriller Emphasis on the horrific parts Yes it is also the only Horror film to have won the Oscar for Best picture . Look forward to this TW ladies 🖤🖤

Michael Lynch

Yes yes yes! Ooooohh I can just see you girls squirm. I can’t wait to watch this one.

Michael Lynch

By the way, I think I remember hearing that Jody Foster was so terrified of Anthony Hopkins that she stayed away from him until she had her scenes with him. He truly became that character.

Harvey Lee

To be specific , Silence of the Lambs is the only horror film to have won Best Picture and swept up the major awards as well . The Oscars are pretty snobby when it comes to horror films. Other Horror films have been nominated like The Exorcist which was the first horror film to get a best picture nomination It didn't win that , But won for best screenplay and best sound Kathy Bates won a Best actress award for Misey But otherwise yes it is a small club of winners . I enjoy sharing this trivia .😉

A near perfect movie for me. I don't think the first 20 minutes have been bettered.

Crimson Ace

Releasing your full reaction to this cinematic masterpiece today was a wonderful birthday present. Thank you! I could talk endlessly about this film and the choices of Jonathan Demme, and I highly recommend watching this one multiple times. With every subsequent viewing, you’ll notice more and more elements that will reinforce why this film is one of the greatest ever made. It's also one of only three films in history to win "The Big Five" at the Oscars (Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, and Writing).

Crimson Ace

Before Lambs, the best pieces of Demme's portfolio were music videos. Shortly after Lambs, he did Philadelphia (1993)... which has a lot of the same emotional weight to ground it... but Lambs is his magnum opus, for sure. Sidenote: Demme's Stop Making Sense (1984) is one of the greatest concert films ever made. For anyone who hasn't seen it, I encourage you to check out this 6-minute single track. I'm exhausted just thinking about it. lol https://youtu.be/8al5cSQNmME?si=_fkQ9XJKDcvp-9J4

Happy Birthday, Crimson Ace! We’ve been saving the perfect reaction just for your big day. ;) We hope you had a fantastic day celebrating.

Totally Whatever

It blew us away, especially Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins.

This is my first time watching Nanette being traumatized by a horror movie, I mean her hands weren't down most of the time 😂, but Carolyn took it like a Champ, I see a future agent of the FBI on her.

REDR58

Philadelphia from 1993 is an excellent suggestion by the way.

Good reaction! - I did the obstacle course in basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX when I was 21 years old. It was fun. - I used to have a recorder like that, from Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992). It was called the "talkboy". - Carolyn seemed offended when Lecter called Clarice's shoes "second rate" (I was validated when Carolyn mentioned him being rude about the shoes a few minutes later) LOL - This was a great movie, it won Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Adapted Screenplay. So strange to imagine a movie like this winning an Oscar nowadays. Shows how much better films were 20-30 years ago. - The first sequel "Hannibal", was a big deal back in 2001, ten years after this one. Unfortunately, Jodie Foster did not return and they recast the role of Clarice with Julianne Moore. I like Julianne Moore, but it just isn't the same and it is one of the great movie casting tragedies, IMO. I actually think the second sequel, "Red Dragon", a prequel, from 2002, is pretty good. You both seemed to really be enthralled by this film. I have a feeling this one might be one that the two of you look back on in your "best watches" 2026 list.

Cameron Kerby

Great reaction ladies. If want another Anthony Hopkins movie, one where he’s not that creepy, I suggest The Edge from 1997. Alec Baldwin costars as well. It’s a pretty great wilderness adventure that I’m sure you’ll enjoy.

Totally Whatever

I couldn't get my hands down - I knew there was a reason why I avoided this movie! I couldn't agree more. Carolyn would be perfect for the FBI.

Totally Whatever

ha ha - I WAS offended. ;) I would love to do that obstacle course. You might be right - I have a feeling this will be mentioned in the best of 2026.

Great reaction! Say what you will about Buffalo Bill, he has great taste in music 😆

"Goodbye Horses" by the late Q Lazzarus (Diane Luckey) a banger: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bIr9IDXFfA Edit: a little bit about Luckey from the Wikipedia article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Q_Lazzarus): "In the 1980s, Luckey worked as a taxi driver in New York City to make a living. During this time, she adopted the stage name Q Lazzarus and began making music with her band, Q Lazzarus and the Resurrection. The name 'Q' comes from the Alutiiq word Quiana, which means thank you, and 'Lazzarus' comes from the story of Lazarus in the Bible, whom Jesus raised from the dead. The band consisted of Lazzarus, songwriter William Garvey, and backup singers Gloriana Galicia and Janice Bernstein. According to Galicia, by 1985, Lazzarus was working in Chelsea as a live-in housekeeper and au pair for an English businessman named Swan, and the band would record vocal harmonies on cassette at Swan's house; Lazzarus also had a number of other day jobs at the time. Lazzarus was repeatedly turned away by record companies, who insisted they could not market her because of her image. After picking up filmmaker Jonathan Demme in her taxi during a blizzard and asking him if he was in the music business, she played him her demo tape, to which he replied: "What is this and who are you?" Her song "Candle Goes Away" was then included in Demme's film Something Wild (1986). In 1987, Lazzarus and her good friend William Garvey recorded the song "Goodbye Horses" in his East Village apartment. The following year, thanks to Q's fateful meeting with Demme, the song was included in Demme's film Married to the Mob (1988). It later became a cult hit following its inclusion in a scene from Demme's film The Silence of the Lambs (1991) featuring the film's antagonist, serial killer Buffalo Bill."

You should both go! See who runs out in the middle of the night first!

Jodie Foster is in a very good David Fincher movie called “Panic Room” from 2002. I know it’s outside of your range for the channel but you should definitely check it out of your own. The filming location for the FBI Academy training course is the real location at 57 Bureau Pkwy, Stafford, VA 22556, USA. Jodie Foster was about 27 years old during the filming of this movie. Somehow she looks much younger than that! Anthony Hopkins was about 52 years old. Barney, the main orderly at Lector’s hospital that interacts with Clarice, is played by the great Frankie Faison who was in the excellent HBO series “The Wire.” He also returns for the other Anthony Hopkins’ Hannibal Lecter movies in the same role. You should check the special features of your DVD/Blu-ray because with some versions there should be an answering machine message from Anthony Hopkins among the special features. If your disc doesn’t have that, you can hear it here: https://youtu.be/L5mtSDXMcIk?si=2JPdJ469HoftqpwQ If you want to see Anthony Hopkins in quite a different role, check out “Remains of the Day” (1993) with Emma Thompson. Clarice’s classmate Ardelia Mapp is played by Kasi Lemmons, who is an actor and director. The car in Hester Moffett storage garage was not a hearse. It is a rare 1939 Packard Twelve (referring to its V-12 engine) of which only 446 of its kind were built and you can see some blurry photos of the outside and inside of the actual car used in the movie here: www.victorycars.com/inventory_details.asp?InventoryNum=611 The car was evidently sold some time ago. Ted Levine, who plays Buffalo Bill/Jack Gordon/Jame Gumb is also in the very excellent movie “Heat” (1995) with Al Pacino and Val Kilmer. The funeral home organist who assists with the examination of the body at the funeral home is played by retired character actor Tracey Walter and he is also in Jonathan Demme’s movie Philadelphia as well as several of his other films. It almost seems like Lecter is saddened to hear of the effect of Clarice’s father‘s death on her. Whether it’s genuine or not towards her, he did have a little bit of emotion when she relayed that information. The singer Chris Isaak (famous for “Wicked Game” from 1989 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jd-qI62gNJM) is one of the members of the SWAT team, and you can see him briefly getting out of the back of the police car that shows up after Lecter apparently escapes and then again on the left side of the foreground talking to the police officer who tells him Lecter on top of the elevator. He then relays the order to shoot “Lecter” in the leg and then has a little more dialogue. Lauren Roselli who plays Stacy, the friend of Fredrica Bimmel, also appears in the movie Philadelphia. You can see her and Frederica together in a photograph in Fredrica bedroom. I think it's implied that Frederica was a former lover/girlfriend of Bill’s and that’s who took the Polaroid photos of her that were hidden in her music box. Bill has other Polaroid photos of himself and exotic dancers pinned up on the walls of one of his basement rooms. Bill's basement is almost absurdly large and some of it circles back on itself. If you are interested, here is a site that looks at the design of the basement’s layout, including photos of the model used in its construction: https://www.jeremyhlinak.com/buffalo-bills-basement The nightmare in the bathtub in the basement is the remains of the former owner of the home, Mrs. Lippman, who was mentioned earlier by Frederica's friend Stacy. Though this movie is set in Tennessee, West Virginia, Maryland, it was mostly filmed in and around the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area: https://movie-locations.com/movies/s/Silence-Of-The-Lambs.php Anyway great reaction for you both!

Totally Whatever

Thanks as always for the incredible trivia! We will add “Panic Room” and “Remains of the Day” to the list. That site with the layout of Bill’s basement is fantastic—the level of detail they included is wild. Thatbasement was so massive!

ButtercupsTrueLove

I respectfully disagree with Mike's assessment of "Hannibal". The famed director who took over the franchise went for a completely different style compared with the late Jonathan Demme, based on Thomas Harris' followup novel. Julianne Moore, IMO, does a spectacular job of playing an older and more experienced Clarice Starling, and does justice to the role. I won't spoil the rest of the esteemed cast of "Hannibal" in case Carolyn and Nanette decide to watch it and the prequel to "Silence...", "Red Dragon".

ButtercupsTrueLove

Quite possibly, but given that the other two movies that I've watched that were directed by Jonathan Demme were "Married to the Mob" (1988) and "Rachel Getting Married" (2008), his project choices don't seem limited to any particular genre.

REDR58

I want a big basement like that, but not as horrible!😄

Anthony Donato

Great reaction again ladies! Cameron gave you a great suggestion, The Edge is a great movie I also think you will enjoy. Anthony Hopkins is fantastic like he always is in any of his roles.
