I love this movie even despite Tea Leoni... Actually, that's unfair. I only went off her after JP3, where she was insufferable (she too thinks highly of me). PS, the dinosaur on your t-shirt is alive.

Armchair Rizzard

This is *the* best disaster movie period. It makes me emotional every time.

Terry In the UK

I would usually say something about how much I love this film ( which I do ), but instead I'm just gonna say R I P to the wonderful Robert Duvall. Hope you're both having a spectacular week.

Wade Wallenstein

I've always preferred this to Armageddon because it's so much more grounded and "personal" in what would actually happen. It was one of the first DVDs we bought and I still have it lol

AdrianF

If you'd have asked me two hours ago I would've preferred Armageddon over this. I forgot how good this got. Tie.

Totally Whatever

I wonder if there is a movie out there where it does obliterate the earth.

Harvey Lee

Yes this was a good one ,and categorized as something that was a twin film to Armageddon as they were rival films that were so similar But I felt Deep Impact was much more grounded , emotional with better acting and pardon the pun it definitely made a deeper impact 😉 Also RIP to the great Robert Duvall 🙏 Getting ready for this tonight Thanks TW ladies ❤️🖤🔥

Jay Davis

I would've said Deep Impact is to Fail Safe as Armageddon is to Dr. Strangelove... but then I realized I'd be putting Michael Bay on the same level as Kubrick and scrapped the whole comment.

Tarjei

Laura Innes did star in ER, so did Ron Eldard who plays Oren the mission commander (my favourite role of his was as Colton Rhodes in Justified).

I was 26 in the summer of 98 when both this and Arremgdon hit theaters............I think this is 1 of the most underappreciated movies of the 90s, and 1 of my faves.............just did a full rewatch with you.................. Arremgdon is a bombastic popcorn movie of fun..............but this movie is grounded in reality, and allowed to breathe, create lasting characters that matter and give real impact to the viewer...........when I was 26, canceling over 50-year-olds made sense lol, F them old people............now im mid 50s and im like ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm........................the real loss is how different this movie is vs today's movies....if done now it would look and feel fake with non stop cgi, green screen, endless fast cuts, and crazy action scenes due to the lack of vision or patience in todays younger audience......sad......and last....the 2 reasons i adore this reaction channel is you ladies never try to act like film students, i get so bored at other channels not watching things but trying to act like they are in film school....2nd, the emotional capacity from laughs, to tears you ladies shed when a movie really hits.................my throw in title.......1999 thomas crown affair.......check out trailer

Hello Nanette and Carolyn! I’m so glad y’all watched this great movie. I love it so much. I do prefer it over Armageddon, which I found out via another comment that y’all are watching in the summer. That’s got me stoked. The way I look at it, Deep Impact=more heart, Armageddon=more fun. Also, since Robert Duvall was in this movie and, so very much sadly he just passed away, I’d like to reiterate my suggestion for Lonesome Dove. Since it is a 4 part miniseries, maybe it might be best suited for your new channel. Robert did say that his character in Lonesome Dove was his favorite out of ALL of his characters. I hope all is well with both of you.

- It should have been a sign of bad things to come when the movie began with such "soothing spa music". - Gene Shoemaker was an American geologist who discover the comet that hit Jupiter back in 1994. He died in a car accident while visiting an impact crater in Australia in 1997. He was a science consultant on this film, killed before it was released, similar to Dr. Wolf's character. Dr. Wolf was played by Charles Martin Smith, known for films like The Untouchables and American Graffiti, which I am sure you guys will eventually watch. - Test audiences who saw this movie overwhelmingly wanted less of the Elijah Wood/Leelee Sobieski teenage storyline, so they edited their roles down. - Morgan Freeman plays a very good President, but personally, I think the entire ARK plan was absolutely awful. You are going to have 800,000 Americans saved in a nation of hundreds of millions? A national lottery? Good grief what a horrible plan. - I agree about worry for the bike being stolen, and maybe I am naive for saying this, but I actually feel like we were *slightly* more civilized in 1998 than we are over a quarter of a century later. Remember, a 22 year old bike thief thug wasn't even born until 2004. It is a very sad film, I first saw as a young teen around 2002 or so, and I appreciate it more as an adult. That being said, it really messed you guys up. I have a feeling "Deep Impact" may be on the "saddest movies/biggest cries" on your 2026 watchlist recap video. Had this comet impact occurred exactly as in the movie, just with the smaller impact, that would be certainly the disaster of the millennia, if not all of recorded history going back over 5,000 years. Can't wait to watch "Armageddon", hopefully later this year! It is different than this movie and I think you guys will enjoy that one too.

I thought Tea Leoni did a great job in this role, and I enjoy her work in Bad Boys (1995) and The Family Man (2000). I also think she is attractive, so that could just be me. :D

In this reaction I really knew that Nanette was gonna be gushing in tears on this one, but what surprised me by a little was that Carolyne said that scene that really got her was the safe space of the little girl when destruction was coming; when you have the both sisters in tears you know the movie was GOOD.

Powers209

I like this movie.

Totally Whatever

We hope you enjoy our reaction, Harvey. We weren't prepared for this one.

Totally Whatever

Thanks for this comment, Christopher. We didn't expect this one to hit so hard. YES, we need our 50-year-olds - that was scary. lol

Totally Whatever

Yes, we plan to watch that this summer. It was so sad to hear about Robert Duvall's passing. We've watched a bunch of his movies on this channel - what an incredible actor. We do have Lonesome Dove on our short list of TV shows/miniseries. We hope you are well, too.

Totally Whatever

I don't know how this became our biggest cries so far! Didn't expect that. It makes it harder when the sad scenes are one after the other. No time to recover!

Tarjei

I don't believe he had huge role. Been ages since I was the show, he might have only been in one season.

FranciscoGios

I don't think I've seen you Carolyn with this version of you since you guys started your guys channel, Vanila Sky was close but not like this.

Prof Moff

I love this one and I love that it IS so sad. It should be. When this really happens (hopefully not in my lifetime but it will) that is how it would be. There are no happy moments when this happens. Great reaction

Jessie Caldwell

Broke my heart watching you guys watch this movie. You started crying... then I started crying... and I saw this when it first came out, so I knew what was going to happen.

Totally Whatever

You are right, it should be. Thanks for watching along with us.

Bill Elliott

Left a comment on You Tube! Great one and emotional, had only watched this in bits and pieces.

Nanette & Carolyn are shimmering, glimmering, gorgeous goddesses

Two recent thoughts I had about this movie, the first questions I would have asked is what arethe odds of it smacking us and the odds of this plan working, also I would have moved immediately to Nebraska since most of the Earth is water the odds say that's where it would smack us which means the coasts are screwed

Davida4

This was the first disaster movie I ever watched, as a kid, and I don't think others I've seen ever held up to it. It's very thoughtful, well done, and about more than spectacle. The title, of course, is about the deep impact that facing death has on each person. This is why each death, sacrifice, and failure feels so heavy and emotionally taxing! It always leaves me feeling a little unsettled though, which is I think what it's meant to do.

Totally Whatever

We didn't realize how deep this movie would go. It really hits hard.

Robert Durant

To me this movie is more important than the action spectacle that was Armageddon. Its the focus on the people, the stories, the drama, and the focus on the reality that the mission won't be completely successful. The reality of it is if something like this were to happen it probably would happen like it does in the movie with the comet or asteroid partially destroying the planet but life does go on for those that survive. I also love that in this movie we have characters that are believable in the roles they are supposed to be; you have competent leaders, journalists that are telling things how they are, astronauts that are doing astronaut stuff...not oil drillers playing astronauts.

Randolph Tirazona

Téa Leoni did an Excellent job! For me this is how she got Madam Secretary (2014) and did an Awesome job there!
