I predict:- this will be messy by the end

Bill W

Will there be edited versions?

I've heard about this but haven't really watched it before. I haven't laughed like that for a while! The only British Comedy I've seen is "The Brittas Empire" and "Red Dwarf" from the late 80s and early 90s so it was great to see something from the 70s.

Prof Moff

i wish i liked this show but i just don't. people who like it love dearly so i hope you do.

Phil Stubblefield

I've seen episodes of this in the past, and John Cleese is hilarious as always! Unfortunately, in the US, it appears to be available only on BritBox (either directly or via subscription via Amazon Video or Apple TV). If that's correct, then I'll have to take a pass at the moment. Enjoy, all!

👍❤️

If you thought these first 2 episodes were stressful, you haven't seen anything yet... 🤨

AdrianF

Brittas and Red Dwarf are both amazing. But I'm a biased Brit. The second season of this is much better than the first as well, IMO anyway, though both are great.

AdrianF

I don't know if you mentioned it and I missed it, but Basil and Polly were married at the time they wrote the show.

Phil Stubblefield

Wow, that would never have occurred to me! I've used the Internet Archive many times for static documents, but I didn't know it included videos as well. Thank you, Nanolyn! 😁

AdrianF

Pretty sure it's all on dailymotion as well. Was watching with a friend who didn't have access to it a few weeks ago.

Phil Stubblefield

Wow, I'm learning by leaps and bounds today! 👍🏼👍🏼

As a Brit who works in the holiday industry, I hope that my guests all have better experiences than they do in this show, and I sincerely hope my customer service is slightly better than Basil is able to provide......but, I can say with absolutely certainty....there are most definitely guests who are every bit as bad as some you'll get to meet over these 12 episodes.

That is Connie Booth, the American actor who was married to Cleese from 1968 to 1978. She was in the original "Monty Python's Flying Circus" in a number of different roles, and she also appeared in the Monty Python movies "And Now for Something Completely Different" and "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" as the Witch who insists she is not a witch.

I'm so glad you noticed the "Fawlty Towers" sign with the S starting to fall off in the first episode's title sequence and then it's missing in the second episode. Keep an eye on that sign! The exterior of the hotel was filmed at Wooburn Grange Country Club at Wooburn Green, Buckinghamshire. Unfortunately the building burned down in 1991. Yes the show was filmed in front of a live studio audience. In the first episode, "A Touch of Class" when the con man "Lord Melbury" (Michael Gwynn) comes in to ask about a room, Fawlty answers the phone and complains to Mr. O'Reilly about an unfinished garden wall. Of course we see O'Reilly in person in the next episode, "The Builders." Notice that panel covering the former doorway from the lobby to the dining room is rather poorly constructed and even the wallpaper seems to be scratched and has very obvious bubbles underneath it. This is one of my favorite series. I also recommend you watch some of the old Python Series. Another very good sitcom is "Absolutely Fabulous" which ran for 6 seasons between 1992 and 2012, with roughly 2 years between most of the seasons.

Byrd N. Hand

And, yes, the Major, Ms. Tibbs, and Ms. Gatsby are all residents at the hotel.

Totally Whatever

Okay, so it IS a live audience. We would have loved to watch it live.

Totally Whatever

Ha ha, you are right, there are most definitely customers like the ones we've seen so far!

YAAAAAAYYYYY :), my fave show, when I was a young Nicky we had it taped on VHS. Any time I was off school ill I would have it on with a little bed on the settee, I loved that time being looked after even when really bad, always makes me smile :)
