Had to give Ghost in the Shell one of my 3 votes. An excellent feature length anime. Too bad Akira isn't on the list

Tarjei

Picked Ghost in the Shell as well, and skipped my other two votes in order to give it a better shot. And agree: Akira would be great to get here. Got to see it on the big screen last year and that was an amazing rewatch.

Smooticus

I was lucky and saw Akira at Balboa Cinema in Newport Beach, CA back in '88 when it hit the US. I'd already liked anime before, but was obsessed with it fo rthe next 10-15 years after that.

First choice: " Contact" would likely provide the best reaction, the most views and it is a really good movie Second choice: "Primer" for being the most unique, from the concept, to one man who wrote, directed and stared in his own film, to a production cost of only $7000, to everything, except for one shot, done on the first take and dubbed later, to a shooting ratio of 2:1. A truly thought-provoking film that demands active intellectual engagement.

Wade Wallenstein

I'm also in agreement. Didn't see either of these until the 2000s but have watched them several times since.

Jay Davis

I loved Children of Men but I can't not vote for Ghost in the Shell.

Mark M

I chose Children of Men as my 'comedy gem':)

MotoDork

This is going to be an easy W for Contact. And itโ€™s a great film adapted from a story by Carl Sagan (one of my heroes).

AdrianF

Primer is so good, but I knew it never had a chance really. I am slightly surprised to see Contact so far ahead.

Terry In the UK

Adrian....an amazing selection. Really hard to choose between them as they all have a reason to vote for them...., a job well done. Although, I think it's fairly safe to say that Contact is gonna run away with it.

UCOOLJULES

About time we had Contact. Carl Sagan and his TV series 'Cosmos' whilst being too late to influence my science journey, were fantastic messaging for Gen X and future science geeks. This film in particular showed that you didn't have to be a Trekkie or Star Wars fan to let you dream of what might be out there.

Angel Pagan

Thanks to AdrianF for putting Contact. Along with Shawshank Redemption, Contact shares the top spot for my all-time favorite movies.

Aaron Warfield

Gattaca, 100%! One of the best SF movies made, and right up you two's alley

HeyHeyJK

Since Contact is so far in the lead I'll vote just once for "Children of Men". Widely regarded as one of the best sci-fi films of this century and amazingly well crafted with some of the best "oners" I've ever seen. It's hard to imagine how they pulled most of them off.

Mike the Ginger

So far, I have only seen Contact, so it automatically gets my vote. It is a pretty good flick.

Byrd N. Hand

And Maya Hawke exists because of it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

OrionM42

Would have loved to have seen "Predestination" (2014) on the list, staring Ethan Hawke and Sarah Snook. However, Gattaca (also starring Ethan Hawke) is a welcome choice.

Totally Whatever

Seems like we'll have to see most if not all of the movies on this list at some point!

MotoDork

I gave it a vote too. We must support 80s and 90s anime. Nausicaรค of the Valley of the Wind would be a great one to see here.
