Here are some sketches from a recent commission I did for a star-based birthday card:
These were all of my very smart ideas.
We settled on the third sketch as the ~final design~ and I made a few versions. Here they are:
I didn't like the colours here so much, but I did like the idea of the stars being slightly different colours to each other.
Sometimes you gotta just do a painting that is not as good as other paintings and I love to do that, to make paintings that are... less good. Then I'm really in my element. I'm in my true bliss then.
Then I did this huge felt tip version and I really liked the spacing here and also the scratchy sorta texture of the pens. Like your child made this for you, except it was me. I'm your child. Congratulations.
And finally there's this one, my personal favourite because I love the watercolour texture, the warm yellow/soft red colours, and the pencil stars. It kinda reminds me of Raymond Briggs' work a little bit somehow (fun fact: Raymond Briggs' went to the same art college as me), and I think it's the most effectively gentle and sweet looking one. It kinda makes me wanna do some more watercolour & pencil stuff, since that's not something I do often.
Look how happy those little stars are. So happy!
Anyway that's the post, I drew some stars.
Many thanks to both: 1. my patrons, and 2. outer space.
xoxo
