Yeah! Okay, so... as promised previously, when Save Scumming is to hit 5,000 followers I'mma buy a sword.

Why a sword, you ask?

Because... it's cool?

Anyway! Let's make this more fun! Below are some swords I thought were cool, with a decent range of types and sorts, and I figured it'd be cool to put it to a poll! So, here are a few options, all within a... somewhat reasonable-ish price range (one day, I'll get an Albion)!

Del Tin Italian Infantry Sword

Pros: One of the best sword makers around, relatively affordable, probably on the upper end of quality. Simple but pretty.

Cons: No sheath.

Atrim Cutlass

Pros: Usable at home for chopping branches and such. Sheath!

Cons: Not the prettiest. Interesting, but not historical design.

LK Chen Town Guard Sword

Pros: Small swords are the best. Very pretty. Plain but usable sheath.

Cons: Ugly finish on the hilt furnishings, but that can be sanded off. Need to buy from the manufacturer directly, which is a very minor con

LK Chen Disc Guard Cutting Jian

Pros: A non-European option. Blue! Cool talking piece.

Cons: Need to buy from the manufacturer directly, which is a very minor con

I like the third one because complicated hilt and the blade is basically a triangle

Joshua Gunty

That Jian is sick, big "You Dare!" energy.

Cyrus McEnnis

I'm gonna go with #1 on the basis that it'll give you a reason to learn leather working to make a birb decorated sheath!

you need the jian so you can threaten people for courting death

SWORD!! I like the Jian the best, I don't know why, I just do. Whatever one you get, try to make sure it is actual carbon steel and not mild steel or tin. It would be more expensive, but if it doesn't even hold an edge than it doesn't count as a sword IMO.

Wtcher

OK. Evidently swords are far more affordable than I'd thought. What's the import process like? Is it any different from buying any other random good?

RavensDagger

No difference from what I can tell. Not like swords are illegal in Canada. Not to purchase and display, in any case!

Wtcher

Oooo. I... I need a sword. I'll take it with me to the Winchester, when the zombie invasion invariably starts. No pint though, I don't need to get hurt more than I will. <.<

Matt

The cutlass looks pretty to me, but based on your pro/con lists, I'd go with the jian.

Charles Stitman

I love the Jian. But have you considered something like a trench knife?

Narf

I like the cutlass most out of those you've proposed. Interesting, useful blade, and functional hilt. Italian infantry sword has a cool shape but the design is a bit meh. Rather simplistic but not in a way that is still cool. Town guard sword is my second choice, interesing design. Jian is a weird one. The blade is the most boring thing ever both in shape and design, but the hilt of course looks great. Counter-proposal: a falcata. They're badass.

Squirrel

I’m inclined to the cutlass myself, because while all of these look cool, having one that you can actually use means you get to interact with it. I have a sword somewhere in my closet, and it only comes out for certain costumes, which has made it less fun to own.

Siyanax

That Jian has strong Chinese Sect Guard A energy

Narf

For the zombie apocalypse I'd probably prefer a spear with a crossguard behind the head. Better to keep them a bit further away than at sword's length. But maybe a sword as a sidearm... hmm. More important than the weapon though would probably be owning one of those anti-shark suits with the metal mesh.

Wtcher

Oh yeah! I've heard motorcyclist outfits are pretty rugged too. I assume the best defense is probably staying far away though, so something lightweight and yet bite-proof.

Tierhon

I thought you already got a sword? Wasn't the one in the images you posted earlier the Town Guard design?

RavensDagger

<.< >.> Second sword? Also, yeah, similar. Or rather, the same broad type of sword. A Sidesword, which is a sword from the late Renaissance with that kind of ornate hilt and usually a triangular-profile blade that's on the longer side. Basically, the coolest kind of sword!

Kenny's Chronicles and Bob's Books

While the Atrim Cutlass might not be the coolest sword in appearance, there is a certain something about a sword that is going to be in your hand, whacking at something, as opposed to living on the wall or at most on your hip, y'know?

Revenant

The Jian is the only one with an aesthetically attractive sheath to go with an aesthetically attractive sword.
