Fuzzy Skin (Patreon)
Content
I get a lot of questions about fuzzy skin, so here’s how I set things up and how you can use it.
In my files, I usually have the fuzzy skin settings dialed in, but I leave it disabled by default. That way, if you want to use it, you just toggle it on instead of building it from scratch. (In the past I think I have left some files with it on and caused some confusion so hopefully this clears it up and I'll work to ensure I leave it off going forward.)
How to enable fuzzy skin (painted areas only)
Go to Global → Others → Fuzzy Skin
Set it to:
None (Allow Paint)(Yes, “None” is confusing—it just means don’t apply globally, only where you paint it)
Painting the areas
Click the Fuzzy Skin paint tool (top menu icon)
Select the paint bucket
Set Smart Fill Angle:
Start with 2
Drop to 1 if it’s spreading too far
Click the surfaces you want textured
They should highlight (purple)
If your angle is too high, it’ll spill across the whole part.Too low, and it’ll only grab tiny patches.
Texture settings (what I use)
Fuzzy Skin Thickness: 0.1 mm
Fuzzy Skin Point Distance: 0.1 mm
This gives a light texture—not overly rough, just enough to break up the surface.
Important: Global vs Objects
You can apply this in:
Global (affects everything)
Objects (specific part only)
If something isn’t behaving how you expect:
Check both tabs
A common issue:
Disabled in Global
Still active in Objects
That’s usually why it seems like it’s “ignoring” your setting.
One last note
Fuzzy skin adds print time—sometimes significantly (30–60+ minutes depending on the part). If your print suddenly takes longer, this is probably why.
