Here’s a new form factor for the standard 12 oz can size: the Barrel Can Holder.

The basic function is the same as the original Cooler Can Holder, but this one has been restyled to resemble a whiskey barrel. It uses the same general setup, and all of the existing standard 12 oz lid designs should fit. For the example print, I used the Stealth Flipper Lid, but the other lid options will work as well.

If there’s interest in a lid made specifically for this barrel version, let me know what style you’d like to see.

The handle is also new for this version. It is similar in size and overall shape to the standard Cooler Can Holder handle, but I went with a twisted rope design to better match the barrel theme. The end pieces/shackles are separate, so they can be colored differently without much hassle.

That said, the interfaces are the same, so you do not have to use the rope handle if you do not want to. You can use the standard Cooler Can Holder handle and standard handle fasteners instead. Same thing with the plug/spout area — this version includes a simple straight cork-style plug, but the interface is the same size as the standard Cooler Can Holder spout, so the standard valve/spout should work there as well.

The handle fasteners included with this version are slightly different. They work the same basic way, but they have a taller head to better fit the look of this design.

For the plug, I placed it in the same general position as the standard Cooler Can Holder spout. I’ve seen barrel plugs placed on the end or closer to the middle, so if there are requests to move it, that’s doable too. I could also do a different valve-style version if anyone wants that.

A few print notes:

The rope handle does use supports. Because of the rope texture, the supported area can be a little rougher than I usually like. After removing the supports, I usually hit the lighter support-contact areas with a heat gun to bring the color back closer to the filament color. That helps quite a bit, and the remaining texture still fits the rope look pretty well.

For the main body, if you make the rivets/nails the same color as the barrel bands, the color changes are handled by layer height, so it should print relatively efficiently. In the example print, I used a different color for the rivets. That works great on dual-color or dual-nozzle setups, but on a single-nozzle printer it will add significant print time. If you want a faster print, matching the rivets to the bands should still look perfectly fine.

Overall, this one is mostly about the new look. Same basic cooler can holder concept, but with a whiskey barrel style. The existing add-on parts should still give you a lot of flexibility if you want to mix and match.

Let me know what you think, and let me know if there are any specific lid, handle, plug, or valve ideas you’d like to see for this version.

kevin scott

This one is awesome best one yet in my opinion

animuL67

You can install the regular handle if you prefer or yeah, if you want I can remove it completely and just not have the handle provisions at all.

kevin scott

That would be amazing even a POW or veteran support

Offshore 3D

No handle will be best, I found most people don’t want the handle to begin with, at least in my area they prefer no handle

Layered_Legion

Nice you made the barrel I asked about!! Ive been waiting for this one.... Came out great!

BC 3D

a little charm/keyring attachment plug that fits into the existing handle holes would be awesome and super versatile. Maybe even one that can hold a straw as well

Cheryl Coleman

Fantastic job, any way to make a lid that looks like the top of a Barrel?

Jules

Thank you , this is beautiful

Ana Moses

Begging for a big monster size of this bad boy!!! love it.

David Hodge

16oz can version would be awesome!

Jay dot El

That’s what I came to ask.

BobaFett

which lid is this one??

animuL67

I generally try to save the .3MF with the filaments that I used, in this case there are a few extras but all are Bambu PLA. For the main body its Matte Dark Chocolate, Matte Charcoal, Basic Dark Gray. The plug is Matte Desert Tan. The rope handle is Matte Charcoal and Basic Dark Gray. The Handle fasteners are Bronze and the lid is Bronze and Matte Charcoal.

animuL67

Its the Stealth Flipper Lid

animuL67

Whaich big Monster? The 16oz or the bigger one with the screw on lid?

kevin scott

Can anyone tell me how to separate these into parts so I can print them separately

Kari

Hello. The file seems to come over with a visual binding box that overlays the boundaries of the plate. When I go to preview there is nothing on the plate. Can you please advise what I need to do?

kevin scott

I have the same issue and when you size it to the plate they are way too small. I dont know how to separate them to their own files so they can be printed separately so I guess we in the same boat

Dwain Gregory

The barrel is awesome but I agree, I would like to see a version with no handle with the flip top lid if possible.

Leesa

Any Chance this can be done in the 375ml for us Aussies @animuL67

Leesa

Can you make this in the 375ml? Please

Offshore 3D

Did you get a chance to do a non handle version of this?

Liz

I second this, being an Aussie member always having to wait until the 375ml versions of all your designs come out before they are any use to us,Just an FYI. Love everything you do just impatient and hate having to wait. Lol.

Offshore 3D

Are you doing the no handle design?
