Okay so the manga being promotional material for the anime was common knowledge at the time, I'm not sure what "source" anyone needs. It skips a lot of the first arc and basically tells you to watch the anime. The second arc is completely skipped. Maybe a lot of people here weren't around when Super came out? Toyotaro is a DB fanfiction writer who wrote a version of Dragon Ball AF. https://dragonball.fandom.com/wiki/Toyotarou#References 9:25: I’m not sure what you’re trying to say here, I never claimed Toriyama was not involved with the manga? Also unlike what some say Toyotaro was not picked by Toriyama to be his successor Question: How were you chosen as Akira Toriyama's successor? Toyotaro: I went to Shueisha and told them I wanted to draw Dragon Ball Super. They gave me the opportunity to work on the series related to the video game, and after about three months, they asked me to draw two pages of Dragon Ball Super. That’s how it all started, and I was really happy. https://www.animeclick.it/news/64770-napoli-comicon-2017-reportage-dellincontro-con-toyotaro As for the manga’s popularity, obviously you can’t “prove” it one way or another, but I’ve been around all these circles and very few people have read the DBS manga compared to the people who watched the anime. I don’t know why this would be surprising, most people haven’t read the DBZ manga either lol. And yes this is about the Western fans. *in case it wasn't clear I am defending the Super anime*

"Common Knowledge" meaning you heard it somewhere and don't remember

animaechan

You said two things. Last time you said "majority of fans don't even know that the manga exists" and today you claim "it was common knowledge that the manga is promotional material". So which is it? You seem to be making up "points" in the argument and responding only to that. The whole beginning point of this discussion was because some of us felt that the manga conveyed the Goku Black arc better and made more sense. Then you were the one that said "the majority of people haven't read the manga or even know it exists". That's when more people starting adding their thoughts, also because you keep calling Toyotaro a "fanfic writer". Even if that is how he started writing, Super (regardless of who chose him, no one said it was Toriyama) is written by him and Toriyama TOGETHER. We read a whole interview explaining how that process works. "I’ve been around all these circles" - making conclusions on this... I cannot politely tell you how stupid that is and you are definitely not worth talking to more about this 🤣🤣

Charlie Odinoco

I wholeheartedly reccomend you follow Goku's example and go outside to tend a garden

animaechan

To conclude: we are talking about opinions here. You have the opinion that Goku Black arc is better. Myself and many others feel the manga makes more sense. Why are you going to such lengths to diminish the manga and Toyotarou's work just because we have a different opinion? Just say you like the anime more and leave it at that. Don't make up stupid sounding claims like "no one even knows the Super manga exists". You sound like a butthurt troll.

Espada0

Where do you get ur facts from ? Did you do a survey or have you found one? Claiming that most people have not read DB/DBZ Manga, that is a bold statement.

RecoomeElbow

They don't contradict each other, those who heard about it knew it was intended as promotional material. I really think you're overestimating the amount of exposure the average viewer has to these things. Most people watch a show and move on. They're not gonna read a manga that only came afterward and shows them what they've already seen. You haven't read the manga yourself so I'm not sure why you're so confident you'll like it more I thought you needed to see this perspective since half of your chat shits on the anime and glazes the manga Anyway sorry if I came across as a dick and your DBZ reactions were GOATED

Mecha Saiyan

I don't know what in the world that other dude was talking about, but simply put, Toriyama gave an outline of what he wanted to both Toyotaro and Toei, and they both filled in the gaps independently of each other. There was a point where the manga was far ahead of the anime, then the anime caught up and ended way before the manga did, then the manga eventually caught up and continued past the end of the super anime. The only thing that you said, that I could think of, that could have caused someone to go off, was when you said the anime messed up so bad that the manga "had to fix it", since they were both being worked on entirely independent of each other. But that's about all.

Loved seeing Farmer Goku his job side quests are great. Goku and Goten's relationship is so cute. Krillin and Goku episode was great gave some shine to Krillin made it feel like og dragonball again. Yeah apparently the other universes didn't hear that Zeno was going erase universes anyway and Goku has given them a chance now. I guess they have to take there angst out on someone since they won't to Zeno. Love the Sparing discussion and reaction as Kayla❤️

Toyotaro himself called it a "comicalization" of the anime From the August 2015 issue of V-Jump "Getting to see a new DB anime series every week makes me too happy! With this comicalization, I want to make my own small contribution to the excitement, so everyone please check out the manga, too!" https://www.kanzenshuu.com/manga/super/ (don't scroll too far down)

الوليد Waleed

1st thing, the link you shared contain not only spoilers for Kayla, but spoilers for anime only fans, so please delete it. 2nd thing, I couldn't find what you said in that link, and even if that true so what? and I am not surprised that you shared a Kanzenshuu link, because it filled with people who downplay Toyotaro like you you said he is fanfic mangaka, ok he is then what? can't he write officially after that? and by your logic almost every manga was a fanfic before when they were young, I bet most shonen mangakas did a fanfic about DB characters, so how about we start calling them fanfic mangakas everytime we talk about them. and more importantly I can't see what the point you are trying to get with this, ok there some people who like the anime and there who like the manga and there who hate both, so what do you want to do? do you want them to stop enjoying it? SPOILERS MANGA ONLY ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- and now they announced the new anime which gonna be an arc only in the comicalization manga which Toyotaro the "fanfic" mangaka work mostly on it, why are they making an anime of a comical arc? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ that why I see your argument don't have a purpose that benefit the reactions, other than downplaying Toyotaro and the manga

MingoGames

I insist, the relationship between Toriyama and Toyotaro was closer and more direct that the Toriyama-Toei's., it is well documented. He supervised EVERY chapter of the manga, his involvement was way bigger. The only documented closer involvement of Toriyama with Toei was related to the movies production, but there is nothing about the anime series.

Mecha Saiyan

That is true, I'm not arguing that part, I just wanted to clarify that the manga didn't use the anime as source material and vice-versa. I follow a very knowledgeable DB historian and he goes into every little minute detail about anything Dragon Ball lol.

Trunkzsama

Dude, I don't think there's any need for you to keep saying these things to Kayla. Let her finish all of Dragon Ball first, and then she'll have her own perspective and opinion on things.

Mecha Saiyan

Every time you said "Lavender" in the second video, my cat (Lavender) kept looking around like "who the hell keeps calling me?"
