Final thoughts/reviews and questions welcome via DM (here or on Discord). Depending on what though, consider that there is a whole other season left that I have never seen! If it's something that can wait, it might be best to talk at a later point (no hints of what is to come🙏)
SUMMARY of all my rambles at the end:
I would score the first season overall an 8 out of 10. It's definitely a memorable show as a whole. The world building itself has been very interesting and I am hooked - I can't wait for more 👀
Sadly, Lelouch fell flat to me as a character. He was introduced as someone who had little interest in doing anything that would have influenced the main story/world, until he was handed magical powers. The concept of Geass itself is interesting, but the fact that Lelouch has access to an ability most of his key opponents in this season don't understand or can't counter makes some of his victories feel less satisfying.
It's not exactly "playing chess" when you have access to a piece your opponent doesn't even know exists 😅 That's fine for the story (at least, for Season 1), but I was lead to believe Lelouch is this master strategist. To put it in real world terms: "It's not playing chess if one of the players is computer assisted". I guess I was expecting to be more impressed, but it was nothing like the battle of wits between Light and L (for example).
Despite having this power, Lelouch couldn't even control it. Despite seeing what happened to Mao, he didn't even make any contingency plans in case something went wrong. And it did go wrong, clearly.
He is blind, conceited and cowardly. In retrospect, I can't even stay mad, because he is like a broken child who was handed a machine gun. The worst part is that whenever he showed an ounce of sincere thought, C.C. would say something like "there's no going back now" and he would fall back in line like he was a 6 y.o. Mao.
Oh, only until the very end though, after the worst has happened as a result of Lelouch losing control, the she changes her tune saying "are you sure you want to do this? You can still turn back?" 🤣
If I were to make a top 10 list of villains and/or antagonists (call them whatever word you are most comfortable with), Blackbeard would be on that list, Eren would be on that list, Light would be on that list, Dio would be on that list and a few others (Frieza, Cell!). Lelouch would not be.
Despite this drawback of the show (obviously I mean this from my own perspective, not objectively) there are many characters that piqued my interest (some of them mainly because of their dynamic with another character or characters, and some because they were part of interesting twists in the plot).
Suzaku
Euphemia
Marianne (despite her little screen time got me curious at the end)
Cornelia and Schneizel surprised me a few times (acting different to what I'd expected)
Milly and Lloyd, and even Nina 🙃
I'm not sure where things could go from here, but I do look forward to finding out!
