so, I totally get why you have a problem with Ilya's behaviour. he definitely acts like a fuckboy. which is probably why I fell for him so quickly when I was reading the book lol but you are also right in suspecting that Eastern Europe (not just Russia) works a bit differently when queer relationships are concerned. I am Eastern European and a (recently out) queer friend of mine was just told by her lesbian best friend that she shouldn't hold hands with her partner in public because they might become the target of a hate crime. this is today. now go back 10 years and you can imagine what would happen to Ilya in Russia. I don't remember this from the book, but I get the impression that, despite everything, he cares about his father and is worried about his health, so he doesn't even consider not returning to Russia for the time being. which, in turn, means he needs to make some hard decisions. why is he making those without Shane, I cannot tell you. maybe for the drama? maybe because Eastern European men suck at communicating? in any case, we are both here for the rest of the story ^^

I don't think they wanted to suggest that the two hadn't met at all between February 2011 and spring 2013, and that their only contact had been via sexting. In spring 2012, for example, Ilya sends an address for a meeting. Presumably, this was just to show that they still hadn't gone all the way. Perhaps it was because they didn't have enough time, or maybe Shane was nervous? This deviates from the books, where the meeting 'in two weeks' in February 2011 is not cancelled, and they simply meet up regularly after games. I guess they didn't want to move straight on to the next sex scene in the series.

From what I am hearing from Russian audiences and people who speak Russian. They said Connor is doing an amazing job with his accent. They also said that his Russian is really good. And that if they didn’t know better they would think that he could be a native. They said he speaks it very naturally.

Ilya is definitely doing it for the plot lol but yes as much as I don’t like him acting that way towards Shane, it’s good for the angst and for the build up of their relationship ❤️‍🔥
