okay having finally watched it: yayyy i'm so happy you guys had fun with this one, i feel like a lot of people take this movie a tad too seriously and thus don't like it but it's just campy slasher fun in my opinion! i'm BEYOND excited about what they will do with the sequel, there is a loooot of material in that second book for them to use. re: the changes made from book to movie. there are so many changes honestly, it would be hard to list them all, but I'll try and cover some: (BOOK SPOILERS BELOW if you wanna read it for yourself) - cole and rust, in the book, aren't revealed to have had a thing until the kiss at the end, so it's even more of a surprise there. they do have some moments throughout the book and i dearly love their scenes, but the hints at them were definitely played up for the movie. quinn and cole making out is a movie exclusive, quinn is definitely crushing on cole throughout the book but it doesn't go beyond them going to the party together and dancing. - the movie kind of softens the book's statements. MAGA is more directly referenced than hinted at, there is literally a flyer for a town meeting with MAGA as a slogan that the sheriff gives the dad early on in the book. the sheriff has a much bigger hand in the organisation of the killings in the book, too. - the whole "generations of killings" thing is an invention for the movie. in the book it's very much MAGA-type radicalised adults deciding to pick off the rotten youths and simply choosing the town mascot of frendo the clown to hide their identities, rather than referring to a "tradition" of killings. in the movie they go for clown shoes for the gag, but in the book they're all wearing combat boots for mobility, and using that random assortment of weapons to minimise ballistic evidence against them. - the book is much more explicit about the deaths inflicted on not just the main friend group, but the whole party of teenagers. the clowns burn down the barn while the kids are hiding in it and shoot those that try to flee the fire. it's crazy, honestly, but i love it because it makes it more obvious that the adults have a problem with the teenagers as a whole, not just this one friend group. the adults are much more vile in the book in my opinion. - in the book funnily enough there's a reason tucker's parents aren't home: his mom is frequently absent, but also a part of the whole cult and so lets him get killed off. - the biggest change the movie made is to significantly lessen the friend groups' roles overall: they do in fact burn down the (no longer active) factory in the book. it's implied that cole essentially tried to kill himself by doing it. they also cause a truck pile-up during the parade where a lot more could have gone seriously wrong, and they don't get arrested though the sheriff still singles them out. matt and ronnie had a much bigger role in the plot, because they were actually in on the plan, as radicalised teens that help the adults kill the others. this plot twist isn't revealed until the sheriff arrests cole and matt and ronnie take a knocked out quinn to plant her with the other dead kids. quinn ends up killing them at the tillerson's house (ronnie gets her head cut in half sorta, and matt is squished between two cars). - janet isn't white in the books but asian, and is actually the reason everyone realises that there is more than one clown. so the mean blonde stereotype is entirely for the movie, though book!janet is definitely still a mean girl but instead dies trying to warn everyone of the bigger danger. a change i'm not happy about, i will admit. - the car crashing into the factory was originally rust, not quinn's dad. they increased the dad's role a bit for the movie. in the book he's already at the factory being held captive and forced to treat the hurt adults. - rust is more present throughout the book overall. he has a whole bag of guns and arms quinn during the party massacre so she can shoot the clowns alongside him, he blows up a silo (not the shed) to help the others escape, and actually gets significantly burned up by the explosion. this is another one of the bits I wish they'd included, because he ends up with a lot of scars, including some very visible ones on his face and they're definitely a part of his character (cole even calls him harvey (aka two-face) in the second book). i'm someone who can typically enjoy books and their adaptations as separate pieces of media, so i really love both book series and movie, though they are for sure different products with different goals. i love the movie's campy silly vibe, and i deeply appreciate the books' narrative of right-wing radicalised adults blaming it all on the younger generation that is unlearning conservatism while the adults are falling deeper into it. i'm VERY curious about how they will use the second book's plots for sure :D hopefully it'll be on our screens next year 🥰thanks yall for a lovely reaction, for sure made my day!

Aww we appreciate you Atlas for the book and movie comparisons! 💖 Based from what you mentioned, it seems like the book has a more serious tone compared to the movie. I think I mentioned in our reaction that they were giving MAGA lol especially that speech Cole’s dad gave during the Foundation day lol I wonder why they steered away from the right-wing MAGA villains… it feels like they toned down the book so it won’t offend “those” audiences. Well, it’s alright. I just think it’ll be better if they made the movie more political but I also understand why they had to tone it down. Can’t wait for the sequel 🥰
