Kept you waiting, huh?

It's finally time to break down the guns of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and much like your average Hideo Kojima cutscene it's practically FEATURE LENGTH.

Don't forget, as an Extended Episode patron you get an extra long video (almost 80 minutes' worth!) with a bunch of extra content, a week earlier than the main feed, and it's ad-free.

Grab your eyepatches and stock up on snake meat, as Jonathan Ferguson, the Keeper of Firearms & Artillery at the Royal Armouries Museum in the UK, joins us to break down the guns of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, including the MK.22 Hush Puppy, The Patriot (complete with infinity symbol magazine), and The End’s customised Mosin Nagant.

Snake Eater is indeed the best James Bond theme of all time.

Such a great episode! Please consider showing Johnathan the 1st and 2nd games. There's a load of great weapons made iconic from it (Mk45, PSG-1, AK-74u, Stinger, etc.)

I share Jonathan's general opinion of the game/series at the end; I understand the appeal, and the series deserves its place in the echelon of iconic games, but the weirder aspects just bounce me off them whenever I give it a shot. My experience with Hideo Kojima in general, I suppose.

Cosidering they have released the opening cinematic for Delta and it swapped the bombers for C-47s that they didn’t bother to retract the landing gear on. I would be shocked if they actually improved any of the inaccuracies.

dude, paywalling the 1911 scene? Dave, don't hurt the youtube subscribers. when delta comes out, check all the other guns. been playing mgs3 religiously for foxhoud before delta.

I love how this is a nearly 80 minute long episode and it still didn’t cover everything. You didn’t show the SVD you didn’t show the AK. You didn’t show the Stoner 63. You didn’t show the skorpion. You didn’t show the codec call with the 1911 and naked snake being “aroused” by how customized it is (there is no more appropriate word to describe that) you didn’t show the single action army with the shoulder stock that ocelot just clips onto it. If you’re saving all of that for Delta, I’m disappointed.

I believe I know how the tranquilizer gun works, we’ll start with the easy gun because it’s easier to explain. Using the micro piston system allows for you to effectively fire a compressed sphere of anesthetic similar to a pepper ball or paintball. (I don’t know how they make it but, that’s the easiest explanation) regarding the converted model 39, the thing that’s interesting is that you can actually see the model for the dart game and it tells me that it also uses an internal piston. Only the piston is a component that is fired out of the barrel and likely has flechettes on the end coated with some sort of tranquilizer. This has been an attempt to hand wave the tranquilizer gun.

I don’t know where they found the documentation, but it is important to note, the PSS itself appeared in both metal gear solid 2 and metal solid 4. Though it was only usable in 4.

Delta is a mathematical symbol for variance or change. So I assume calling the remake "delta" is like "MGS3...but changed"

Catching up on my EXP vids and noticed no one commented on this. The weapon Johnathan cannot remember the name of when first seeing the Patriot might be the M231 Port Firing Weapon, a modified M16 with a 15 inch barrel and a firerate of ~1200rpm. It was originally intended for firing through the ports of the M3 Bradley IFV, though since most of the aforementioned ports have been removed, it remains as a self defense weapon for the crew.
