It is said that the Mourning Bell was created in a time when a small cult lived high in the mountains. Its followers believed that sound, if shaped and strengthened properly, could become more powerful than steel. For years, their priests carved runes of resonance into the bell, each one meant to amplify its tone. In time, they discovered that the markings were more than symbols. A single strike could knock a man from his feet, shatter a shield, or crack stone.

When the cult was finally declared a threat, its temple was attacked. Most of its followers were killed, but the Mourning Bell remained. No one wanted to move it. Those who tried later claimed they could still hear its low hum even when no one had touched it.

Years later, a group of warriors was sent into the ruins with a simple task: destroy the relic once and for all. Among them was the man now known only as the Bellkeeper.

They reached the inner chamber and found the bell exactly where the cult had left it. The Bellkeeper stepped forward with his hammer raised. One strike should have been enough.

He never made it.

As he approached, the runes across the bell began to tremble. The Mourning Bell gave a low, quiet tone, though no one had struck it. The Bellkeeper stood motionless, ignoring the voices of his companions behind him.

When one of them tried to pull him away, the Bellkeeper turned and attacked.

The others fled.

He stayed.

No one knows what he heard in the Mourning Bell that day. All that is known is that the man who entered the temple to destroy it never returned.

Since then, travelers have spoken of a massive warrior wandering the ruins with a bell in one hand and a heavy hammer in the other. He allows no one to come near the relic.

In time, his true name was forgotten.

Only the Bellkeeper remained.
