Dark Maiden Route - Night III Complete (Patreon)

As I alluded to on Tumblr, this went through a lot of rewrites. Sorry for the delay and I hope you enjoy. Despite the headaches of rewriting the passages, I did enjoy this scene a lot and I think it does a good job of pushing the MC into a sexual relationship that she enjoys but is also profoundly conflicted about. The guys aren't going to make this any easier for her, as now that they've had her, they'll expect her to satiate them whenever and wherever they please.

The intimacy is largely linear, though with some tailoring depending on your MC. Night IV will address how your MC reckons with the events of Night III and will solidify your dynamics with all three men.

I'm keeping this post brief as there is a big storm brewing outside and it sounds like the type that will knock a few power lines down. Likewise, I haven't done a few quality of life coding things on the update, such as coding the known Wyransith to toggle to English. I'll get that set up later tonight (assuming I have power), but I didn't want to sit on the release any longer. I will try to get the Wyransith translations out early tomorrow morning. I still have to go through and make a few corrections. I did update the credits, if you don't see yourself there just let me know! I won't be giving an ETA on the next update, I'm just going to write and resume my custom of posting snippets on Tumblr as I work. I find I work much faster when I haven't put a deadline on myself.

A reminder that DMR isn't a romantic storyline. There will be romance, but it will come after a fair bit of brutish, self-serving behavior on the part of the men. If that isn't your jam, please steer clear.

Such a terribly confusing time for the MC. I'm going to have to read again later to see about translating some of the things, as I don't currently have the power to focus enough, and it def puts you in the MC's shoes to just lose half of everything going on in DMR. Similar to some others, I would be interested in seeing the list! Hopefully it's a pleasant storm, as well, and not something destructive.

Just read the update and gosh, I don't know how you can tread the line between sexual tension and tragedy so easily—my heart was breaking for MC. It was just a continual undercurrent of heartache, as she disassociated with what was happening, while trying to justify it. Her misery was both delicious and melancholic, "not a romance" indeed, and my MC will not have fun on Night 4, but gosh do I want more. How she got into this felt so natural, and I'm saying this with a 100% Devotion trait, asdkakjsdjk. I really love when dark romances explore these kinds of situations, and it'll make the eventual romance sweeter once it hits. Stay safe! And fair for the ETA on the next update, but is it okay to ask if it's going to be a FMR or Classic update? I think I'll need something "fluffier" after this one 😂. Also! I'm def picking up on Wyransith, seeing how quickly I was able to make sense of a few words without checking my dictionary and am even deciphering phrases easily.

The way this update made me want to pick up smoking and stand forlornly in a doorway. You did such an amazing job writing mc’s conflicting feelings. I loved how you brought up the early scene with the boy who saw og mc’s scars and when you said part of her felt relief I was screaming. I think you ended this night perfectly and *spoilers* “You pray, too, that their tenderness and affection will not fade with the rising of the moon” Is such a beautiful and perfect way to sum up everything she felt in this night.

Thankyou for the update and stay safe, Mortish. 💜 It felt very natural MC’s push and pull towards Val and while I haven’t had the chance to translate the text just yet—I think I get the gist of what both boys were feeling once they got a taste. Also giggled at the fact that both Serax and MC are so openly jealous. MC not yet knowing she’s that girl from her dreams that got so devastatingly rejected–! 😭 Like she thinks it’s just empathy for another girl, but I personally think shes actually healing a past trauma she doesn’t know she had by lying with Val and Serax. Even if she feels conflicted doing so similar to the OG NSFW HereticMC. She’s in a way showing the younger her what it’s like to be accepted/wanted but also she’s so valid for having fear that the boys will treat her differently the next day— 😭 Also I knew Val and Serax are canonically pretty big compared to humans but—the description of the absolute UNIT that Val is???? The size difference??? 👁️🫦👁️ I was playing average height and he was massive lying over MC. I will also never, ever, ever have anything other than thankyou 🙇‍♀️ to say for being passed around between the boys. I adore how you write sex scenes. I also love that Serax loves cockwarming. Okay, I have finished the playthrough, so, as always, a collection of assorted thoughts for the prev+this update: - I loved that you kept the story of the guy who liked the MC. Tho, like the older MC I was out there screaming at the baby one to TURN BACK ASAP. Also laughed hard at MC berating past herself for skipping the lessons 😂 That was totally me scolding me for ditching Italian lessons back at uni when I suddenly had to interpret for a bunch of Italians. - Question about Kerax: is he voluntarily mute or mute due to the circumstances of his life\birth? Also I continue to stare longingly into the distance at the thought of that Kerax-only AU route 😌 - Just like Sunday has said, I am very amused by the fact that Val has dub-conned not one, but TWO people. I also want to slap him with a slipper, but that, tbh, might have to do more with the next point? Now the only bone I had to pick: - Okay, this one I leave to your writer discretion, and I want you to know that I am not aiming to ummm... be mean? and that I write it knowing that I am somewhat an outlier among the audience. But, tbh, the moment when MC was feeling jealous of Serax Sparta kicked me out of the immersion; as in, hard enough that I didn't get back into it till the very end of the scene. Because, since MC is sort of Serax's body mate, shouldn't she find him equally hot and be sort of torn between who she wants to be with in this scenario? Like either be equally jealous of Val or very confused because why is it pissing her off that the two of them are getting it on? To me the moment she started to describe how Serax is too this and too that (tho I do suppose it's out of jealousy, but it just felt in the moment like he is less attractive to her, so How Dare He Exist?), was what broke the immersion. Because to me Serax is more my type than Val appearance-wise: I love me a sensual-looking man, and she goes on talking down the things I personally LIKE in my partners, regardless of gender. If this was a 3rd person narrative, I would have had zero problem with it, since it'd be like 'yeah, CHARNAME is more into Val (whom she has described as some sort of a perfect specimen). Eh, different strokes for different folks', but since we are in the 2nd person narrative, the game tells me *you feel this way*, and I immediately go 'excuse moi, but I don't?' I remember that you've mentioned that DMR will be more linear, so I assume it's one of this infixable linearities but maybe smth to keep in mind for Classic? (Sorry it got rambly 😅) - The last passage tho... Made me feel very soft, no notes, I loved it (idk how you implied it's not romantic, because to me it IS!!!) - Also: poor MC's nethers 😭Good luck sitting tommorow, princess 😓🤭

A slowpoke as ever, but I wanted to take the time to play through and translate what I could before commenting. I waited until Night III was finished before playing, so I had a bit more to catch up on. I have to compliment you on the dynamics between female characters that we've been able to glimpse so far: the apparent bond between Anja and Shaela, the enmity between Naditha and Anja, the bullying that MC faces from Naditha and the relationship between Anja and MC. It's also a bit sweet that Nythara (or whoever wants MC to see these memories) wants her to know how beautiful her original self would've been if she hadn't been burned. All of these moments speak of long and interesting histories. And it's nice to see these scenes instead of having them recounted. Makes me wonder, though: will DMR MC ever get the opportunity to interact with another women in any meaningful way or are we only getting that in flashbacks? I also like that the Elodari faith seems less a unified monolith, with different sects and factions devoted to different tenets of the faith which may disagree and war with one another. Wyransith has the same subject order as Latin, which I've been dabbling in. It's been helpful in learning both, so thanks for that! 😊 "Your uncertainty fuels his predatory instincts." Who's uncertain? I would describe it more as "reluctance," lol. It was funny to have this notification pop up in the clothes scene because my first thought was "MC is uncertain about being able to dress herself?" Also funny because Serax's "predatory instincts" manifest here as being a brat and childishly throwing the clothes at her head. 😆 I liked that the latest dream sequence is more surreal and nightmarish than usual, with hints of an outside agent being at work. I like that MC's mind took measures to protect itself from fully seeing the boy's face or hearing his name. Seeing this incident, feeling the devastating disappointment and heartbreak of it, and beginning to suspect that the dream girl might just be her is a good way to lead into her first sexual encounter. I was relieved that the sex wasn't as dubcon-ny as I initially supposed it might be: I pondered if the guys were going to get MC blood drunk and initiate when she was too intoxicated to really resist. But then the sneak peek had them speaking of a blizzard and you made that post on tumblr about trying for consent as much as the situation would allow, so I thought maybe the increased cold would prompt the MC to seek warmth and then one thing would lead to another. In any case, the sex scene is well written (and occasionally stomach churning), but I feel it's too linear and limiting. As soon as Valdricht takes her by the wrist, it feels like MC is swept completely out of my hands and put on a rail, which is not ideal in an interactive medium. It feels like we're not allowed to be Veiled/Wild in this scene; I know MC is having a massive moment of weakness after basically reliving a traumatic moment and I know there is tailoring going on under the hood. Perhaps it's also done to contribute to both the MC and player feeling helpless in the face of a forced/inevitable destiny. But I think this scene could've provided opportunities to expand and explore the dynamic she's forging with the guys without derailing the sex that needs to happen. Like when my MC attempts to grab a pelt which Valdricht didn't allow and she meekly stops. It's like she's possessed by the spirit of Bound/Tamed MC here. MC's first experience with sexual intimacy is a big deal and so I feel that the previous dynamic choices (sometimes made in much more mundane circumstances) shouldn't be the end-all, be-all of how MC behaves here. Perhaps we can have a choice to have MC's displeasure/distress at being denied this harmless and momentary comfort clear on her face or with a sound of protest opposite to a choice to immediately acquiesce -- to which Valdricht might reply with a stony glare or uncaring grin before he keeps going. It wouldn't alter the trajectory or outcome of the scene, but it might allow for some slight player impact and dynamic shift so that this scene doesn't make me feel like I'm reading a scene with a pre-set MC in a static novel. And after all of that casual dehumanization, blatant disregard, and unnecessary sadism, the guys suddenly switching to gentle touches and kisses like MC is something precious that they care about made my skin crawl. MC won't know any better because she's too ignorant about sex to know that it didn't have to be this way and the men just didn't care enough about her to bother to do otherwise, but the horror and alienation of it all is certainly felt by me. (Which is not an indictment -- an intentionally dark story is working as intended). Anyway, I hope that the storm wasn't problematic and that you're all safe. 🫶🏻

Ahhh, you nailed the part that made me feel off about the sex scene but I couldn't for the life of me figure out what it was! I think to me it felt like the sex scene was written with a more...happily submissive MC in mind? I am playing her as much of a hissy uncooperative cat as Mortish would allow, so it did throw me off, adding to the emotional disconnect I got pre-scene 🤔 I think the fact that as far as I can see only you and I commented about feeling disconnect with a scene sums up the topic of many discussions I have seen on Hosted Games forum and Reddit: when the author inserts thoughts into MC's mind it works out beautifully if the opinions coincide and causes dissonance when they don't 😅 Funny thing is that I know almost dead certain that you and I are playing different versions of the MC, too 🤭

Yes DMR is supposed to be a linear story, much less customizable than Classic but your criticism is valid and I'll consider how to adjust the scene to accommodate players who don't care for Valdricht as much.

One of the challenges with this one and the reason it required so many rewrites is that there's certain subject matter I can't write without getting booted off Patreon. The MC resisting and Valdricht ignoring her and just doing whatever he wanted regardless wasn't territory I was keen on delving into. Either she submits because of a mix of desire/comfort-seeking/intimidation or she resists and the guys back off, at least for the time being. I can definitely write that arc if you guys want and delay the sexual content a bit longer for the veiled mate/wild beauty, but I'm not comfortable writing the MC resisting and being pressured any more than she already was. I think the current degree of pressure/mental gymnastics to justify one's own consent is pretty relatable. DMR definitely isn't a route for bratty submissive lovers, it's meant to be either full submission or reluctant submission, but there isn't going to be any space to be catty with them in this route, that'll be a more Classic dynamic and FMR to an extent, although the latter is more submissive or petulant. These just aren't the same guys as in the other routes, as you'll learn little by little. There are some timeline differences that make them a lot less nice, and even their seemingly sweet behavior at the end of the episode is just them playing a part with the female they are objectifying and will continue to objectify for quite some time. Without giving too much away in for DMR, MC is basically a toy for them, at least for the first couple of weeks. All that said I definitely appreciate you guys' feedback and I will consider some alternative options this week. Going into this, my main goal was that this night did not branch into alternatives wherein the MC doesn't have sex with both partners as it creates too many variables to account for in Night IV, but I'm open to writing alternatives if readers don't mind the next chapter taking a bit longer. There were definitely points where I knew I could do alternative options for a less gung ho MC but opted not to for the sake of not overcomplicating DMR.

It's not that I don't care as much, but more like... Because I feel like he is hot; his lover just happens to be more like my type (physically, at least), but the game assumed otherwise. Which kind of felt like a spillover from FMR, because I didn't get that vibe during the threesome scene we had in the pre-rewrite version. If it were more like 'wow, a hot guy you feel inexplicable yearning for is getting it on with a hot guy whose presence makes you all tingly, and somehow you are bitter about it' without pointing at either of them, I think it wouldn't have felt like singling anyone out. But as I've said: leaving it up to your discretion. And thank you for being understanding because I was debating with myself for a long time whether I should say it or nah 😅

@Mortish - I think it'll be easy to not strike the right tone with these questions, so I'll put down the disclaimer that I don't want to be difficult or put you in a position of having to defend yourself; I actually am interested in these answers as both a player and someone who is generally interested in the creative process, so I hope they won't be a trial or a pain to answer: "The MC resisting and Valdricht ignoring her and just doing whatever he wanted regardless wasn't territory I was keen on delving into [...] I'm not comfortable writing the MC resisting and being pressured any more than she already was." Honestly yeah, the scene seems afraid to show us what would happen if MC defies or displeases him at all. Our male leads are bad men with dark histories who are obviously capable of committing heinous action, but heinous action wouldn't be pretty or comfortable or allowed on the platform. Rather than alter the men, it compensates by making the MC as passive as possible to avoid having to go there. Bound players found all of this natural because it was how they were planning to play anyway, but the absence of behavior appropriate to Veiled will be noticeable to Veiled players. If her spine and personality vanish every time she spreads her legs, I'm not sure there'll be much point in putting off the sex. "DMR definitely isn't a route for bratty submissive lovers, it's meant to be either full submission or reluctant submission, but there isn't going to be any space to be catty with them in this route..." This is a bit confusing because this was said previously: "If you play Wild Beauty/Veiled Mate her arc is a power struggle and will be full of inventive ways to assert herself while she gradually does come to have feelings for her barbarian overlords." And this: "That said, in DMR Serax and Valdricht are genuine assholes and totally merit some bitchiness and therefore I have no problem writing well-deserved sass." And his latest Dark Maiden dynamic summary reads, "Your resistance engages Valdricht rather than frustrates him. Every hesitation becomes a puzzle to solve, every moment of internal conflict proof of your authenticity. He doesn't want mindless compliance--he wants to earn your surrender piece by piece." So are we going to be able to manage resistance and assertiveness against him or aren't we? Is it going to be something we develop as the story progresses or is that no longer the plan and the best MC can manage is feeling conflicted/reluctant as she defaults to compliance? Is MC only gonna be able to sass them in a language they can't understand? Or does she want everything that Bound MC does, but she's a silly girl in denial about it? How will Val earn MC's surrender if she gives it to him from the start with no trouble? Will she only be allowed to resist/withdraw in non-sexual situations? I'm not really expecting to be a bratty submissive who intentionally riles up her dom to receive a punishment she knows she'll enjoy -- I was hoping for a woman who eventually realizes that she's been caged into a life where she's treated brutishly and without care and could maybe occasionally summon the temerity to at least try to do something about it instead of absorbing it all like the object they treat her as. The dynamic descriptions implied that this might become the case -- gradually and within reason, at least. All that said, I wasn't speaking of resistance that would lead to violence or coercion -- just having MC make a look/noise of displeasure but dropping the issue because it's not worth escalation, so Val wouldn't have to pressure/force her to continue having sex. Just clarifying that in case my original comment implied otherwise. While I personally would like to see where MC stands as far as what her captors will allow her to do, that probably wouldn't be comfortable for you or all other players. At times it seems like Veiled/Wild is the unfavorite child who is more inconvenient to the narrative you're working towards. Her want for agency seems more often framed as petulant and foolish whereas Bound's devoted compliance and submission is apparently set to cement her as the one to really bring the men to their knees. Which is understandable, because Bound seems to fit your personal preference while Veiled seems like more of a concession to Zealot players. Honestly, if you would rather drop Veiled/Wild and focus entirely on Bound/Tamed, I'd be disappointed but I wouldn't rail at you for making that choice if it would make development feel easier or better. It might be better to toss her out sooner rather than later if she's going to be an albatross. Gratified that my instincts on this bit were spot on! Poor MC just doesn't have the tools to recognize this, so pity and second-hand embarrassment are riding me strong when MC's lying there hoping their affection doesn't disappear in the morning. Baby girl, lemme hold your hand while I break this terrible news... 😓 Anyway, sorry for the wall of text and if it came off as impertinent at all. I would like the discussion, but I understand if it's too much of a hassle and would put you behind the schedule you want to maintain. Especially after all that trouble with the storm and flooding! 🙂

@scorpiuscircus - Yeah, see, my MC is not a hissy cat most of the time, only when she's given good reason to be. That's why I figured that under-the-hood trait tailoring was the reason for MC's behavior, because her dynamic with Valdricht is sitting at 50/50% when the sex scene rolls around and I figured she didn't have enough Veiled points to qualify for behavior that was a little more assertive. Exactly! A customizable MC is a rough balance because you have to make them a character with some defined characteristics to make them work well within the story and NPCs while also leaving enough room for players to do some character work of their own. It's obviously impossible to cater to hundreds of individuals and please everyone, but in this instance it really seems like one MC dynamic completely overshadowed the other. I actually am interested in the parallels between our MCs! I think it's fascinating how two people can pick the same options in a story with entirely different rationale and feelings behind it! 😊

I don't mind, it's good to have critical feedback to call attention to things I might be overlooking. The only remarks I'd take issue with is that VM/WB aren't a concession to zealot players nor unfavorite children. DMR isn't a proxy for the original storylines, it's its own thing that's supposed to be linear and chill to write, a respite from the winding paths and varied dynamic combinations of Classic route. I do understand the frustration with the first sex scene being too passive. I did trim a branch that would have better suited the Veiled Mate dynamic and another which would have been more Tamed Heart, so I'll likely add those back in prior to proceeding with the DMR Night 4. I do want all of you guys to be comfortable pointing out when you think the storylines are off-track or unbalanced. I also don't want DMR and FMR to become cumbersome, otherwise I'll end up back in the same position I was in with the original storyline. I do think your critiques are fair. They're missing some context from the broader narrative I am planning to tell in DMR, primarily with the Act I conflict being the DMR MC remembering her past and having to reconcile it with her submission to becoming a sexual servant, but at the same time I can see where I did a poor job of allowing both Veiled Mate and TM/WB MCs express their chosen dynamic in the initial sexual encounter and I'll ensure that I rectify that before proceeding with Night 4.

@ayesleigh, see now, my MC was 90% Veiled with Val when sex happened 😭 So the way it played out was a big surprise for me all around. My reasoning for MC's behaviour is that she is stubborn and distrustful and these are two strange men whose motivations she doesn't understand, therefore she will dig her heels when it is wise AND when it is unwise (hence me nicknaming her a hissy cat). E.g. a man asks you a question in a language you don't understand? Asking it in a nice voice? Well too bad for him, he gets no answers because nice voice ≠ nice intentions. Tbh I think the way I pick my mcs is somewhat affected by my culture because generally Slav women are tough (we have a classic poem about women in our country and it goes "oh she, who will stop a galloping horse [it's implied that the woman is not astride the horse here], oh she who is not afraid to enter a house on fire"), and while many are subservient to their man on paper, inside the home it is oftentimes the other way round. So I cannot RP just submitting, zero questions asked. There will be a whole Questionnaire involved 🧐🤭 I assume your MC is resisting because she is measured and cautious? 👀🤔

@Mortish tbh I don't mind the wait, but only if writing more versions is smth you personally want. Maybe for linear stuff like this adding some cycling choices inside the scene (so the reader can sort of... adjust the level of enthusiasm/submission/pick the reaction) can be a sort of a compromise? Just not a for a single word/sentence, but for a couple of sentences or smth like this. I have seen the authors in erotic IFs do that 🤔 this way you won't have to write an entirely new scene, and there is some choosable reactivity that doesn't have to affect the stats or the finale. Or maybe feature a bit tamer stuff for a reluctant MC? Handjobs(for everyone)/frottage, boobjob, hotdogging, etc? The MC is still debased, everyone is covered in all the fluids, but some resistance is there. This way you won't have to branch the narrative on whether she had sex or not as much? Maybe? (That's just me throwing stuff on the wall tho) Small sidenote: just like Ayesleigh, from the route description I assumed Wild/Veiled is either bratty or firmly and calmly resistant, based on the stats or maybe the guy and the situation 🤔 I feel like this might be the root of some misinterpretation here.

Completely understandable and same! My MC is not foolhardy enough to answer when she doesn't know what's being asked. I love it! 🏆 "I assume your MC is resisting because she is measured and cautious? 👀🤔" You got it (and yet she's also more daring than most apparently -- goes to show that someone's day-to-day attitude =/= their attitude in the bedroom)! Coupled with wanting knowledge of the men she's obsessed with and chafing at the injustice of receiving poor treatment for no reason (MC doesn't need a full 21st century knowledge of the in-and-outs of consent to at least subconsciously realize at some point this whole encounter is kinda messed up. It's common for even abuse victims who have been groomed into thinking their abuse is normal to still have bad feelings about what's happening to them). Along with my MC starting to suspect that she might be the subject of her dreams, she's also cognizant of the fact that she's being weak by consenting to sex here -- a conflicted urge to both submit and to (internally and outwardly) struggle seems natural to me even at this early stage where all realizations haven't hit yet. But we also haven't seen all of Shaelis's life yet, so we haven't seen the full scope of a disadvantaged life beating a lot of that youthful spunk and reckless forthrightness out of her before her death. Maybe our current MC not bothering to try is a result of that even if she doesn't remember it yet -- and she probably doesn't want to jeopardize getting the validation and comfort she's seeking after what she did remember...

I just wanted to thank you for the wonderful update and impressive writing, tbh I HAD to take a moment to digest Night III because it's so insidious and manipulative to the point I WAS agreeing with MC and deluding myself into believing this was 100% consensual. Like these guys have gone at it tearing down MC's walls and personal space in such a short and intense amount of time like you have everything there, power imbalance, guilt tripping (mc feeling like she owes them and maybe it wouldn't be so bad if she gave in a bit), isolation, etc Just... Wow. Hats off for pulling this off and making it smooth as butter, it felt so natural to end up like this... Oooof Edit. MC really did Not stand a chance against S/V joining efforts to set this entire encounter up (purposefully letting the fireplace die for example)
