Wyransith | Dark Maiden Night IV (Patreon)
Content
Here are the translations for Night IV of Dark Maiden.
I think I overdid it in this chapter, the translations took a long time to do and I'll probably be adding less Wyransith in subsequent updates. I'll focus more on emphasizing key words and phrases, rather than throwing a wall of dialogue out there. I do still enjoy the language barrier aspect a lot and will continue emphasizing that. Don't stress if you're not understanding the convos, frankly it's part of the immersion. Like your MC, you're supposed to feel confused and frustrated by your lack of comprehension.
I'll do my best to divide these up by scene so you can easily locate the string. You're welcome to let me know if I mistranslated something but I likely won't be doing any revisions or diving into grammar/vocab discussions as I'm deep in the Fated Mates route right now and I don't want to spend a day nitpicking my Dark Maiden draft. I was getting really obsessive about it last year, making spreadsheets and filling notebooks with random vocab I'll probably never use and it was an unproductive use of time (-_-;)
I hope you guys enjoyed the episode. I think you'll find the next update even more enjoyable, it has a lot of cool twists and turns. Ok, on with the translations.
Translations
[Valdricht confronts Serax after the biting incident]
"Grothvel skarvek." "Ungrateful beast."
"Thy ywen val thyn valshai gruneth. Na?" "You mistake her for your whores. Right?"
"Eri thy loskir." "I release you." This is our new phrase for releasing someone from a darksinger song, you'll see it a lot in future chapters.
"Zairvel'vir. Gath'vir." "Be silent. Get out."
"Gath'vir." "Get out."
[Valdricht uses Sila on the MC]
"Sila." Peace
"Dyrn thy sairys?" "Who are you?"
"Neizven makraeth. Dyrn thy sairys?" "No more games/jokes. Who are you?"
"Verith." "Truth."As in: Tell me the truth. Like in that Belle Gibson interview when Tara says "Truth, Belle" lol, idk why I instantly thought of that when I wrote this. That interview is wild btw you should totally watch it while washing dishes. I've probably seen it like 10 times, it never gets old.
[Valdricht's threat with the dagger]
"Veth sairith eri'na, eri vyn kraveth sairith'vek?" "Will all that is mine be set against me?"Such a poetic statement. Also a bit emo. Val's kinda dramatic.
"Eri thyn zhivyr sha nydra nei kereveth'vek." "I will not take your life tonight."
"Sha makraeth neizven eri drosketh'vek nei." "I will not suffer these games again."
"Eri'na zhiras'sal eri vaerynel sairyn, kala eri yn thyrel'dra." "I am older now than my sire was when I killed him."
"Eri tharvel sairyn." "I am more [powerful]."I'll probably tweak this one later for better clarity.
"Thy eri vyn grothvel sairys, thyn threvyna zorel sairel." "Betray me, and your death will be slow."
"Thy verithyn sairys, eri venir zvethrel kalar'vek." "If you are innocent, I will make it swift."
"Sei drei llywen, thyra y gevril'sal threv, eri'th sha vaerynel gath'vek." "Either way, before winter's end, we will depart this world together."
"Eri'thal nyfraith eudnas'dra, synara." "As our bond has always spoken, mate."I don't like this sentence either, it's a bit clunky and relies way too heavily on fancy phrasings.
[MC's flight attempt]
"Thy thyrel tharrys? Luskra nei sairith, thyra zelvyr sal tharil'nev." "Do you want to die? There is nothing, only snow for a thousand spans."
[Return/Enter tent]
"Thy velyr sairys?" "Are you alright?"You'll see this one a lot.
[Valdricht instructs MC to give Kerach her hand]
"Thy doryn a Kerach rhasir'vir." "Give Kerach your hand."
"Kerach nei veskara ywen eri'na zhiras'sal nerila sairel. Sha ywen'sal krov val eri'na synvreth. Tharvel." "Kerach doesn't believe she is my sire's progeny. But her blood and mine are related. Potentially."
"Eryth ywen thyn nerila sairel. Na?" "Then she must be your progeny. Right?"
"Nei. Eri yn geleth'dra." "No. I would know it."
"Sha thy ywen val nyfraith zairys. Tharvel ywen thyn synara sairel." "But you feel a bond with her. Perhaps she is your mate descendant."Error here, I'll correct it later.
"Eri yn geleth'dra." "I would know it."
"Adonir nerila vethrel kalar'dra veis. Nei eri yn geleth'dra." "Adonir must have left another progeny somewhere. One I was not aware of."
"Thy veskara?" "You think?"
"Sei drei llywen, ywen zhiravel sairel. Vaerynel zven y duv'sal Elovyr llywen myndir'dra. Tharvel eri ywen'sal kavreth gruneth'dra." "Either that, or she is atavistic. It has been a long time since the old gods walked Elovyr. Perhaps I confused her taste."
"Veth thy ywen val kalar'vek?" "What are you going to do with her?"
"Y gevril thyra krov zairyn val ywen kreleth." "Spend the winter drinking and fucking her."Lol.
Context
Not everyone played the original Bride of Shadows and might be confused by all of this, even with the translations. I won't spoil too much, but essentially our MC has very fancy blood. Similar to Valdricht's, it's highly addictive divine blood. Moreover, its taste bears a striking resemblance to that of Valdricht's maker who he...didn't get along with all that much. His maker was fond of doing rather sadistic things to him, and so the first conclusion he drew was that the MC was somehow sent by his maker to manipulate him.
When Serax told the MC she had bad blood, it was just his attempt at explaining why Val reacted so fiercely. In reality, her blood is very good, dangerously so.
I think the most striking line from this is when Valdricht essentially says that either way, whether she's deceiving him or she's innocent, she's not surviving the winter. There's a lot behind that which players of the original will have an inkling about, but we'll dive deeper into that later, and with more clarity in the other routes.
