Chrissie Reacts

I'm upset with the writers for giving Elliot even more trauma. It's just bullying at this point.

The source of Elliot's trauma was always meant to be this. The window question was always there. Much of the other trauma that has been heaped on him has been due to good ratings and extending the show to four seasons. The creator of the show said he always knew where it was going to end, it was just a matter of how to get there.

This is super subjective, but I would have been pulled in more had the reveal been in a more grounded setting. I'm surprised he waited 4 seasons for the reveal, only to do it at the hands of Vera, of all people, in an episode designed to remind the viewer that we are watching theatre. Had it been a talk with Darlene or even with his therapist on their own, it would have felt so much more personal and real... I think it's a shame it was done this way... but I understand I'm probably in the minority.

That said, maybe these choices will all make sense by the finale!

Interesting thought on matching the style of the episode with the actor. The stand-out actor for me in this episode though is Krista.

It's a TV show, so they didn't have to be realistic with it, but the real condition of Dissociative Identity Disorder (multiple personalities) doesn't really occur in people who don't have severe childhood trauma. There are predispositions like a strong tendency to disassociate, but it doesn't happen with genetic factors alone; sadly, it requires severe and usually repeated trauma before the age when someone's personality starts to integrate. They didn't ever have to give us an explanation for what caused Elliot's condition, but it was always going to be something like that.
