Last year when I was going through the complexities of a break up and huge upheaval this quote (and this essay) was like life-support. Three affirmations I needed, and that’s the first thing I thought of when I heard of Ms. Morrison’s passing today.

There was so much shame wrapped up in that break up, and so much distrust in the universe. I needed wise words like this. I still do. I’m only now starting to write about it, and see the bigger picture. I saw this tweet About Toni Morrison today and it comforted me:

Such a loss for the universe, but her time here was such a gift. Particularly her “stolen time”.
