My lover is working all weekend. Long heavy shifts. She comes back to her nest only to sleep. I languish here in her space, smelling her on her pillows, wearing her hoodie, using her shampoo. So close.

It’s my weekend off. I rest and recouperate. I smoke in my undies on the balcony. I binge watch The Chair and scoff at the latest episode of L-Word. (Why is poly representation always bad?)

I’ve been thinking about my birthday, I’ve been thinking of cutting my hair, I’ve been thinking about my Great Grandmother and how she always said you could make anywhere home. (She would know.)

When my love returns to her nest I’m waiting. Thighs spread for her, lights turned down low. She takes me to bed, she’ll be up before the birds again. I put her to sleep with a smile on her face. I dream of her when she’s gone.
