Inside the closed carriage, heavy curtains drawn tight against dust, prying gazes, and the occasional cold wind off the Trident, sat Barbrey Dustin.

She had been quiet since Harrenhal—quiet but watchful, the kind of silence that weighed more than words and carried its own sharp edge. In the capital she had played the game with practiced ruthlessness: sharp glances across crowded halls, whispered promises in torchlit alcoves, frantic fucks in stolen rooms where the risk of discovery only sharpened the pleasure. On the road it was different. No audience. No rush. No need to perform for anyone but each other.

The first night out she had climbed into his lap by the dying fire of a roadside camp, skirts hiked to her hips, and ridden him slow and deep until the only sounds were her soft, controlled gasps and the crackle of embers. She had whispered promises against his mouth—loyalty, land, heirs—each word punctuated by the roll of her hips. The second night she had knelt in the straw of a stable loft while the men stood watch below, taken him in her mouth with deliberate reverence, swallowed every drop while he gripped her hair and told her exactly what kind of lady she would be when they reached Greywater View: his lady, his partner, his weapon. The third night he had taken her ass—bent her over a scarred trestle table in the back room of a crossroads inn while the rest of the men stood guard outside. She had come so hard her teeth sank into her own lip, drawing blood; he had licked it off her mouth afterward, tasting iron and salt while she trembled beneath him, thighs slick and shaking.

Now, two weeks into the journey north, the morning sickness started.

She woke pale before first light, stumbled out of the inn on unsteady legs, and retched violently into the bushes behind the stable. The sound was raw—dry heaves turning wet, bile spattering the leaves in thin, sour sprays. The chill morning air made her shiver harder, gooseflesh rising on her arms beneath the dark wool gown. Adian followed without hurry, boots quiet on the dew-soaked grass. He leaned one shoulder against the rough timber wall of the stable, arms crossed over his chest, watching her with calm, unreadable eyes.

“Again?” he asked. Voice low. No concern. Just confirmation.

Barbrey braced one hand on a low branch, wiped her mouth with the back of the other. Her dark wool gown—practical for the road, high-necked and plain—clung to her from the chill and the faint sweat of nausea. She straightened slowly, color already creeping back into her cheeks.

“Third morning in a row,” she said. Voice steady despite the lingering tremor in her hands. She pressed her palm flat to her stomach—still flat beneath the wool, no visible swell yet—and met his gaze without flinching. “It’s not the road food. It’s not nerves.”

He studied her in the grey light: the way her breasts already looked a fraction fuller, straining slightly against the bodice when she breathed deep; the faint darkening of her nipples visible through the thin wool when she inhaled sharply; the subtle softening around her hips that had started in the last week. He nodded once.

“We’ll stop at the next village,” he said. “Send for a midwife.”

The midwife was a hard-faced crone from a fishing village on the western fork of the Trident—grey hair scraped back in a tight knot, hands knotted and strong from decades of pulling babies into the world and laying the dead to rest. She poked and prodded Barbrey in the back room of the next inn while Adian waited outside with his men, leaning against the carriage wheel, arms still crossed.

The old woman emerged after twenty minutes, wiping her hands on a rag that had once been white.

“A month, maybe five weeks,” she said curtly, voice like dry reeds. “Strong heartbeat already. She’s carrying well—no bleeding, no fever. Feed her ginger and dry bread in the mornings. It’ll pass.”

Barbrey stepped out a moment later, color fully returned to her cheeks, eyes bright and sharp again. She met Adian’s gaze across the yard and rested one hand on her belly—small, protective gesture, fingers splayed as though she could already feel the life beneath the skin.

“My lord,” she said, voice steady and clear enough to carry to the men without shouting. “We marry as soon as we reach Greywater View.”

Adian inclined his head—just once, decisive.

“We will.”

The rest of the journey passed in charged silence. Barbrey’s hand often found his in the carriage—fingers lacing through his without preamble, thumb rubbing slow, deliberate circles over his knuckles. Not affection in the soft, sentimental way most would understand it. Possession. A silent reminder: this child was theirs. This land would be theirs. This power was theirs.

Greywater View rose out of the bogs like a blunt fist of stone and timber—low, squat, unlovely, but solid as the bedrock beneath the sucking mud. From a distance it looked almost swallowed by the landscape: walls the color of wet slate blending into the grey-green reeds, roofs of thick golden thatch blending into the pale winter sky. But up close the changes were unmistakable. The tower had been half-rebuilt since Adian took possession two years earlier, and the work had never truly stopped. New walls of dark granite—quarried upstream near the Twins and hauled by ox-teams through the shallows—rose another two full stories, their mortar still pale and fresh between the blocks. Scaffolding of lashed reed poles and rough planks still creaked under the weight of teams of sweating stonemasons and reed-cutters who shouted orders in the guttural accents of the Neck. Men in oiled cloaks hauled baskets of fresh-cut blocks up rope-and-pulley rigs; others mixed limewash in wooden troughs, the sharp chemical tang cutting through the ever-present smell of peat and river mud.

Fresh thatch capped the roofs in thick golden layers—harvested only last autumn from the cleanest stands of bog-reed—and women moved across the sloped pitches like ants, weaving in extra layers of waterproof bog-moss and tarred rope to seal every seam against the endless damp. Smoke rose from half a dozen new chimneys: kitchen fires, smithy forges, the small glass-blower’s furnace Adian had imported from Myr at ruinous cost. The entire compound pulsed with quiet, relentless industry. To the east, new wooden docks jutted thirty feet into the sluggish channel of the Trident fork—piles driven deep into the muck and braced with iron bands—where three flat-bottomed barges rocked gently at their moorings. Stevedores in sleeveless tunics loaded them under shouted direction: crates of salted pike stacked in neat pyramids, barrels of peat bricks bound with hemp, bundles of cured otter pelts destined for White Harbor’s furriers and Braavos’s cold markets. The barges would slip downstream under cover of night or fog, tolls paid at the official crossings but the real profit hidden in false bottoms and sealed casks.

Further out, in the reed-choked shallows where no deep-draft vessel could follow, smaller smuggling skiffs bobbed low in the water—narrow, black-painted hulls barely visible against the green-brown tangle. Their holds were packed tight: bolts of Braavosi silk dyed in forbidden Tyroshi hues, casks of Pentoshi sweet-wine laced with dreamwine for the highborn who craved sweeter sleep, sealed jars of Myrish glass that would fetch triple the price once they slipped past the royal toll stations downstream. Tolls on the main crossing brought steady, predictable coin—every merchant, every fisherman, every caravan paid the Frey levy or found their goods mysteriously lost in the bogs overnight, hulls holed by hidden stakes or crews vanished into the mist. But the illegal routes funneled fatter purses: forbidden books from the Free Cities bound in human skin, small quantities of Lysene poison distilled to kill without trace, the occasional crate of raw iron ore rerouted from Lannister mines and stamped with false seals before being sold to Riverlands smiths who asked no questions. Caravan masters paid in advance for safe passage—half in gold, half in promises—and Iron Bank factors in Braavos sent quarterly letters on fine rag paper, confirming new lines of credit secured against those same hidden profits. Sawmills on the western edge of the holding ground day and night, blades screaming through fresh timber for new storehouses and barracks; peat cutters stacked fuel in long black ricks for winter trade; a small but growing stable of swift horses—mostly dappled greys bred for endurance—stood ready in the new paddocks to carry messages or gold north to White Harbor or south to Riverrun as needed.

The air smelled of wet earth, smoke, tar, and the faint metallic bite of forge-work. Somewhere a hammer rang steadily on an anvil; a woman’s voice called sharp orders in the old tongue of the crannogmen; children darted between the legs of workers, carrying water skins and small bundles of kindling.

Crannogmen watched them approach from hidden platforms in the reeds—small, still figures in mottled cloaks of moss and mud, faces painted with streaks of ochre and charcoal. Bows were half-drawn out of long habit before they recognized the banners on the carriage and the riders. The bows lowered. The figures melted away without a word—slipping into the green-brown tangle like ghosts, vanishing so completely that no ripple marked where they had been. Silent word would spread through the bogs within the hour: the new lord and his lady had returned.

Adian’s core men were waiting in the yard: Juran, Ando, Dantis, Derrock, Arrel. Hard faces weathered by years of river wind and bog fever, loyal blades worn smooth at the grips from constant use, scarred hands resting easy on sword hilts and dagger pommels. They stood in a loose semicircle near the gatehouse steps—boots planted in the churned mud, cloaks thrown back to show mail shirts and the small iron badges Adian had given them: a single tower encircled by reeds.

They bowed when he dismounted—short, respectful, no flourish, no scraping. Juran stepped forward first, the oldest of them, hair streaked iron-grey, left eye milky from an old wound that had never quite healed right.

“Lord,” Juran said, voice gravel from years of shouting orders over wind and water and the roar of barges. “Place is secure. Stores full—grain silos topped off from the last harvest, salt fish in barrels, smoked venison hanging in the smokehouses. No trouble from the south since the last Frey levy came through; the Blackwood men grumbled but paid. Reed men send word they’ll speak when you call—old Howland’s son brought the message himself last week, said the crannog-folk are watching the crossings like hawks.”

Adian nodded once, handing the reins of his mount to a waiting stableboy who looked barely old enough to shave. Barbrey dismounted beside him—careful, one hand braced on the saddle pommel, the other resting lightly on the faint swell beneath her gown. She moved with the deliberate grace of a woman already feeling the weight of new life inside her.

Juran’s gaze flicked to her—brief, respectful—then back to Adian.

“Dock crews report two barges already southbound with pike and peat; the third loads tomorrow for White Harbor. Smugglers brought in another run of Braavosi silk last night—six bolts, dyed in the new Tyroshi reds. Iron Bank letter came with the last raven; they’ve extended another line of credit, fifty gold dragons against next quarter’s tolls and the glass shipment. No losses on the hidden routes since we sank that Bolton scout boat three weeks back.”

Adian’s mouth curved—just a fraction.

“Good. Keep the tolls steady; let the merchants complain but pay. Double the watch on the smuggling skiffs—no mistakes. And tell the reed men I’ll speak to them at dusk tomorrow. Bring the old one if he’ll come.”

“Welcome home, wife,” he said quietly.  “We wed tomorrow. Quiet. Sept only. You five witness. No one else.”

She looked up at the tower—its new walls rising stark against the grey sky, smoke curling from the chimneys, the distant ring of hammer on anvil, the low murmur of men and women at work—and smiled. Small, sharp, satisfied.

“Home,” she echoed.

The yard bustled around them—stableboys leading horses away, workers hauling the last crates from the carriage, a woman calling children back from the docks before they fell in. Rain began to fall again, soft and steady, drumming on the fresh thatch and the iron-banded doors.

Greywater View breathed. It worked. It grew.

And now it had a lord and lady to steer it deeper into the shadows where the real wealth waited.

The men nodded. No questions. No surprise. They had seen enough to know what kind of house this would be.

That night Barbrey bathed in the solar’s copper tub while Adian watched from a chair near the hearth. Steam rose in slow, lazy coils around her naked body—already fuller from the pregnancy, hips rounder and softer, breasts heavier and faintly veined beneath the pale skin. Droplets slid down her collarbones like liquid silver, traced the heavy curves of her tits, gathered at her dark, stiff nipples before falling into the water with soft, rhythmic plinks. She soaked for a long time, letting the heat ease the ache of the long ride, eyes half-closed, one hand resting protectively on the faint swell of her belly.

When she finally rose from the tub, water streamed off her in shining sheets, running down the swell of her breasts, over the curve of her stomach, and between her thighs in glistening rivulets. She didn’t reach for a towel. Instead she stepped out of the copper basin and walked straight to him across the fresh rushes—bare feet silent, skin flushed pink from the heat, nipples tight and glistening.

“Tomorrow I become your wife in name,” she said, voice low and husky as she straddled his lap without preamble. Warm bathwater immediately soaked through his breeches, clinging to his thighs. She settled her weight fully, her slick cunt brushing deliberately against the growing hardness beneath the fabric. “Tonight I remind you why.”

She leaned in, full breasts pressing against his chest, lips brushing the shell of his ear.

“Tonight I show you exactly what kind of lady Greywater View will have.”

She kissed him—slow, deep, tasting of salt and the faint sweetness of the figs she’d eaten earlier. Then she slid down his body with deliberate grace, sinking to her knees between his spread legs. The black velvet of her discarded gown lay forgotten on the floor like spilled ink. Barbrey looked up at him through dark lashes, eyes shining with something between devotion and hunger.

Adian unbuckled his belt slowly, letting the leather slide free. His breeches opened with a soft rustle. His cock sprang out—thick, heavy, already half-hard and thickening further under her gaze, the veined shaft curving slightly upward, the broad head flushed dark and glistening at the slit.

Barbrey leaned forward without being told. She started with reverence. Her lips brushed the underside of his shaft in a soft, worshipful kiss, then another, trailing from base to tip like she was greeting something sacred. She pressed her cheek against the warm, velvety length, inhaling deeply—taking in the musky, masculine scent of him after a long day on the road.

“Gods, you’re beautiful,” she whispered, voice thick. “So thick… so heavy for me.”

Her tongue came out—slow, flat, dragging a long, wet stripe from the base all the way to the head. She circled the flared crown with the tip of her tongue, lapping gently at the bead of pre-cum that welled there, savoring the salty taste with a soft, appreciative hum. Then she opened wide and took him in.

Her lips stretched tight around his girth, cheeks hollowing as she sucked the head into the wet heat of her mouth. She didn’t rush. She worshipped—slow, deliberate bobs of her head, tongue working flat and firm against the sensitive underside, swirling around the ridge with every upward stroke. Wet, obscene sucking sounds filled the solar: soft slurps, the quiet pop when she pulled back to breathe, the low, hungry moans vibrating down his shaft.

Adian groaned low in his chest, one hand sliding into her dark hair—not forcing, just guiding, fingers tangling gently.

“That’s it,” he murmured, voice rough with pleasure. “Look at you… my wife on her knees the night before our wedding, sucking her lord husband’s cock like it’s the only thing that matters in the world. Such a good fucking lady. So devoted.”

Barbrey moaned louder around him, the vibration making his cock twitch against her tongue. She took him deeper—inch by thick inch—until the head nudged the back of her throat. Her eyes watered but never left his face. She held there for a moment, throat fluttering around him, then pulled back with a wet gasp, strings of saliva connecting her swollen lips to his glistening shaft.

“I love this cock,” she breathed, voice hoarse and worshipful. “So big… so heavy in my mouth. I can feel it throbbing on my tongue. I want to taste every drop you give me tonight.”

She dove back down—eager, hungry—bobbing faster now. Her head moved in a steady rhythm: down until her nose brushed the coarse hair at his base, throat convulsing around him with wet, gagging sounds, then up with a long, slurping pull that left his shaft shining with her spit. Drool ran down her chin in thick strands, dripping onto her heavy tits and sliding between them in shiny trails. Her breasts swayed heavily with every movement—full, flushed, nipples stiff and dark.

Adian’s grip tightened slightly in her hair, hips twitching forward to meet her mouth.

“Fuck… such a perfect mouth,” he growled. “Swallowing me so deep like a proper wife should. You’re going to be the Lady of Greywater View tomorrow—sitting at my table, giving me heirs, ruling beside me—but right now you’re just my cock-hungry woman on her knees. Sucking like you were born for it.”

Barbrey whimpered around his thickness, the praise making her cunt throb. She sucked harder—cheeks hollowing, tongue pressing firmly, throat opening to take him even deeper. The wet, filthy noises grew louder: rhythmic slurps, gagging glucks when he hit the back of her throat, the soft slap of her spit-slick chin against his balls. Her hands rested on his thighs, fingers digging in as she worked him with total devotion.

Adian’s breathing grew ragged. “That’s my good girl… my perfect wife. Look at those pretty lips stretched so wide. You’re taking every inch like you can’t get enough. Gonna fill that royal mouth tonight. First load goes straight down your throat. Swallow it all for me.”

She moaned loudly in agreement, the sound vibrating through his entire length. Her head bobbed faster—wet, eager, worshipful—spit flying, drool coating his balls and dripping onto the rushes beneath her knees. Her tits bounced heavily with every downward stroke, nipples brushing his thighs.

Adian’s hips started to move—shallow thrusts to meet her mouth, fucking her face with controlled power. “Fuck—yes—just like that. Worship it. Show me how much you love being my lady… my whore… my everything.”

Barbrey’s eyes watered, tears of effort sliding down her cheeks, but she never slowed. She took him to the root again and again, throat convulsing, gagging wetly, then pulling back to gasp for air before diving down once more. The sounds were lewd and constant: sloppy slurping, deep gagging, her desperate, muffled moans, the wet smack of her lips and tongue working his cock.

“I’m close,” he groaned, fingers tightening in her hair. “Gonna cum—swallow every fucking drop, Barbrey. Be a good wife and drink it all.”

She whimpered eagerly, sucking harder, tongue swirling frantically under the head. Her hands cupped his balls—gently massaging, rolling them as she deep-throated him one final time.

Adian’s hips jerked. With a low, guttural groan he came—thick, hot pulses flooding her mouth. Rope after heavy rope of cum shot across her tongue, filling her so fast she had to swallow frantically to keep up. The wet, audible gulps mixed with her soft, satisfied moans as she drank him down—throat working visibly, not spilling a single drop.

When the last spurt faded, she kept him in her mouth—sucking gently, milking every last bit, tongue cleaning the sensitive head with slow, reverent strokes. Only when he was completely spent did she pull off with a soft, wet pop. A thin string of saliva and cum connected her swollen lips to his cock for a moment before breaking.

She looked up at him—lips shiny, chin glistening, eyes dark with devotion—and licked her lips slowly.

Adian stroked her hair, thumb brushing her cheek.

“Good wife,” he murmured, voice thick with satisfaction. “So fucking perfect. You swallowed every drop like the devoted lady you are. Tomorrow you’ll stand beside me and take my name in front of the septon and my men. But tonight… you reminded me exactly why I chose you.”

He helped her to her feet, pulling her close for a slow, deep kiss—tasting himself on her tongue.

“The rest,” he whispered against her lips, “we’ll do tomorrow. After you’re officially mine. I want you as my wife then I’ll fuck you again as your Lord Husband—cunt, ass, mouth—until you can’t walk straight.”

Barbrey smiled against his mouth, still breathing hard, body flushed and aching with need.

“I can’t wait, husband.”

***

The wedding was over before the sun reached its peak.

No banners snapped in the wind. No minstrels plucked lutes or sang of love and duty. No guests crowded the hall beyond the five men who already knew too much and said too little. The septon—a thin, nervous man brought up from the nearest village on a borrowed mule—stood before the small seven-sided altar with shoulders hunched against the damp chill. Rain pattered steadily against the tower’s new leaded windows, a soft, constant drum that filled the silence between his words. He spoke the ancient vows in a low, hurried monotone, eyes darting to the floor as though afraid to meet anyone’s gaze for too long. His thin fingers clutched the worn prayer book so tightly the knuckles showed white, and every time a gust of wind rattled the glass he flinched, as if expecting divine disapproval for the speed and secrecy of this union.

Adian stood in dark wool and leather—simple, unadorned, the kind of garb that let a man move fast and quiet if he had to. The wool was thick and practical, dyed a deep charcoal that blended with the storm-light, the leather of his jerkin supple from years of wear. His hand rested steady on the hilt of the longsword at his hip, thumb brushing the worn grip out of habit, the familiar texture grounding him in the moment. He watched the septon with calm, unreadable eyes, his posture relaxed yet alert, the kind of stillness that came from knowing exactly how quickly things could turn violent in the Riverlands.

Barbrey wore simple black velvet trimmed in grey—no jewels beyond the single ruby at her throat, no embroidery, no heavy brocade. The fabric hugged her fuller figure from the early pregnancy, the deep black making her pale skin glow against the grey trim. The velvet clung to the swell of her breasts, now heavier and rounder, the neckline modest yet unable to fully hide the way they strained against the material. It accentuated the gentle curve of her belly and the wider flare of her hips, the soft, womanly fullness that had begun to show in recent weeks. The single ruby at her throat caught the weak, watery light filtering through the rain-streaked glass and gleamed like a fresh drop of blood against her pale skin, a single spark of color in the otherwise muted ceremony.

They spoke their vows in front of the small seven-sided altar—old words, older promises, the language of the Faith rolling off their tongues with quiet weight. Juran, Ando, Dantis, Derrock, and Arrel stood at the back wall like statues, arms crossed over mail and leather, faces blank masks of professional indifference. Rainwater dripped from their cloaks onto the stone floor in small puddles, but none of them shifted or coughed. They simply watched, eyes sharp beneath hooded brows, ready for any sign of trouble even in this most private of moments.

When the septon finally pronounced them man and wife—voice cracking slightly on the last syllable, relief flooding his thin face—Adian didn’t kiss her. He simply took her hand, turned it palm-up, and pressed his lips once to her knuckles—brief, deliberate, a seal more than a gesture of affection. The touch was warm, steady, and carried the quiet promise of everything that would come after the ceremony ended.

Then he turned to the men.

“Greywater View has a lady now,” he said, voice carrying clear and low through the hall. “And an heir on the way. You protect them both. Anyone who forgets that answers to me.”

Five heads dipped in unison—short, sharp, unquestioning. No cheers. No toasts. No ribald jokes or raised cups. Just the quiet certainty of men who understood exactly what kind of house they served now: one built on coin, secrets, ruthless pragmatism, and the kind of loyalty that didn’t need songs to hold it together.

The septon left within the hour—paid in silver, mounted on his mule, vanishing into the rain without looking back. The rain kept falling, steady and grey, drumming on the roof like distant fingers. Adian and Barbrey walked the short corridor to the lord’s chambers—newly furnished, still smelling faintly of fresh-sawn timber, limewash, and the faint resin of new pine beams. A wide bed waited under heavy furs—dark wolf and bear pelts layered thick. A low fire burned in the hearth, casting shifting orange light across the stone walls. The room was warm, quiet, theirs.

Barbrey closed the door herself. The heavy oak thudded softly into the frame. The bolt slid home with a solid, final clunk.

She turned to face him.

“Husband.”

“Wife.” Adian stepped closer, boots quiet on the fresh rushes. His fingers brushed the clasp at her throat—small, deft motion—and the ruby came away in his hand. He set it carefully on the side table beside the bed, the gem winking once in the firelight before going still. “Tonight isn’t about power plays or secrets. Tonight is about making sure you understand exactly what you married into.”

She smiled—small, knowing, the corners of her mouth lifting just enough to show teeth.

“I already know.”

“Then show me.”

She sank to her knees without being told. The black velvet pooled around her like spilled ink, soft folds spreading across the rushes. Adian unbuckled his belt with slow, deliberate movements, let his breeches fall to his ankles. His cock sprang free—thick, heavy, already hardening at the sight of her there in her wedding finery: dark velvet clinging to her fuller curves, ruby gone but the faint red mark it had left still visible at the hollow of her throat.

Barbrey leaned forward without hesitation. She started with reverence, pressing soft, open-mouthed kisses along the thick underside of his shaft, lips brushing warm skin as if greeting something sacred. She nuzzled her cheek against the heavy length, inhaling deeply—taking in the rich, musky scent of him after the long day on the road. Her tongue came out next, slow and flat, dragging a long, wet stripe from the base all the way to the flared head. She circled the sensitive ridge with the tip of her tongue, lapping gently at the bead of pre-cum that welled there, savoring the salty taste with a soft, appreciative hum that vibrated against him.

Barbrey leaned in and kissed the head first—soft, reverent, lips brushing the slit in a slow, almost worshipful press. She lingered there for a moment, letting her warm breath ghost over the sensitive skin, feeling the thick vein pulse beneath her lips. Then she opened wide and took him deep in one smooth, practiced motion. No teasing. No hesitation. She sucked him with slow, worshipful pulls—tongue flat and firm against the thick underside, cheeks hollowing on every upstroke, lips stretched tight around his girth until the corners of her mouth ached. Her hands rested on his thighs—steady, grounding herself—fingers splayed against the hard muscle, thumbs stroking lightly as if to reassure him of her complete devotion.

Adian groaned low in his chest, the sound rumbling through him like distant thunder. His fingers threaded through her dark hair—not yanking, just holding, guiding the rhythm with gentle pressure that told her exactly how he wanted it.

“That’s it,” he murmured, voice gravel-rough and thick with pleasure. “Suck your lord husband. Show me the devotion you swore today in front of the Seven and five men who’d kill for us without blinking. That’s my good wife… taking me so deep already, like you were made for this cock.”

She moaned around him—the sound vibrating straight down his shaft, making his balls tighten and draw up. Spit slicked her chin in shining trails, dripping steadily onto the swell of her breasts and soaking into the black velvet in dark, spreading patches. She took him deeper until her nose brushed the coarse hair at his base, throat convulsing and fluttering around the thick head with wet, gagging sounds that echoed softly in the quiet chamber. The obscene noises filled the room: the wet slurps of her lips sliding along his shaft, the deep glucking of her throat working to swallow him, the soft, desperate hums of pleasure she couldn’t hold back.

He held her there for a long count of five—letting her throat work around him, flutter and squeeze, feeling the tight heat massage every inch—then eased her back just enough to breathe. She gasped for air, a thick string of saliva connecting her swollen, shiny lips to the glistening head of his cock, before he guided her down again.

“Swallow every drop tonight,” he said quietly, voice low and commanding. “First load goes down your throat. The rest go where they belong—deep in my wife’s cunt, my wife’s ass, wherever I decide to put them. You’re going to be full of me before the night is over.”

She hummed agreement—low, eager, the vibration traveling through his entire length and making his hips twitch. Her head began bobbing faster now, wet and rhythmic, each downstroke taking him to the back of her throat with a wet gluck, each upstroke leaving his shaft shining with thick ropes of her spit. Drool ran freely down her chin, dripping in heavy strands onto her heavy tits, soaking the velvet until the fabric clung transparently to her fuller curves. Her breasts swayed heavily with every movement of her head—rounder and heavier from the pregnancy, nipples pressing dark and stiff against the damp material, begging for attention.

Adian reached down with one hand, tugged the laces open in a quick, efficient pull. The bodice parted with a soft whisper; her breasts spilled free—heavy, pale, faintly veined blue beneath the skin, nipples dark and erect from the cool air and the friction of the velvet. They bounced gently with her rhythm, the soft flesh rippling as she worked him.

He palmed one roughly—big hand engulfing the soft mound, squeezing until flesh bulged between his fingers, the weight of it filling his palm perfectly. His thumb flicked the stiff peak once, twice, then pinched—hard enough to make her whimper around his cock, the vibration traveling straight to his spine and drawing a deep groan from his chest.

“Fuck… look at these tits,” he growled, voice strained with building pleasure. “Already so full for me. Gonna get even heavier when you’re carrying my child. I’ll suck them dry every night while you moan like the devoted wife you are.”

The filthy praise made her suck harder—cheeks hollowing, tongue pressing firmly against the underside, throat opening greedily. The wet, filthy sounds grew louder and more obscene: rhythmic slurps, deep gagging glucks when the head breached her throat, the soft slap of her spit-slick chin against his heavy balls. Drool poured down her chin in thick rivulets, coating her neck and dripping onto her exposed breasts, making them glisten in the firelight.

Adian’s hips started to move—shallow, controlled thrusts that met her mouth, fucking her face with measured power while his hand continued to maul her tit, pinching and rolling the nipple until she whimpered and moaned around his thickness.

He came with a rough grunt—hips twitching forward, thick pulses flooding her mouth. Rope after heavy rope of hot, salty cum shot across her tongue, filling her so quickly she had to swallow frantically, throat working visibly with audible gulps. She didn’t spill a single drop—drinking him down with eager, worshipful swallows, her moans turning into soft, satisfied hums as she milked every last spurt from him.

When the last pulse faded, she kept him in her mouth—sucking gently, tongue swirling slowly to clean the sensitive head, lips sealed tight around the shaft. Only when he was completely spent did she pull off with a soft, wet pop. A thin string of saliva and cum connected her swollen, shiny lips to his cock for a moment before breaking. She looked up at him—lips glossy, chin glistening with spit and traces of his seed, eyes dark with devotion—and licked her lips slowly, savoring the taste.

Adian stroked her hair, thumb brushing her flushed cheek with surprising gentleness.

“Good wife,” he said, voice gravel-rough and deeply satisfied. “So fucking perfect. You swallowed every drop like the devoted lady you are.”

He helped her to her feet—hands firm under her arms—then stripped the rest of her clothes away in quick, efficient pulls. The black velvet fell away in a soft heap. Naked now, she looked softer than she had in King’s Landing—hips rounder from the early swell, belly just beginning to curve with the faintest suggestion of life beneath, breasts heavier and fuller, veins faintly blue under the pale skin, nipples darker and more prominent.

She stood there in the firelight—unashamed, unflinching—letting him look.

Adian’s eyes moved over her slowly—possessive, appraising, hungry.

He laid her on her back across the furs. The heavy wolf and bear pelts were soft beneath her, still carrying the faint wild scent of tannery and smoke. Barbrey’s dark hair fanned out across the black fur like spilled ink. Adian hooked his hands under her knees, lifted her legs high, and folded her into the same breeding press he’d used on Cersei—knees driven back toward her shoulders until they pressed against the undersides of her heavy breasts, squashing the soft mounds outward so they bulged and spilled to the sides. Her ass lifted clear of the furs, cunt exposed and already glistening—lips swollen and parted from earlier play, inner folds dark pink and slick, a thin thread of arousal stretching between them before snapping.

He lined up without pause. The thick head of his cock nudged her entrance—hot, slick, still glistening from her mouth—then sank in with one long, slow, deliberate thrust.

Barbrey gasped—sharp, indrawn breath that ended in a low, broken moan. Her fingers dug into his shoulders, nails biting into his skin hard enough to leave half-moons. “Gods—deep—”

He bottomed out in one smooth glide—pubic bone grinding firmly against her swollen clit, the fat head pressed flush to her cervix with heavy, insistent pressure. She felt every thick inch stretching her open again, her walls fluttering helplessly around him, still sensitive and tender from the long ride north and the months of taking him whenever and wherever the mood struck. The fullness was overwhelming—bordering on too much—yet exactly what her body craved.

“This is how we make heirs,” he grunted, voice low and rough against her ear, breath hot on her skin. He started a hard, grinding rhythm—no teasing, no gentleness now. His hips snapped forward, pulling almost all the way out before slamming back in deep enough to make her whole body jolt. Each thrust landed with wet, steady smacks—his pelvis slapping against the soft underside of her ass, the sound loud and obscene, echoing off the stone walls of the chamber. Her heavy tits bounced and rippled with every impact, the soft flesh jiggling, nipples dragging against the coarse fur beneath her and sending sparks of sensation straight to her core. “No games. No audience. No septas or lords watching. Just my cock in my wife’s cunt, putting another babe in you while the first one grows.”

He leaned down, mouth closing over one dark, stiff nipple—sucking hard enough to make her arch off the furs, back bowing sharply. A thin bead of early milk—sweet, warm, faintly creamy—leaked onto his tongue. He groaned against her skin, the deep vibration traveling straight to her core and making her walls clench around him. “Fuck. Already leaking for me. Tits full and ready even before you show. These are going to get so much heavier… so much fuller when you’re round with my child. I’ll suck them dry every night while you moan and beg for more.”

She moaned loud—raw, unrestrained—hips rocking up desperately to meet his next punishing thrust. “Fill me—please—keep me pregnant—keep me swollen—give me your babies, Adian—”

He fucked her harder—hips snapping with brutal precision, grinding deep on every downstroke so the head battered her cervix with rhythmic, insistent pressure. His hands came up to maul her tits—big palms engulfing the soft, heavy mounds, squeezing until the pale flesh spilled between his fingers and bulged obscenely. He pinched and tugged her nipples—hard, deliberate—until thin streams of sweet milk dribbled down the curves of her breasts and soaked into the furs beneath her. The sight of her leaking for him, her body already changing because of him, pushed him dangerously close to the edge.

“Gonna flood this fertile cunt,” he growled, voice scraped raw with lust. “Gonna keep you swollen and leaking for years. Every babe after this one—same way. You’ll carry my children, one after another, tits dripping milk, belly round and heavy, while I fuck you through every pregnancy. You’ll be my perfect breeding wife—always full of my seed, always ready for the next one.”

The filthy words sank into her like teeth. Combined with the devastating angle—him so deep he was grinding against places that made stars burst behind her eyes, her clit mashed relentlessly against his pubic bone on every thrust—she came first. Her back bowed sharply off the furs, a raw, desperate cry tearing out of her throat—high and broken, echoing through the chamber. Her walls clamped down hard, rippling and spasming around his pistoning cock in fierce, milking pulses. Slick heat gushed around him in hot waves, soaking his balls and dripping down the crack of her ass to pool on the thick pelts beneath them.

Adian didn’t slow. He fucked her through it—harder if anything—hips snapping forward with punishing force, driving every thick inch into her convulsing cunt while she trembled and cried out beneath him.

He slammed deep one final time—buried to the hilt, pubic bone grinding hard against her oversensitive clit—and unloaded. Thick, hot spurts painted her insides—pulse after heavy pulse, flooding straight toward her womb in powerful jets. He held himself there, hips twitching with each spurt, grinding slow, deliberate circles to force every last drop as far inside her as it would go. Barbrey whimpered beneath him, walls still fluttering weakly around his shaft, body limp and trembling in the aftermath, her heavy breasts rising and falling rapidly with each ragged breath.

He stayed seated inside her for long seconds—both of them breathing hard, chests heaving in ragged unison. His cock remained buried to the hilt, twitching occasionally with the last aftershocks of his release, while her walls continued to flutter weakly around him, milking every drop he had given her. The room was filled with the wet, sticky sounds of their joined bodies and the soft crackle of the hearth fire. Barbrey’s legs trembled faintly where they were still folded against her chest, her heavy tits pressed flat and spilling to the sides from the intense breeding press.

Then he eased back, slowly, deliberately. His thick cock slipped free with a wet, obscene sound— a lewd, squelching pop that echoed in the quiet chamber. The moment he withdrew, a thick gush of his cum immediately followed—pearly white, viscous, and still warm—leaking from her swollen, gaping folds in a heavy, slow stream. It slid down her slit in a creamy trail, coating her asshole before dripping onto the furs in slow, heavy drops that formed a small, glistening puddle beneath her.

“Turn over,” he said quietly, voice low and commanding, still rough from exertion. “Ass up.”

Barbrey rolled onto her stomach—slow, languid, her limbs heavy and boneless from the powerful orgasm. She pushed her hips high with a soft, breathless whimper, knees spreading wide on the furs, back arched deep in a perfect presentation. She offered herself completely: ass cheeks parted naturally from the position, her tight ring still slick and slightly puffy from earlier play, her cunt still twitching and drooling his seed in slow, lazy rivulets that ran down her inner thighs and soaked into the pelts.

Adian knelt behind her, his big hands spreading her cheeks wide—thumbs digging firmly into the soft, yielding flesh, exposing every intimate inch of her. He pressed the slick, still-rigid head of his cock against her ass—hot and heavy despite the load he’d just given her—and pushed in slow, inch by thick inch, until he was buried to the hilt.

“Fuck—” she hissed through clenched teeth, fingers twisting hard in the furs. The stretch burned—familiar now after the many times he had taken her this way on the road, but no less intense. Her body yielded around him with a soft, wet pop as the thick head breached the tight ring, followed by the heavy, veined shaft stretching her open inch by relentless inch. The fullness was overwhelming, bordering on painful, yet it sent sparks of dark pleasure shooting up her spine.

“Take it,” he growled, voice deep and possessive as he started a deep, rolling rhythm. His hips slapped against her ass—loud, obscene smacks that filled the chamber, making the soft flesh jiggle and ripple with every powerful thrust. The sound was wet and filthy, skin meeting skin, his balls swinging heavily against her dripping cunt with each forward drive. He reached around with one hand, fingers finding her swollen clit, rubbing in tight, merciless circles while he fucked her ass with steady, possessive strokes. “This hole’s mine too. Every part of you. My wife. My lady. My breeding bitch. I own this tight ass, this greedy cunt, these leaking tits—everything.”

The words hit her hard—raw, possessive, perfect. She pushed back against him—greedy, desperate—moaning loudly into the furs, the sound muffled but still broken and needy. “Yes—yours—all yours—fuck my ass—own me—own every hole—please, Adian—”

He rubbed her clit faster—rough, relentless, two thick fingers circling the sensitive bundle of nerves without mercy. Her second orgasm hit like a storm—body shaking violently, ass clenching rhythmically around his thick cock in fierce, milking pulses. Slick heat gushed from her cunt again, squirting in hot little streams that soaked his balls and dripped down her thighs in messy rivulets. Adian followed with a rough shout—hips slamming forward one last time, burying himself to the hilt. He pumped a third thick load deep into her bowels—hot, endless, claiming—spurt after heavy spurt until she felt swollen, overflowing, cum leaking out around his shaft in creamy white rivulets that slid down her crack and pooled beneath her on the furs.

He let her collapse forward—face pressed to the furs, chest heaving, body limp and trembling—then pulled her up gently so she straddled him on the edge of the bed—reverse cowgirl. She sank down onto his cock—cunt swallowing him again with a loud, wet squelch—still slick and full from the previous load. She rode him hard—hips rolling in tight circles, then slamming down—ass slapping against his thighs with sharp, rhythmic smacks. Her heavy tits bounced wildly, milk still leaking in thin streams from the abused nipples, the droplets flying with every powerful bounce.

Adian gripped her hips—bruising hold, fingers digging deep into the soft flesh until the skin paled under the pressure—and slammed her down to meet every bounce. The wet slap of her ass against his thighs filled the chamber, loud and rhythmic, each impact sending ripples through her heavy cheeks and making her full tits bounce wildly in front of her.

“Look at you,” he rasped, voice thick with lust, breath hot against the back of her neck. “Lady of Greywater View, riding your lord husband like a common tavern girl. Tits full of milk, cunt full of cum, ass still leaking me from minutes ago. You’re a mess, wife—my perfect, leaking mess.”

She ground down harder—chasing it desperately, hips rolling in tight, frantic circles that made his cock grind against her inner walls. “Give me more—fill me again—please, Adian—give me everything—”

He mauled her tits from behind—big hands cupping the soft, heavy mounds, squeezing until the pale flesh spilled between his fingers and bulged obscenely. He pinched and tugged her nipples—hard, deliberate—until thin streams of sweet milk sprayed across the furs in small, warm arcs. The droplets landed with soft, wet sounds, soaking into the pelts and making the air smell faintly sweeter. The sight of her leaking for him, her body already changing and swelling because of him, pushed her right to the edge.

She came screaming his name—back arching sharply against his chest, cunt spasming wildly around him in fierce, milking pulses. Her walls clamped down hard, fluttering and squeezing as hot slick gushed around his cock, dripping down his balls and thighs in messy rivulets. The orgasm tore through her so intensely her vision blurred, toes curling, thighs trembling violently as she rode it out with broken, gasping cries.

Adian gripped her hips tighter—holding her down, buried to the hilt—and pumped one last thick load deep inside her. Hot spurts flooded her already-full womb, pulse after heavy pulse, until it bubbled out around his shaft in creamy white rivulets and dripped down his balls onto the ruined furs. He groaned low and guttural against her shoulder, grinding up into her to force every drop as deep as it would go.

They collapsed together—sweaty, spent, tangled in ruined furs. Barbrey curled against his chest—limp, sated, breathing in short, shaky gasps—one hand resting protectively on the faint swell of her belly. Adian’s arm came around her—heavy, possessive—holding her close while their breathing slowly evened out in the quiet room. The fire crackled low. Rain still tapped steadily against the windows, a constant, soothing rhythm.

Neither spoke.

They didn’t need to.

He looked toward the narrow window, watching the water move black and endless under the moon. King’s Landing was a memory now—Robert snoring beside a queen whose cunt still dripped with another man’s seed, lords playing at thrones while their alliances cracked like old ice.

Here, in this damp corner of the Riverlands, something real was taking root.

A wife. An heir. A house built on coin, secrets, and ruthless fucking pragmatism.

Adian pressed a kiss to Barbrey’s damp hair, lips lingering against the dark strands.

While the great game raged on, he was already three moves ahead.

And winning.

The Safehouse stood on a quiet canal in Braavos’s Purple Harbor district—not ostentatious enough to draw the Sealord’s eye, not shabby enough to invite thieves. Four stories of weathered grey stone, narrow windows shuttered with iron lattice, a single arched door painted the same dull green as the water lapping at the quay. From the outside it looked like any other merchant’s townhouse: respectable, unremarkable, forgotten. The building blended seamlessly with its neighbors—plain stone facade streaked with salt from the sea air, no gilded signs or lavish carvings, just the faint creak of wooden shutters and the soft slap of canal water against the quay steps. A casual passerby would assume it housed a modest spice trader or a retired scribe, nothing more. Inside it was something else entirely.

Queen Rhaella Targaryen no longer wore silk or jewels. She wore plain wool in muted greys and blues—Braavosi cut, high-necked, long-sleeved, practical against the salt damp that never quite left the air. The fabric was thick enough to ward off the constant chill that seeped through the stone, yet soft from repeated washings, the color chosen deliberately to help her blend into the background of Braavosi life. Her silver hair was braided simply and pinned beneath a linen cap; no crown, no diadem, no trace of the royal style she had once been forced to maintain even in terror. The children called her “Mother” without titles now, and she answered without hesitation, the word feeling both foreign and achingly right after so many years of being addressed as “Your Grace” or worse. She moved through the house with quiet grace, her posture still carrying the echo of royal training, but her eyes held a new, guarded softness born of survival and motherhood.

The house belonged to no one on any public ledger. The deed was held through three layers of Braavosi shell companies, each one tied to a different Free City factor, each factor quietly indebted to a certain Riverlands lord who preferred his name spoken only in shadows. Servants came and went through the back courtyard—six in all, hired by Adian Frey’s people months ago and paid triple what any Braavosi household would offer for silence. They were not slaves, not courtesans, not spies; they were professionals. A cook who had once fed a Pentoshi magister, a laundress who knew how to remove bloodstains without asking questions, two maids who never met the eyes of the silver-haired woman they served, a tutor who taught the children High Valyrian and arithmetic in equal measure, and an older woman named Lira who acted as nurse, confidante, and—when necessary—enforcer. Each servant had been chosen with care: discreet, competent, and bound by generous pay and the implicit understanding that speaking of the silver-haired woman and her children would end their comfortable lives. They moved through the house like ghosts—efficient, silent when needed, always watchful for any sign of trouble from the canals or the streets beyond.

Every morning began the same way.

Rhaella woke before dawn. The canal outside her window was still dark, the water black and glassy, reflecting only the faint lanterns of the earliest water taxis gliding past like ghosts. She rose quietly, the straw mattress creaking faintly under her weight, and wrapped a thick shawl around her shoulders against the persistent chill that seeped through the stone walls no matter how many fires burned below. The air always carried the faint, briny tang of the sea mixed with damp wood and old stone. She moved with practiced silence, bare feet padding across the cool floorboards, and crossed to the children’s room next door.

Viserys still slept curled on his side like a small dragon guarding treasure, one arm flung protectively over Rhaenys’s blanket, his silver hair tousled and sticking up in wild tufts. The girl—four now, all wide violet eyes and stubborn Targaryen chin—always woke first. The moment the door creaked open, she would sit up, small hands clutching the edge of the coverlet, her face lighting with that familiar mix of hope and caution.

“Is he coming today, Grandmother?” she asked every morning, voice small but steady, the question carrying the weight of months of waiting and quiet disappointment.

Rhaella would kneel beside the bed, the rough wool of her gown pooling around her knees, and brush a strand of silver-gold hair from the child’s forehead with gentle fingers. She gave the same gentle answer she had given for months, her voice soft and reassuring, never wavering.

“Soon, sweetling. Our friend keeps his promises.”

She never said his name. Adian Frey was never spoken aloud in this house—not by the queen, not by the children, not by the servants. He was “our friend,” “the man who helped us,” “the one who brought us here.” The children understood without being told that some names carried weight that could sink a ship or bring fire to a city. They had learned that lesson early, in the smoke and terror of King’s Landing, and the habit had stuck.

Breakfast was simple: porridge with honey and dried figs, fresh flatbread from the bakery two streets over, watered wine for Rhaella and goat’s milk for the children. They ate in the small solar on the second floor, windows cracked open to the canal so they could watch the early barges and water taxis sliding past with their loads of fish, spices, and cloth. Viserys liked to count the oars, his small voice piping up with each stroke, sometimes arguing with himself about whether the count was right. Rhaenys liked to name the gulls that wheeled above the rooftops, giving them grand Valyrian titles like “Stormwing” or “Silverbeak.” Rhaella listened, answered their questions with patient smiles, and corrected their Valyrian pronunciation when the tutor arrived at the ninth hour. She never raised her voice. She never struck them. She had not struck a living soul since the day Aerys last put hands on her, and she intended never to do so again. These children would know gentleness, even if the world outside did not.

The days passed in careful rhythm.

Mornings belonged to lessons. The tutor—a thin, bespectacled man named Maegor who claimed no relation to the infamous king—was meticulous and patient. He taught history without the Targaryen gloss: the Doom, Valyria’s fall, the rise of the Free Cities, the Long Night, the Andals. He taught sums and letters, geography of the Narrow Sea, the names of Braavosi canals and the Titan’s watchwords. Rhaella sat nearby with embroidery or a book, listening quietly, occasionally correcting a date or a name with a soft word. She had been queen, but she had also been a girl educated by maesters; she remembered more than most gave her credit for, and she poured that knowledge into her children with quiet determination, determined they would be prepared for whatever future awaited them beyond these walls.

Afternoons were for the children to play. The walled courtyard behind the house was small but safe—high brick walls topped with broken glass set in mortar, a single iron gate that Lira kept locked at all times. There was a lemon tree in one corner, its leaves bright green against the grey stone, a patch of mint and rosemary for the cook, and a wooden swing hung from a sturdy beam. Viserys chased wooden swords against imaginary foes, shouting battle cries in broken High Valyrian. Rhaenys built castles out of pebbles and shells brought back from the docks, decorating them with bits of colored glass and pretending they were the towers of Old Valyria. Sometimes Rhaella joined them—sitting on the stone bench, skirts spread around her, letting them climb into her lap and ask endless questions about dragons, about the Red Keep, about the father they barely remembered and the brother still unborn when they fled. She answered what she could, turning painful memories into gentle stories, shielding them as best she could from the horrors that had brought them here.

Evenings were quiet. Supper—stew or fish or lentil pottage—then stories by the hearth. Rhaella told them tales of Old Valyria, of Balerion’s shadow over the Fourteen Flames, of the Doom that swallowed an empire in fire and ash. She never spoke of Summerhall, of the Trident, of the throne room where her husband burned men alive. Those memories were hers alone to carry, locked away so they would not poison her children’s dreams. Instead she spoke of wonder and strength, of dragons soaring over mountains, of heroes who endured.

Night came early in the canals. The servants retired to their quarters on the lower floor. Lira checked every lock, every shutter, her sharp eyes missing nothing. Rhaella tucked the children in—kisses on foreheads, soft Valyrian lullabies whispered until their breathing evened out—then returned to her own room. She did not sleep easily. She never had. Instead she sat by the window, shawl around her shoulders, and watched the dark water reflect the moon. Sometimes she wept silently—tears that left no mark, no sound, sliding down her cheeks and falling onto the windowsill. Sometimes she simply stared, wondering when he would come, wondering what kind of man would risk so much for a fallen queen and her children, wondering if he would ever step through that green door again.

Adian Frey had saved them.

She remembered the night with painful clarity. The secret passage beneath the Red Keep, the stench of smoke and fear thick enough to choke on, Ser Willem Darry’s cloak stained black with soot as he carried little Rhaenys in his arms and led Viserys by the hand. She had been eight months swollen with child, legs shaking with exhaustion and terror, certain every step would be her last, certain the wildfire would claim them all before they reached the water. The narrow stone corridor had felt like a tomb, the air hot and acrid, distant screams echoing from above as the city burned. Then the boat on Blackwater Bay—oars muffled with cloth, no lanterns, only the faint splash of water and the ragged breathing of the desperate. The larger ship waiting beyond the chain, its hull dark and anonymous against the night sky. A man in a hooded cloak had met them on deck. He had not spoken to her directly, only nodded once to Ser Willem and murmured something about “the debt being paid.” His voice had been low, calm, the kind of voice that gave orders without raising it. The ship sailed before dawn, slipping past the wreckage and the flames. When she woke the next morning they were already far out to sea, Braavos on the horizon like a promise she barely dared to believe.

The man had never come aboard again. But the servants had appeared in Braavos as if conjured—quiet, efficient, unquestioning. Rent paid years in advance through anonymous channels. A purse of gold left with Lira for emergencies. Instructions delivered by raven in plain, untraceable script: keep them safe, keep them hidden, keep them alive. No more. No explanations. No demands. Only the steady, invisible hand of a man who had reached across half the world to pull them from the fire.

Rhaella did not know why he had done it.

She had met Adian Frey only once—formally, years before, at some interminable court feast in the Red Keep. A minor lordling from the Twins, polite, watchful, forgettable among the sea of brighter banners and louder voices. He had bowed correctly, spoken a few courteous words, and faded into the background. Yet that same man had risked everything—gold, name, perhaps his life—to spirit the last Targaryens out of a city that wanted them dead. She did not understand it. She did not trust it. But she was alive because of it. Her children were alive because of it. The unborn child she had carried that night now slept safely in the next room. That was fact. Everything else was shadow.

So she waited.

Some nights she dreamed of dragons—Balerion’s shadow sweeping over the city, Vhagar’s scream splitting the sky, Caraxes’s blood-red scales flashing in firelight. She woke with tears on her cheeks and the phantom ache of wings she had never possessed, a hollow longing for a power that had burned away with her house. Other nights she dreamed of fire—not Aerys’s wildfire, but something colder, more deliberate. A man with dark hair and steady eyes watching her from across a burning room, his gaze calm amid the chaos. She always woke before she could see his face clearly, heart pounding, the ache in her chest sharper than any physical wound.

The children asked less often now. Viserys still spoke of “when Father comes back,” though the words had grown rote, like a prayer he no longer fully believed, his small voice tinged with doubt he tried to hide. Rhaenys had stopped asking about the Iron Throne; she asked instead about the Titan, about the canals, about whether the gulls had names and if they ever got tired of flying. Rhaella answered every question with patience she had not known she possessed, her voice steady even when her heart clenched at the innocence in their eyes.

Lira found her one evening standing at the window again, staring at the dark water as it reflected the scattered lanterns along the canal.

“He’ll come when it’s safe, Your Grace,” the older woman said quietly. She never used the title in front of the children, but here—alone—she allowed it, a small acknowledgment of who Rhaella had once been.

Rhaella did not turn.

“I know.”

“He’s a careful man. Cautious. The kind who plans years ahead.”

“I know.”

A pause. The canal water lapped softly against the quay, a gentle, endless rhythm.

“You think of him often,” Lira said—not accusing, simply observing, her voice carrying the weight of someone who had seen too many broken women waiting for absent men.

Rhaella’s fingers tightened on the sill, knuckles whitening.

“I think of the children. I think of tomorrow. I think of the day after. The rest… is noise.”

Lira nodded once, then withdrew without another word, the soft click of the door the only sound she left behind.

Rhaella stayed at the window until the moon crossed the narrow strip of sky visible between the rooftops. Somewhere far off a bell tolled the hour—eleven, perhaps midnight. She closed the shutter, latched it with careful fingers, and crossed to the bed. She did not undress. She simply lay down on top of the coverlet, hands folded over her stomach where the child had once kicked, where the ache of his absence still lingered like an old wound that refused to fully heal.

She closed her eyes.

And waited.

Tomorrow would come. Lessons, meals, stories, the same careful rhythm that kept them hidden and alive. The children would grow a little taller, ask a few more questions, learn a few more words of Valyrian. The servants would watch with quiet competence. The canal would flow on, black and endless, carrying secrets and barges and the faint hope of another day.

And one day—perhaps soon, perhaps years from now—the door would open.

A man with dark hair and steady eyes would step inside.

He would not bow. He would not kneel.

He would simply look at her and say, in that low, certain voice she remembered from a single meeting years ago:

“I told you I would keep you safe.”

And Rhaella Targaryen—once queen, now simply a mother in a rented house on a quiet canal—would finally exhale.

Until then, she waited.
