I realized I have a more systematic way to get feedback on things, so... a poll.

Warsmith Artificial Strength, yay, nay, or maybe?

Its in a strange place in my mind. Overall, I think its fine, but something hits at me that its an awkward feature. Swapping scores is fine from a balance perspective, but it doesn't really from a lore perspective. Well, I say that, but at the same time I totally get your lore blurb about dedicating parts of your mind to enhancing yourself. Maybe its just a phrasing issue? Doing something like "You may choose to dedicate a portion of your mental ability to controlling and enhancing your suit. You may choose to sacrifice ability points in your intelligence score to increase your strength up to a maximum of your unmodified intelligence score," might make it sit better in my mind.

Just brainstorming, but it feels like each kind of armor suit lends itself to a different narrative, which then tie into different stats. Warplate is the Iron Man type, the genius tinker who builds a machine to augment his fairly mundane physical capabilities. Artificial Strength, as it currently exists, makes the most sense here. It seems natural for an Int-primary build. Warsuit, as medium armor with lots of movement upgrades, seems more like a stealthy, super-spy operative. It would seem to fit more closely with a Dex primary, or an Int primary with a Dexterity version of Augmented Strength. Integrated Armor seems more of the type where I'd expect a Str primary. It gives off cyborg augmentation vibes, which would make sense to be used by a naturally strong character. I think it's pretty easy to narratively justify a not-so-super smart Warsmith; they're just the owner or pilot of the magitech, rather than the designer. They've learned enough about their to control it, modify it, even rebuild it if they need to, Or they're just not super-geniuses, not enough to become great wizards, but they're good enough to make some magitech to augment their already present natural talents.

I can agree with Spenser, mechanically and numbers-wise it seems fine but it also seems weird from design and lore. So I'm just going to spitball for a bit here. This is something to be used in Combat, but what is Int used for in Combat (the trade-off)? Spellcasting. Maybe instead of swapping the scores which is kind of clunky and awkward, some penalty to spellcasting, such as it takes your concentration, etc. But then we come back to the same original problem of "dump int pump str". This may be out of line, but some way to incorporate Int more into the features like instead of using Dex for the AC calculation of the armor, use Int? Or pull a bit from Shillelagh to have the choice of using Int for attack and damage on the gauntlet. These things to signify intelligent enhancements to the equipment (int) making them better rather than brute force (str) Full disclosure Warsmith is my least looked-at archetype in the Artificer so these may cause problems with other features or already handled, I'm just throwing stuff out there after a quick read-through :-)

I will let the poll run out, but I think it's likely I will scrap it from the feedback so far. I'll consider if i can think up something better, but I think this is one of those ideas where I think I've been more clever than I have been. This is why polls and feedback can helpful :) Will read further feedback and thoughts, but it seems we are back to the drawing board this time. This is sort of my last chance to make a big change to how Warsmith works as I don't think there will be another big change after 2.0, so I think I was reluctant to pass up giving it another pass, but overall I think this might have been too big a change; I focused on mechanically solving the problem, but that's not going to help if it leaves people feeling its a thematic miss.

I have some issues with the changes but, on the whole, I actually like the Artificial Strength feature and the intelligence and strength boosting upgrades. At first I was a bit concerned because you removed the innate strength boost that the armor used to give, but it seems like Sentient Armor is meant to fill this gap, and then Iron Muscle replaces Powered Limbs (but two levels later). My biggest issue is with all the prerequisites. It’s now quite expensive to get a projector or capacitor as a strength based Warsmith. Actually, despite the Virtual Interface upgrade it seems like it’ll be more difficult now to get a balanced strength/intelligence build. On the other hand the prerequisites do make it more clear what the intended progression paths are, so that’s something. I’d say keep Artificial Strength itself as is but just clean up the upgrades a bit.
