There is absolutely no confirmation whatsoever but this is what I think: Sirius has silver hair, purple eyes, elf-like ears and is in love with Petelguse. I believe she also chose her own family name to be Romanee-Conti to be more like Petelguse. I think it might just be Fortuna. How? No clue. But there's just too many things pointing in that direction for it to not be the case. However, I'm not quite sure why she would have a grudge against Emilia, to get that angry. Maybe Fortuna resented having to take care of Emilia to some extent? Or maybe she didn't like that Petelguse was so interested in Emilia (he kept asking if she was okay and so on) and either one of those feelings was amplified whenever she was turned into whatever she is now? Very mysterious. It would also thematically fit having Fortuna, someone so close and loved by Emilia, fight Emilia as it's something you wouldn't really expect or it would make for a really good twist from a writing perspective. Although, I have no way to actually prove any of this, so I really hope we find out eventually. Seeing Emilia fight was a surprise though, never thought she could fight so well. Seeing also Regulus be exactly like he was in the flashback, which supposedly happened about 100 years in the past, is interesting as he mentions here in this episode that he's a human. Not to mention his abilities are still very mysterious, as we saw back at the start of season 2, he doesn't seem to be affected by any attack whatsoever.

I also felt like Sirius has too many similarities to Fortuna, hope we learn some more about her

That was the first time that Subaru got to die 3 times in under 1 hour. And after a year-long break, no less. It's crazy how much he's grown to withstand such amounts of stress and force himself to keep going. The second death was arguably as morbid as the rabbits, if not worse from the psychological aspect. We don't even know if he died of suffocation, blood loss or fear. As for the "isn't affected by authorities", Authorities are the unique powers defying laws of the world, which are granted to those who bear a witch factor, for Betelguese it was Unseen Hand, gluttony's authority allows him to devour names and memories, Greed's authority is probably what makes him basically invincible, and so on. I wouldn't say the Archbishops hate Satella. At the very least, Betelguese seemed crazy in love with her. I believe Sirius' hatred was directed specifically at Emilia. Since her and Betelguese share the same name, they must be somehow connected. It seems that, since Betelguese went after Emilia to turn her into a vessel for Satella, which got him killed in the end, Sirius essentially blames Emilia for stealing his attention and causing his death. As for what exactly connects Sirius and Betelguese, a common theory is that Sirius is actually Fortuna. I have no idea how that would be possible, but they share some uncanny similarities: elf ears, silver hair, purple eyes... For a more action-oriented season, it sure is packed with lore and, as usual, we get more new questions than answers.

When Subaru was talking about finding someone not affected by “Authorities,” he basically meant finding someone not influenced by the Witches’ power. An Authority is essentially a power connected to one of the Witches. For example, the Unseen Hand is the Authority of Sloth, and Sirius is likely using her Authority of Wrath to brainwash people and link them together. Also, you asked why Subaru remembered Emilia dying when speaking to Rachins— it’s because he was likely about to tell Rachins more information than he should have. I don’t know exactly what he was going to say, but it was probably something like, “In less than five minutes, she’s going to kill everyone,” or something along those lines. Saying that would have triggered Satella to squeeze his heart, or maybe even kill Rachins for hearing about Return by Death. That’s why he changes his phrasing right after that flashback.

OMG!!! I noticed the silver hair but I thought "no way just a coincidence" 😱😱😱😱 so it might not be a coincidence and there is more to this!!!!!! please no not Fortuna!! 😭 but what you are saying makes a lot of sense I never even considered that Fortuna would be alive😱 was Fortuna's body frozen in ice too when Emilia froze the forest? we didn't see that.

SprinkleVerse

ohh!! that's what authorities are! 😲 wow so those abilities are all called witch factor, I only knew about the unseen hand since Subaru got it too. Thank you for explaining that part 💖

SprinkleVerse

Thank you for explaining the "Authorities" 🥰 I totally didn't get what they meant by that. I thought when the witch killed Emilia it was a one time thing to make Subaru even more miserable, I thought it's his heart that gets stopped whenever he talks about return by death. I see so that's not the case and other people who hear about it can also die 😱

Mel

Well, this is just my interpretation, and I could be wrong — things aren’t always explained clearly in the anime haha. Maybe the Witch can only kill Emilia and not anyone else. I just assumed she could kill whoever she wants, but even if she can’t, I don’t think Subaru knows that. He’d still try to be careful anyway so he doesn’t put others in danger. That’s probably why he saw that flashback. I’m also not completely sure why she killed Emilia that time. It could’ve been to make him miserable, but since Satella always says she loves Subaru, it’s hard to say why she’d want to do that. I’ve always thought she killed Emilia that one time as a sort of warning — like, “I can kill the ones you love, so keep your mouth shut.” type of deal.
