Yeah, the broken spine thing is a bit of a stretch. Though Tsukasa didn't damage any arteries or vital organs, which would mean that everything aside from the nervous system is still intact, severing the spinal cord would cause Senku's life functions to stop. We're not exactly sure how many minutes passed between Tsukasa killing Senku and Taiju and Yuzuriha using the revival fluid, but braincells become damaged after about 4 minutes of no oxygen. So unless it happenned that fast, Senku should have been braindead or woken up with some sort of disability or memory loss. But, at the end of the day, it's still anime, so not everything has to make sense.

Senku definitely took a risk with that neck thing. The revival fluid isn't perfect, since Yuzuriha foot had a bit of stone left. Yet when they used the fluid to recover her foot, Senku was already plotting science within this fantasy perfection. Trial and error, a scary thing to risk for the biscuit, yet it paid off.
