Yay! Re:Zero time! I’m at a high school reunion right now, but I can’t wait to watch it tomorrow!

I didn't want to think it was true, but it really turned out that Reid was so strong that even if Roy ate his memories, he just took over Roy anyways, because he's just that strong. I wonder what happened to Beatrice that she just disappeared like that into Satella's black mist thing, not to mention the fact that it's still unknown how Satella is free or what is going on with her appearing. It is clear however, that this Satella isn't just in Subaru's mind and it's very real, by the fact that Reid comments on it, saying that a real pain in the ass has showed up. You'd think that comment was about Shaula at first, but clearly it was about Satella. I knew there was a fifth rule. I just knew there had to be because of the way she said it the first time. Not only that, but we get confirmation that if someone breaks a rule, Shaula transforms. Not that we needed it, but it's nice to have a clear confirmation. I do also feel super bad for Shaula. It's quite clear that she loves Subaru (or Flügel if you want to be really honest) and seeing her like that, waiting for 400 years and crying because she didn't want him to go away after clearing the trials, it was just heartbreaking. She's barely been around for a season but she really feels like a part of the group. I truly hope Subaru manages to save her somehow. Otherwise it would be just too cruel. And so, we go back to Reid and Roy. Since Reid was clearly dead before and the one we see during the exam is like a spirit or something, he intentionally let Roy eat him to gain a physical body. Since Gluttony constantly refers to themselves as "we", meaning they are constantly confused about who is in charge of the body they are in, it makes sense that such a strong presence like Reid would be able to take the leading role in controlling his body. And since he now has Roy's body, he also has his memories (which makes me wonder if he also has the abilities of the people Roy had eaten before, as demonstrated in season 3). It's also cool to see Subaru deliberately use Return by Death to collect information to overcome the situation we're in. He didn't go this far back in season 1, at least not dying intentionally to restart (only a few times) and after that he learned a lesson from the Witches that he should treasure himself more and only use it whenever there's really no hope left. He never really killed himself multiple times in a row like this, so it's kind of refreshing to see him use it the most basic way anyone would. Seeing Subaru be sad about everyone dying before him while he keeps sacrificing himself over and over again without hesitation really brings it all back together with the lessons Witches taught him. It's like I'm watching season 1 or 2 again, I love it. And just as the lesson said, Subaru is also worth being in the group that he should save. He should save himself. It's clear that dying over and over like that isn't good for his mental health (Greed IF, anyone?). Him trembling like that reminds me a lot of season 1, when he tried to earn the trust of Ram and Rem in the mansion. He just kept pushing himself over and over constantly, while ignoring his own stability. I guess the end confirms that he really did have his book. It's interesting to note that his book is written in Kanji and not in the language of the Re:zero world. So if anyone else got transported here from our world, their book would also probably be in a different language. I think this might become important at some point. It's also worth noting that he sensed the book through the ability he got. His color and his book's color both were the same gray, his light was bigger and the book was smaller. I wonder if this specific way of using the ability will also become useful later, rather than just only sensing people around him? And this is the part where I come clean mostly about what I learned from the opening. If you aren't interested, that's fine, you can stop reading here, as this is mostly my own thoughts and not something that could relate to events happening in the show. The opening starts with a book that's going through it's pages as Subaru's memories play over it. I'm sure it's obvious to see now that it's Subaru's book that we see here, but more than that we see a tree growing as well, while the book is flipping through the memories. Now, this might be a confirmation of the fact that Subaru is Flügel or something like that, but I have no idea. Almost everything else we see in the opening we've already learned, however, the scene where it shows past Subaru's deaths is probably showing Newbaru experiencing reading his book. This might just be a cool callback to his past deaths and him still deciding to push on, but regardless, I'd like to kind of see Newbaru's reaction to all that Subaru has gone through previously. At the very end of the opening, you see the same book from the start flipping through memories and before Rem appears on the screen, we see the book close. It has letters from Re:zero's world on it (not Kanji). It reads "Natsuki Subaru" (I used a fan-made translator to translate it). I'm sure that this was probably a mistake on the part of the animators who made the opening, but it could also be intentional, to conceal the information that this is Subaru's book from the Japanese viewers.

This episode has such a different tone compared to the others. Subaru has died 17 times! The same amount as in seasons 1 and 2 combined! It just goes to show how dire the tower situation is, with Subaru having to brute force the solution through trial and error. When I first started Re:Zero, I thought the respawn gimmick would go in this direction a lot sooner. But I’m really glad the author made every loop significant and put a lot of weight on every reset. Thanks to that, the current situation shows an incredible contrast between Natsuki Subaru and “Natsuki Subaru”’s approach. Not to mention, the loop with Shaula was the first time Subaru treated a loop as a throwaway from the start. He knew he wouldn’t solve it, he decided to sacrifice the current life to gather information. I really loved the balcony scene. They dropped some hints to her loneliness and dependence in between all the comedic moments, that a lot of people probably overlooked or dismissed, because of Shaula’s general attitude. And they’ve been setting up a massive gut punch that was this episode. I really hope they can take Shaula with them once they clear the tower. And finally, the book… Everyone thought about that possibility the moment we got introduced to the library. The overarching theme of memories and death, the subtle foreshadowing like Subaru’s talk with Meili in episode 5 or the scene in the opening, it was all pointing to this moment. All I’m going to say is that the next episode adapts my favorite chapter of the whole series. I am beyond excited! As far as technical information goes, the next episode is titled “Natsuki Subaru”, it’s gonna be extended to 26 minutes, with both EP and ED skipped.

That's it!!! That's what Subaru missing! Thank you for the reminder, the lesson he learned from the witches, to learn to love himself and not just throw his life like that. maybe now after reading his own book he will regain those feelings again if not the full memories and that will help him make better decisions. I thought his new ability can only sense people that's why I thought if it's Reid or Gluttony, I didn't know also that he can see himself! OMG! I love that part at the end you explaining the opening!! I didn't pay much attention to it but I just watched it and I think you are right!!! it's really fun and interesting to see hidden things in the opening and only realise them once finished watching the show 😆 Thank you again for all the info 💖

I'm so excited for the next episode! I want to see how this Subaru without memories will handle his own memories.
