There is a lot to cover this episode, so I'll try to keep it as short as I can. First off, how would you even recognize your own handprint? It looks like any other to me, but for Emilia to recognize one of the handprints as her own seems quite odd to me. Volcanica mentions Flügel, Reid, Shaula and Farsale. As we already know, this was a place where Satella was sealed. It had tests related to Flügel, Reid and Volcanica and Shaula was protecting it. It's safe to say, all of them traveled together. Having Emilia's handprint on the tablet there and Volcanica calling Emilia Satella would also allude to the fact that Satella was also probably traveling with them. So the handprints most likely belong to Volcanica, Flügel, Reid, Shaula, Farsale and Satella. It's also interesting how they are using Satella and the Witch of Envy here separately, as Volcanica sees Emilia as Satella but only enrages once the name Witch of Envy is brought up. The fact that they are using those two names separately from eachother helps confirm more of the double personality theory, where Satella was the good personality and the Witch of Envy was bad. Volcanica even says "Satella, thou hast been reduced to the Witch of Envy. We must stop thee." which would confirm this even more. My best guess would be that they sealed the Witch of Envy in the tower and Satella got to be reborn as Emilia. (It also would kind of explain why she keeps constantly using such old phrases all the time.) Seeing Emilia in action is still super cool, the more we see of her, the stronger she seems. To go toe-to-toe with Volcanica can't be easy. The bigger question about this part of the fight was though, how did Volcanica know Patrache? Since he traveled with Flügel, I'm guessing Flügel named a similar ground dragon also Patrache? Since Subaru is considered to be Flügel, we can assume he did similar actions because he is who he is. We saw this with Amnesiabaru where he used similar words and phrases or did similar things as his (real) past self, so I believe that's a good telltale sign of Flügel being a past version of Subaru or something like that. It could even be that Subaru somehow managed to find a way to travel to the past and Emilia took the name Satella, Subaru took the name Flügel and they took Patrache and Shaula with them. It's a bit confusing but it could make sense. The thumbs up from the ice Subaru lol I wonder what Emilia did though, I feel like they didn't explain it enough. Did Volcanica defeat all of the mabeasts attacking the tower? They did talk about destroying the trials of the tower, so it could be that she stopped those and the rules that were imposed on Shaula. I'm just a bit confused on how her wish of wanting everyone to get along would do that. I didn't quite understand what Joseph (Julius' ground dragon) had to do with anything, but someone told me that Subaru possibly used Joseph as someone to share Meili's pain with, as he was already pretty exhausted himself and that's why he apologized to him later. It was sad to see Shaula and Subaru technically say goodbye, but I'm glad we managed to save Shaula to some extent. She deserved to be free of the tower. Such a beautiful moment. Turns out, everyone now remembers Emilia, but not Julius and Rem. More on Rem later. Turns out, Julius captured Roy. In a spell similar that was used to seal Satella no less. (It's pretty telling that Satella was sealed with shadow magic, the affinity Subaru has and with Shamak no less; so if it's true, Julius here took inspiration from Flügel-Subaru lol) Since this magic was used to seal Satella and we know Satella was also sealed in the tower, I wonder what the seal in the elf forest was for? I also wonder what's up with Rui and how she managed to appear in the tower, considering how she wasn't supposed to have a physical form. Then again, she did show up at the end of the 3rd season, I wonder how? But more importantly, Satella appears again. I'm not quite sure what Volcanica did here either but I think Volcanica might have saved Subaru from Satella. We also get to see one of those creepy white birds again. It's clear that they are watching, but are they watching Subaru or the tower? It's odd that the bird would fly away from the tower as soon as Subaru was teleported away. Did they achieve some kind of goal? Was it waiting for Satella to return instead? So many mysteries. Speaking of birds, we see one fly over Subaru as he wakes up. Coincidence? Maybe. Regardless, an unknown amount of time has passed and we have no idea where we are. Rem is there, but what happened to Rui? Rui was next to Subaru when he was being engulfed in Satella's shadow, just like Rem was. Speaking of Rem, she's finally awake, but doesn't remember Subaru. This kinda makes sense though, as both her memories and her name were eaten. Since everyone didn't remember Rem, could it be that the memories Rui threw out in Od Lagna are still there, but the name that was inside Lye came back to Rem? So essentially she regained one of the two parts of herself that were eaten. What an amazing end to a season though, I hope the next one comes soon because there are still so many questions and mysteries left. I also hope you enjoyed reading my ramblings and I was able to give maybe a differing viewpoint or an idea or a theory. Ask me any questions you might have and I'll do my best to answer them! Thank you for reading! 💖😊

Volcanica mistaking Emilia as Satella is one thing. But how the hell does he know Patrasche?! Welcome to another “random thing that happened and will probably not be explained in the next 15 years, so we can only theorize”! Honestly, the only thing that comes to my mind is that Subaru and Flügel really are the same person, or at least have awfully similar knowledge. When Subaru was given Patrasche before his fight against the White Whale, he named her after a dog from the 1872 novel “A dog of Flanders”. Could it be that Flügel also had a ground dragon of the same breed, and also called it Patrasche? Now what’s interesting… In episode 2, they said that the sandstorms are caused by the periodic shifts in the warped space surrounding the tower. After Emilia cleared the trial, a sandstorm appeared, and the clouds obstructing the tower’s top were dispersed. Does that mean the barrier is now gone and anyone can make it to the tower? I like how Subaru involved even Joseph in the final battle, by using Cor Leonis to transfer Meili’s fatigue and pain onto him. We love you, Joseph, but that’s payback for getting us killed twice at the beginning of the season! It was really heartbreaking to see Shaula turn to dust. When I first read it, I was sure it was gonna be the first permanent death in the series. And it’s still sad, knowing that we won’t be able to talk to her for a long time, but there’s still some hope for a reunion in the future. Subaru was absolutely devastated, because what happened to Shaula was striking his biggest fear - not being able to save someone. She was the only person except Rem whom he failed to save. Honestly, I understand why he wouldn’t say “I love you” back. I mean, he rejected Rem in season 1 for a reason. His heart is already taken. Not just that, but it’s similar to how he wouldn’t tell Beatrice that he’s “that person”. It didn’t feel right. He doesn’t see himself as her master. He feels guilty for being mistaken as Flügel. So he can’t respond to a confession directed at someone else. I’m gonna miss her human form, but at least, with Meili around, she’s gonna be taken care of. I wonder if Otto could communicate with her. After all, his Divine Protection Works on mabeasts too… Yeah, I don’t think killing Roy would bring back Julius’ name. I’m more inclined to believe that Emilia’s name returning had more to do with Lye throwing up all the memories than with his death itself. Now, Rem’s situation is even more strange. She regained her consciousness, but both her name and memories are still gone. But then why? Did it have to do with Lye’s defeat, or Rui manifesting? If it’s the former, why didn’t she wake up immediately? Because Ram exhausted her by connecting to her horn? That doesn’t really add up… Subaru 3 episodes ago: I won’t save you. And I don’t feel sorry for you. Subaru the moment Rui is unconscious and defenseless: *stops to help her* That’s why he’s an amazing guy, I suppose. So, what actually happened there at the end? I highly doubt they’re gonna explain it in the anime, and even if they do, it’ll be in a few years, so… I have absolutely no idea why Rui appeared there. It hasn’t been explained in the novels to this day. But, if Subaru’s assumption from episode 17 is correct, it was because of her that Satella appeared. Because Rui knows about Return By Death. But why are they in a different place now? Remember the end of episode 2, when Subaru and Beako used EMT and accidentally opened a tear in space after their spell nullified the space warping magic surrounding the tower? Something similar happened here. You see, shadow magic is often used for space manipulation. Like Beako and Subaru’s spells, her Door Crossing etc. Obviously, Satella’s magic attribute is shadow. So, when Volcanica shot that beam to defend against her, it dispersed her shadow and opened another tear in space. Although, since the scale of it was a lot larger this time, instead of getting sent to an underground tunnel nearby, they got sent completely somewhere else. Where exactly? Now, that would be a spoiler. All I’m gonna say is Season 5 is gonna have the best world building in Re:Zero! I love how we had to wait 10 years for Rem to wake up, and now we’re gonna wait like 3 years for the story to continue. The next season isn’t coming as soon as this one, since season 4 was already in production along with the 3rd one. Plus, the arc season 5 will adapt is by far the longest arc of Re:Zero. So expect it around 2029 to 2030. Man, just thinking about the wait makes me depressed! That being said, I’ve really enjoyed watching this season with you, and I hope in a few years I’ll be watching you react to season 5! In the meantime, I’ll stick around for other series and movies. Thank you for being a great vtuber and an incredibly sweet person!

So, remember how in season 3, Lye got his ass whooped by the dragon staff and before Dynas could finish him off, he disappeared and they were attacked by Rui? It appears that despite Rui being stuck in the Hall of Memories, her brothers have a connection to her. Essentially, she took over his body to save him from getting killed and used Solar Eclipse to appear as herself. So she can exist in the physical form, but only while inside someone, just like she did with Amnesiabaru. But that still doesn’t explain how she manifested now…

DecoMorreno

Wait. I actually have a theory. Remember when we last saw Rui? Her other half got traumatized by the memories of Return by Death and the original one attacked her for gatekeeping the memories. If the original Rui ate the copy’s name and memories, would that make her disappear? Or would it leave her as an empty vessel…?

Tarvo27

I figured that might be the case but wasn't sure, as you said, it wouldn't explain what happened here. Thanks for the info! That is an interesting theory though, it could be possible. There's clearly something that happened between then that we didn't see so....

Tarvo27

I thought about the tower possibly being accessible to everyone as well, and if it's true, this might be a big problem in the future. Not only is Satella sealed there (as far as we know), there's also the library which holds an incredible amount of knowledge. I'm sure Volcanica can probably protect it to some extent, but I don't think that's his job, so he might not do that. Those birds might have been waiting for that to happen too. I still don't trust those birds...

I literally was thinking that while watching the start of the episode, how can you know your handprint? lol but I thought this is anime so I ignored it 😆 double personality! that makes sense I didn't think of that. Ikr!!!! Patrache was the biggest surprise for me!! OMG I was thinking what if Patrache herself was also somehow in the past 😱 Thank you so much for all the explanations and extra info! Re:Zero fries my brain sometimes and can't even remember all my questions lol so having all this explanation really helps me gather my thoughts 😂

SprinkleVerse

Volcanica recognising Patrache was the biggest surprise lol Thank you so much for all the info and answers! you guys help me a lot with understanding Re:Zero better and opening my mind to lots of possibilities ~\(≧▽≦)/~ 💖

2026-10-04 15:00 No problem! It’s always fun to discuss and theory craft here! One thing that I remembered today about Parrasche… When Subaru was taken to pick himself a land dragon for the white whale fight, he came across Patrasche and she instantly leaned into his hand and was friendly. Even Felix was surprised, saying how this breed of dragons is known for being super prideful and difficult to tame. Could it have something to do with the mystery…? I swear, Tappei just drops these random hints everywhere! How much foreshadowing is there in the earlier seasons that we haven’t realized?
