As a professional GM running paid games on a web site, would I be able to use this or the upcoming splash art for listings of those games? If so would i include the watermark and/or a link to this patreon somewhere in the listing text?

Czepeku

You can use them as splash art as long as they're clearly watermarked, that's fine. :)

Asha Ence

May maps and scenes be cropped in commercial products to "zoom in" for details and better fit layout or do they have to be shown in their entirety? Thanks!

Daniel Chapman

I love your maps, but I am afraid that I just noticed this clause "Nor to be used in any product or by any company that also uses NFTs or AI art in any of their other products or actively supports their use in any way." I disagree with you in the long term, but accept that currently the subject is a bit murky. With newer tools such as Adoby's Firefly and others whose models are known to be ethically generated, I hope that the field will lose its stigma. But I am not an artist, at least not a good one. (I've done a few of my own covers). But I am an AI programmer, so my bias is what it is. Your art remains gorgeous and I appreciate what you've done, and I always enjoy seeing your pieces in adventures written by fellow amateur authors publishing on DM'S Guild.

Dean Graham

Hello! Can you help me understand what this means for digital and/or print versions of adventures published on DriveThruRPG or DMSGuild? "The commercial licence is available to all of our active patrons." Should I interpret this to mean we have to pull the items from the store if we stop being a patron?

A.L. VanTol

Hi, I was under the thought process for the commercial use license for these (before I pledged) that we could print out what I assumed to be watermarked physical copies and sell those at, say, a game convention. I'm not the business degree partner, so I wanted to make sure whether or not I was correct in that before I printed out copies to sell and use my own money for that...

Masque D. Justice

there is absolutely nothing ethical about putting people out of work en mass.

Ryan Haden

To confirm, this is absolutely not the intention of our commercial license. It is to allow creatives to use our maps or scenes within their adventures. None of our products are available for re-sale/printing by anybody other than us.

A.L. VanTol

Yup, I had a business major friend read through it again and point that out

Czepeku

Also, I realise today it is April Fools but this is actually a thing now, not a joke. :p

Marta Ostili

I thought it was a joke and panicked ahah I was waiting this for over an year almost! Can't wait to print them all! :) That you again! One question: there will be a limit to that tier's slot?

Czepeku

Hi Marta, just replied to your message. For anyone else that sees this question: this tier will have unlimited slots.

Jean-Philippe Encausse

That's a very good idea ! I'm working on a tool (without business model, just have fun) but it's very good to know you setup a comercial license

Hanna Reinhart

Super useful. Thanks for putting this together!

Czepeku

Hey Jean, I saw your post on Twitter! Really like what you're creating.

Lukaluke

So, a clarification: If you are using our maps for streaming purposes only we expect the rules under 'CREDIT' to still be adhered and we expect you to be a patron of the tier of maps you're using whilst streaming the maps. For example, if you are using our $5 tier maps on your stream, we expect you to be a $5 patron whilst your video content is online. So, if I had a video taken of a session I ran where it showed up, would I have to maintain my patreon status as long as the video was live on say, YouTube? Or do you mean for newly created videos?

Czepeku

Ideally we'd like you to be a patron as long as the maps are live on YouTube. But to be honest unless you're a big company making a lot of money off our maps we don't really mind. :) We're not looking to police streamers, we're just glad people are out there using our maps. This licence was mainly for creators selling our work as products on DMs Guild/DTRPG. I wouldn't worry about it!

Johnn & Jochen

Hi, the license mentions being able to use maps for commercial purposes while subscribed to the commercial tier. If I were stop supporting that tier, say, a year from now, I assume all commercial uses up that point are still valid? For example, a map in a book. I am not required to remove that map from he book already in distribution?

Czepeku

Yeah that's right. I can't expect people to remove these at a later date but once you move down from the $20 tier you can't continue making new products with the maps. Perhaps i should reword it a little for clarity.

Lukaluke

That's fair, just wanted to check. Thanks!

Cezar Capacle

Excellent! I’m writing an RPG based entirely around the use of battle maps. With this license, would it be OK to use some of your maps as the cover art and interior art? And could I crop part of the image to use it inside and show details?

Czepeku

Yes that'd all be fine!

Ian James

Really dumb question, but how do you *pronounce* your Patreon name?

Czepeku

Chay (rhymes with bay) and Peck-oo (peck like a bird, oo rhymes with shoe). :)

Matt Faltesek

Thanks for spelling out the details of this generous license! It will definitely enable a lot of projects to come to life. One question: Do you have an established policy on people using your maps as part of modules for Roll20 or Fantasy Grounds?

Czepeku

We need to write up a section for VTT modules, but generally the same rules apply, on the store/marketplace page you have to credit us and link to our patreon. And do the same within the module. As well as using only watermarked versions of the maps. Hope that helps!

Shockhazard

Hey, what is your stance of using your maps in video games? With credits, linking users here to this site etc.? This ofc with patreon access. Maybe case by case basis? Not that I have big plans, but for hobby projects that might be sold commercial if I ever made it that far?

Czepeku

It would have to be on a case-by-case basis. Feel free to message me through Discord with what you have in mind.

Kyle Shaw

Hi there, Does this apply to paid DM sessions? For example, if I use your Battlemaps in VTT platforms with players from a paid service (like startplaying.games), do I need this license? Thanks! Fantastic maps, just want to make sure I do things right.

Czepeku

No you don't need to do that. Using them in your private games (even if they're paid) is fine with us. :) If you do have a chance to tell people about our maps, we're always happy with shoutouts!

Czepeku

This is for commercial use, so if you're writing an adventure to sell on DMs Guild or DriveThruRPG, you can use our maps in your adventure but it has to be accompanied by at least 1000 words. That's the stop someone just making PDF books of all our maps without any accompanying content.

Cameron Craig

Appreciate the updates and your clear and to the point stances on AI images and NFTs. Keep being awesome! 💙
