Hello everyone! I hope you enjoy my detailed psychological analysis of Your Lie in April, episode 5! My theories are in, and more foreshadowing confirms my speculations...

My main takeaways from this episode

1) We need meaningful social engagement to tap into a co-regulation state (Polyvagal theory)

2) Music is freedom, and a novelty that is larger than any single one of us

3) Kousei is healing, symbolized by the grey sky and other progress shown, while Kaori is dying...Another powerful stark contrast, a theme throughout the series (I am hurting while typing this)

Also, do you enjoy me sharing quotes that I relate to the episode, or my takeaway points? Let me know in the comments below~

Happy Monday, everyone!

So early on I think you meant bulimia. That’s not what’s going on with Kaori. Her primary hospital problem was anemia - low red blood cell count, not enough cells to transport oxygen throughout her body. That’s why she was short of breath and fatigued by climbing the stairs in episode 2 and fainted after their performance. Never normal for a young person and always an indicator of a more serious illness. So as for your predictions, reconnect to your own yapping in your episode 2 reaction at 40:30 . And that comment is often associated with…? Which just so happen to be present when Kousei meets Kaori at the end of episode 1 and episode 2. The symbolism’s been under your nose the whole time. “Flowers are only flowers because they fall.” Lady Mariko, “Shōgun”

The Bridge of Bravery represents Japanese traditions of tests of courage. It’s an anime trope to jump off a “bridge of Bravery” to prove one’s courage that is most often seen in coming of age stories. For example in “A Silent Voice” that’s what Shoya and his friends were doing in his youth flashback and that scene is used to contrast the courage he had as a carefree youth versus the fear he grew to live with. So the first scene is meant to show that when he was little, before his mother passed, Kousei was brave. But due to his trauma he is afraid again. Again, one jumps off the bridge to prove their courage - to overcome fear. Meaning only those with doubts would jump from a Bridge of Bravery. We’re drawn to Kousei because we know he is afraid and in need of courage. And Kaori inspires him jump and prove his courage. And this is done to cover up the darker truth. Kaori needed to test her bravery. She jumped because she is afraid. Kaori waited for Kousei because he gives her the courage she needs. “That’s how you make the most beautiful lie.” -Kao “Do you really think you can forget” -Kao “There’s no way I could ever forget!” -Kou “I’m a musician.” -Kou Our boy’s finally acknowledging his identity as a musician! The writing is 🔥 in this series. Who can truly relate to musical prodigies? But everyone can relate to being afraid. Everyone gets inspired seeing the bravery of others.

Ahhh hang on I think you got it mixed up, anemia is an illness where you have naturally low levels of blood in your blood (red blood cells), thus making your blood pressure low and leading to fatigue and so on. I forget the name of what you're discussing but it's different!

I have noticed the audio of the series is not always in perfect sync with the mic recording, depending on the episode, which leads to unfortunate audible artifacts. It would probably work better if you'd use headphones to listen to the episode while recording, which would eliminate potential issues like that.
