Hello, Patreon family! Please enjoy my detailed analysis of the Apothecary Diaries Season 2, Episode 17. I am running out of creative ways to describe how much my mind is blown in each of the last few episodes, and especially episode 16 and 17...How is this possible?!

My main takeaways from the episode

1) Is the fox village the last surviving village of the Mother Royal bloodline, as I analyzed and suspected in the recording?!

2) Did Shishou sanction Suirei and Loulan's actions, and some of the previous attempted assassinations, given the major plot-twist reveal that they are sisters?

3) Do you view Loulan's behaviors, including approaching Maomao with her alternative motive and teaming up with Suirei to kidnap her, as anti-social, or can you not answer because that would be spoilers??

All my main takeaways this week, as you see, are more questions about the plot and where the second half of the series is heading toward...So many questions!!

Hope you have a great week, and until next week~

Back in season 1 "Homecoming" I think this episode somewhat explains Luomen's reaction when Maomao returned home. "I can only do what I can." I'm sure he missed Maomao deeply but he understands his limitations. I believe he also said that line to Jinshi to give him a bit of motivation. I'm ready for Jinshi's further character development 👀. I must warn you, nearly every episode after this is going to be 🤯 after 🤯 after 🤯.

It's super meaningful for them to know and realize that it is out of maomao's character to not be responsible for someone's well being like Gyokou and being her food taster. Since normally for someone in a similar position they would just be labeled a traitor and "off with their head". It's amazing to see how all these little episodes were actually building blocks to the bigger plot all along. Seeing the little sweat going down Jinshi's face shows how much this is affecting him as well, and Gaoshoan as one of his primary caretakers his whole life knows what he needs to keep him calm. Luomen knowing exactly what happened goes back to Maomao saying that he can deduce 10 things from 1 piece of evidence. You are combining Hansel & Gretel and LIttle Red Riding Hood as far as nursery rhymes <3. Plus them focusing on him making the fist is another way of showing he is doing everything in his power to keep control and be the face of Jinshi everyone expects him to be. We can not answer any questions about the Loulan/Shushi/Suirei/Shishou situation, all will be revealed over the rest of the season, but I will say there is a reason why we did keep saying be prepared to be on the edge of your seat for the rest of the season. All I can say we talk about Lakan playing 4D chess, the author is playing 360D chess with how many long term moves they have in even the smallest of details. Your reaction at the end makes me laugh because we did try to let you know Season 2 somehow someway is 1000% better than Season 1 and Season 1 was better than alot of other shows out there with how and what it covers. So the fact that the best is yet to come is just mindblowing.

You seeing sociopathy in Shisui is a somewhat rare take I think… but not out of line. She is always smiling and being cute/quirky and IT WORKS ON A LOT OF US, but she can have that demeanor while doing all manner of capital crimes. I think you will add nuance to your opinion, but I don’t know whether you’ll completely reneg.

It’s so awesome to witness you enjoying the ride….thank you so much Benoit 🙏

The Best Western equivalent I can think of for that quote would probably be "Two heads are better than one" As far as how season 2 goes from here on out, you're going to need a neck brace with how many double takes you'll be doing. 😴

I think you are interpreting too much into the alcohol that Maomao had. She took a few bottles as disinfectant for the Jade Pavillon. It was just quick thinking that she could use some of the alcohol to butter the old lady up. It was never her intention to do that because she normally would have gone straight to the Jade Pavillon to use the alcohol there. It's just her curiosity that made her go to the clinic after hearing about the previous warning posters.

It's funny that you mentioned how the author ties together past situations and events with episodes that take place much later. I haven't read the novels, but I read that there are things that happened in Season 1 of the anime that will be relevant all the way through a hypothetical Season 5, to me, that's on another level!

Still peaking....to be honest I can't imagine what we get for season 3. I mean if we actually get to the peak, then where do we go from there?

Faey

I for one think that her cheerfull and quirky personality is her true side. But she can also be cruel if she needs to. I blame her parents for that.

"what's going on?" oh man. just you wait.

Plus Luomen delivered Jinshi, Gaoshun had to have known that. It adds another component to their trust! He's also a member of the La clan-that can never be forgotten. He taught the strategist. Hansel & Gretals' stepmother led them deep into the forest and left them there because she hated the children of another wife. But Hansel was leaving a trail of breadcrumbs on the trail so they could find their way back home!
