Hello, Patreon family! Please enjoy my detailed analysis of the Apothecary Diaries Season 2, Episode 22. Rejoice everyone! Maomao's Great Wall of China has finally toppled, and Moon Frog Prince Ka is reunited with his favorite apothecary! What an episode this was!!!

My main takeaways from the episode

1) I am still distraught about the children being poisoned and likely dead, not simply a poison-induced coma, and how war truly is a destroyer of all things

2) Moon Frog Prince Ka's decision to allow the Royal Guard to sneak attack on the stronghold must not be underestimated because this is counter-cultural to the nth degree; will there be backlash from the military or palace afterward??

3) The similarities between Shisui and Maomao are striking and equally heartbreaking, which is why Shisui made up her mind to sacrifice herself as a "martyr" to repay her sins

I cannot wait but also have no idea what is in store for the final two episodes. Happy new week, everyone, and until next week~

24:58 in the original source, I think Jinshi thinks something like "She looks like her cousin, but I don't like men" lmao 28:50 I like that you can tell that even though Gaoshun doesn't always agree with Jinshi, he never makes a face or shows any annoyance, tact at its finest. 48:20 In the light novel, she not only recognizes him but also notices several details of his armor and asks herself, “Why did I notice him specifically?” Furthermore, instead of thinking it’s impossible for Jinshi to be here, she actually thinks, “Did he come for me? Nah, no way.” lmao 49:52 Besides that, I'd like to add something: has Maomao ever asked anyone for help with something important? And I'll go even further, has she ever asked for or wanted someone to protect her? Hmm... 54:20 I don't know if this sounds insensitive, if so, I apologize, but the number of times you change your mind about whether the children are dead or not is a little funny.

These set of episodes 21-24 I cry every single time because the amount of trauma and so many people being hurt from circumstances they couldn't control it's just amazing to see that even though you might come from different places in life it doesn't mean that you are that different of people in the end. It's your circumstances and trauma that can help bond you to people you may never have even met otherwise. The writing is just so devastatingly brilliant in the reality that it is so true what they are showing and depicting in a set of ways you wouldn't see otherwise. This is why I'm always looking for more people to watch and discuss this show with because there is so many things that need to be discussed in a more open way instead of being swept under the rug that would help people not feel so alone.

Devastatingly beautiful, wonderfully said!! AD truly is an A1 show and a category of one

We'll get more Lahan in Season 3.

The thing about Lakan and is back is way funnier in the book. The strategy meeting was during their travel in a carriage and not in front of the stronghold. And Lakan jumped out after the meeting while the carriage was still going. That's why he has now problems with his back. He was too eager to save Maomao.

I think Shisui took those abortion drugs not knowing if she was pregnant or not. She was assuring that she wouldn't get pregnant.

Did you notice in the initial charge: the first two that make strikes with a sword were Basen and then Lahaken. Two of Jinshi's most trusted soldiers. Basen because he grew up with Jinshi and is his best friend and sparring partner-also a member of the Ma Clan-designated protectors of the royal line. Lahaken became one after the whole "20000 silver" for his wife incident and saving them from the cave with the dog.

Just a small detail from the light novel that might help before the end of Season 2. Don’t worry, this isn’t a plot spoiler. It’s just the anime shorten the explanation about slavery and made one line sound more confusing than it was. I know because I was confused when I first heard it. When they said enslaved people were treated “similarly to pleasure district courtesans”. They didn’t mean every enslaved person was being used for sex, that’s where I got a little confused. They were comparing how the two systems worked. Basically, an enslaved person could eventually earn their freedom after working long enough to repay the price paid for them or after completing a set term of service. The problem was that those rules only protected them inside the country of Li. The Empress Regnant had banned selling enslaved people to foreign countries because once they were taken outside Li’s borders, there was no guarantee they would ever be freed. However, certain powerful families continued doing it anyway because the foreign slave trade had been part of their family business for a long time. The light novel and manga explain this much better, and it also adds some important context to why the rear palace was expanded. I won’t mention the characters involved or explain anything else yet because that would be a HUGE spoiler. I just wanted to clear up that one line before the next episode because the anime made it sound like all the enslaved people were being treated as sex slaves when that wasn’t necessarily what it meant.

The foreshadowing is CRAZY

I can't believe Mao Mao gave away the one gift Jinshi wanted her to keep haha. I mean, that's some solid silver, I bet it could stop a bullet!
