Sabermetrics has served to eliminate the market inefficiency that was forever centered around OBP. OBP is now fairly valued but a lot of times at the expense of defense. With the lack of emphasis on defense and the general “3-run HR” approach to offense, do you think that there is a now a measurable and opportunistic market inefficiency towards signing the now undervalued contact and speed guys that will in turn exploit the weakened defense by making greater contact and pressuring the defense with speed on the bases?

I am not sure if this has been asked before, but, If and or when the robotic strike zone is adopted, assuming it is adopted with a high degree of accuracy for determining balls and strikes, what effect if any do you think it will have on the game? Will this improve pitchers statistics or hitters statistics? Will we see a higher strikeout percentage or walk percentage? Or will everything remain somewhat the same after an initial adjustment period?

Samuel Berman

What’s up with C.J. Cron? Is he bad? Is he good? Is he only good in Coors? I can’t figure him out.

Ethan

What would be your all-time team made up of players that you've made a video on?

Luis Ángel Amparo

Can you do a little explaining of some defensive stats (the ones you consider more important in order to assess defensive value)? Which ones are better for IFs, which ones are better for OFs? What do you think about OAA? Just anything you want to point out about defensive stats. Hope you're doing well, and keep the good work!

Carter young

What is your honest opinion on Derek Jeter? Growing up I always looked at him being very elite, but just recently I looked at his stats and it doesn’t seem like he should’ve been one vote off from being the second unanimous Hall of Famer. Is this just the yankee effect or what?

Ballah

I always enjoy your insights on the Minor Leagues. One of the most watched games in Oklahoma City’s (Dodgers AAA) minor league history was a rehab game for Kershaw. 3rd most watched game in the history of the ballpark for 1 player. My question is why aren’t MLB teams playing a game or even a preseason game once a year at their minor league stadiums? Seems like a no-brainer for brand building/marketing. Thanks!

How did you learn video editing? Any editing influences? Had you talked about editing in your Baseball Bits tier list video, what would you have said? I feel the Larry Walker video marked a permanent jump in editing quality. I remember watching it for the first time and being reminded of RedLetterMedia editing.

Hey Foolish, I was wondering if you might be able to help me with a bit of a minor dilemma in my fandom. It’s about catcher framing. On one hand, I know that catcher framing is a skill and I respect the guys who do it well. On the other, I’ll get frustrated with some of the downright terrible zones called by some umps these days and find it annoying when they fall for very blatant framing. Any thoughts or advice on resolving this? Or is it just another bit of hypocrisy I’ll have to deal with in my fandom?

Hey Bailey, Do you ever think baseball reaches a point where the benefits of new research do not give teams enough of an edge to justify the cost of hiring analysts, collecting data, etc.? Will we reach a state of diminishing returns for analytics or are there so many things we haven't even begun looking at that makes this not a concern.

Will Collins

Been ruminating over this for awhile and looking forward to the next Q&A…is there a stat that calculates or values the amount of foul balls in an AB? Obviously depending on the situation, a foul ball can be beneficial to the hitter or the pitcher. If there are men on base, with certain counts and 0-1 out (s) it is good that a hitter is making contact, keeping the game or the inning alive, maybe even waiting for his pitch in his zone. For the pitcher, especially with 2 outs and/or men not on base to avoid “good contact” and try to miss bats or force a ground ball. Is there some way of measuring this; fouls above average perhaps for the hitters? Is this calculated in certain whiff percentage stats for pitchers? If not, would you advocate that Baseball Reference, Savant, or FanGraphs start tracking this? Why or why not?

plootoisaplanet

considering how much cody bellinger has struggled this season and the previous at hitting, what do we take away from his MVP season to now? from the start of the 2020 season, he has an 81 wRC+ with -10.9 fWAR, however he does have a BABIP of .223. do you think he’s gonna break out of his funk and emerge as another 5 tool player or is this just an unfortunate circumstance he won’t be able to get out of?

Bo Brown

What's your perfect meal? Any dessert?

Big Al

Who are your favorite low velocity, high spin pitchers? And, is Paul Sewald the new quirky whiff king, now that James Karinchak sucks and is human garbage?

Joseph

Hey Bailey! I had a question that related to your last baseball bits about Yadi and catching defense. As a Dodger fan, Russell Martin has always been one of my favorite catchers of all time. What do you think of his Hall of Fame chances and how different defensive metrics value him, leading to a major discrepancy between his fWAR and bWAR?

Vertildr

What do you make of Wainwright's change in fortune years after everyone thought his career was over?

Gary Hlusko

I have three questions 1. If you were a GM building a team, what would be the most important position and stats you'd be looking at. 2. Is there a stat that you don't currently have, but wish you could measure or was publicly accessible? 3. If you were a player, what stat would you focus on to make you more valuable?

preston hansen

Hi Bailey, curious to hear your take on Luis Robert's first ~100 MLB games and how you see his career playing out based on what we've seen so far

Sean

I’ve seen a lot about the significant gap between Yasmani Grandal’s BA and OPS. Who would be the anti-Grandal (while still a productive hitter) this season?

ad23

What are your opinions on Jarred Kelenics historically bad start? As an M's fan, he has the physical tools to make it work, but seems to be in his own head far too often. If he digs himself out of this hole and becomes an all-star/HOF caliber player, he would make history. What are your opinions on him?

Eli Presberg

How much do managers matter?

logan smith

Hey Bailey, I was wondering how a team like the Padres can allow a player like Eric Hosmer to keep doing what he is doing. We saw last year that with an elevated launch angle he can still be a meaningful contributor (in a small sample), but for some reason all the strides he made last year have completely vanished. What are they doing wrong? Second question :) I was wondering if you’d ever consider doing some MVP Baseball gameplay for the 2nd channel, I had a lot of fun when you streamed it awhile back. Also I just wanted to say sorry for editing stuff out of my comment last week, didn’t mean to waste any of your time. Love you Bailey <3 P.S. Craig Stammen is great.

Who do you think will have more WAR for the rest of the 2020s Ohtani or Trout?

runrin

no question from me this month, just a reminder to be kind to yourself. we all appreciate your hard work very much. 💙

Wyatt Huggins

Who have been some of the best deadline additions to contending teams in your opinion?

Will

What baseball player would you be most interested to see compete in a different sport? How about vice versa (athlete from another sport that you want to see compete on the diamond)?

Harry Lewis

What's your interpretation of the term 'pure hitter', and which player(s) best exemplify it?

Max T

Do you see Alek Manoah making a serious run for AL ROY? Most people aren't really putting him in the convo, usually because he didn't start the season in the majors like most other ROY contenders, but if he finishes the year with about 20 starts (he's at 15 right now) I think that should be enough.

Mike Steele

Hello Bailey. Ohtani is amazing and the AL MVP front-runner. I feel like he could be having a lesser season on both sides of the ball and still be the AL MVP front-runner. What is your sense of the threshold at which this would stop being the case? I know that narrative also plays a role but how much less could he contribute on the mound with this offense and still be a potential MVP? Conversely, how much offense could he stand to lose at this quality (and volume) of pitching and still be potentially take home the hardware? I guess my interest is in where the line is for quality to override his historic versatility. Thanks as always for the great replies and content!

Dan Russell (Bolly)

Hey Bailey, I hope you're well. Managed to miss out on asking a question last time so I hope you don't mind if I ask two (one is a bit simpler). Q1 - Ohtani and Trout (before injury) this season seem to embody the "great player(s) on an average to poor team" stereotype. Do you think their abilities are being put to waste by the Angels? My immediate answer would be no - Ohtani in particular seems to be having great fun in Anaheim and just looks like a perfect fit for that club and its other players. Q2 - has someone spiked the Mariners' coffee recently? Where has this uptick in form come from and could they maintain it? Surely nobody expected an actual shot at a wildcard spot? Keep on living your best life, and thanks for the videos!

J. Harrison Brink II

What do you think has helped Pujols regain form after the deal from the Angels to the Dodgers?

Jared Natsis

I was at a birthday party for my daughter's preschool classmate the other week, and got to talking Baseball with one of the grandparents that was there. He's enthusiastic about getting an MLB team in Nashville, to the point of apparently belonging to an organization dedicated to lobbying for it. He said "Let me get you my card!" He ran back to his car, then returned to hand me a plain white business card that just said "mlbmusiccity.com" printed in comic sans. Mostly I just wanted to tell that story because of how ridiculous the business card was, but I can make it a question too. How likely do you think Nashville is as a destination for MLB expansion or relocation?

Jimothy

Hey Bailey, when do you think we'll see the legend of Rocktober again, hopefully with more than a first-round exit?

Brian Cashman

Would you rather have the best defense, rotation and bullpen, with just average bats, or the best offense with average defense, rotation and bullpen?

Jacob Mox

For each of these categories, which single game in history would you choose to attend if you had a time machine? - Regular Season (no game 163) - Game 163 - Wild Card - Division Series - Championship Series - World Series

Harper-Leighton Scott

Hi foolish I was recently at the tigers and Orioles game where miggy hit hr 499. And it got me thinking he's obviously unproductive on a mid tigers team in chase of a milestone. And how other great players have done so hurting their war (Lou Brock puting negative war when he passed ty Cobb). I was thinking is there a stat that tells a player true WAR without lacklustre seasons holding them down? Quick question: hypothetical mike trout trade?

Johan

Do you think Andrew Heaney is ever gonna breakout? Some stats are looking pretty decent but he is still getting hit around a lot

Aaron

Is Logan Webb a top 10 pitcher in baseball? He has over a 60% ground ball rate along with a 27% strikout rate. He gets some of the most depth on his sinker and changeup in baseball which makes me think what he's doing is sustainable.

Bob Majzler

Hey Bailey, looking at season WAR this year, the leader as I write this is Marcus Semien with 6.1. With a month left, that seems low. Looking back to 2019, Bellinger led with 9.0 and in 2018 Betts led with 10.8. Why is that? Does that mean the overall stats this season are flatter, with less outliers?

Stephen

Should David Cone be in the hall of fame?

Draisaitl

If you could watch an HD broadcast of any one game/series in MLB history, which would you pick? Default answer is 1927 world series.

Omar

thoughts on the new Spider-Man trailer? If Zendaya has given you any spoilers, pls pass them along too.

Riley Nahlik

I think if a starter throws a complete game win, they should also get credited with a save. I mean, they pitched the final three innings of the game, so they fulfill the requirements, right?

Jeff Sneddon

As traditional as baseball is, it is still constantly changing. As you know some common examples of baseball eras tend to be the dead-ball, segregation ,free agent, or steroid era. A hundred years from now what do you think our current game could be designated as? My thoughts landed at the live-ump era or even the outdoor era.

P.J. Shoemaker

How can the Padres trade Eric Hosmer?

Patrick

What's the best 3-4 duo in the history of baseball? Also who's your personal favorite. I'd say Ruth and Gehrig were the best but Ortiz and Manny were my favorite.

Cody Dutcher

This season, Matt Olson has been able to cut his whiff rate by nearly 12% whilst increasing his slugging percentage. Do you think this will be sustainable long-term over his career or a single-season phenomenon for him?

Wyatt Huggins

How would you grade the Braves’ trade deadline additions so far? Do you still think Snitker is the guy to lead the Braves to a ring?

Taylor Mazzocchi

Heyo again Bayley! What do you think the BEST move for the Mets is this offseason in terms of their front office, and what do you think they actually WILL do? Getting Theo I think is the easy answer to the first part, but I can't see that actually happening because it's the Mets.

Liz Powell

Apologies if you've answered this somewhere before, but how do you go about finding background music that you can use for your videos without getting them demonetized due to copyright? I'm trying to create content myself, and I'd like to be able to monetize it eventually, but even royalty-free music libraries charge some pretty hefty premiums. Any suggestions?
