Fun fact! In Korean shamanism, a potential shaman is chosen by a “God“ But they are not considered a shaman until they “receive a God“ there’s a whole ritual and everything. And yes! There are physical changes that happen. Most Korean shamans are female, so, their monthly would stop, and depending on the God, their personalities would change also. if the shaman is male, they will turn more… Feminized. that is why male shamans are looked down upon more, because they are labeled as homosexuals. (Is this true…? I don’t know. That’s how rare they are, and their sexual proclivities aren’t recorded very often.) once a shaman receives a “God” they will XO size the spirit, or find a way to appease them. They were basically the ancient therapists in ancient Korea. I know more than a few people who go to shamans instead of therapists. I would a person know if they have been “chosen“ by a God? They would get sick. Like really sick! Fevers, chills, fatigue, weakness… And when they go to the doctors, the doctors can’t find anything. That is when they will go to another shaman to see if they need to “receive a God“ and if they are chosen, they would have to apprentice under that shaman. And from then on, they will prepare to go up to the mountains for rituals. A lot of of their occupation is secret. Because society tends to consider them outcast. Ancient Korea relied heavily.
