Some people on our Discord were unsure which version they should download, so we made a quick poll to fix that. If anything feels unclear to you, now’s the time to let us know.

What actually works for you? What feels smooth, and what feels unnecessarily complicated? If something can be made clearer or easier, we'd like to finally get to fixing it.

So I'd really appreciate your input on a few things.

First: files

Is it more convenient for you to go into a MEGA folder and look for a specific file there, or is it easier to just follow a direct link in the post and download what you need immediately?

Second: file naming

Is the distinction between HI RES and COMPRESSED clear enough?

Right now the only difference between them is image quality, nothing else changes. But maybe the labels could be clearer.

If you've ever hesitated for a second before choosing a version, that's already a sign I could name things better.

Version numbering

Is the numbering of versions clear to you?

For example – is it obvious that:

v0.8.08a1 is an Alpha

and that it comes before v0.8.08b1?

Or does that create confusion?

Would it be better if the last number simply increased with every new build, like this:

v0.8.08a1

v0.8.08a2

v0.8.08b3

v0.8.08r4

v0.8.08r5

v0.8.08r6

And one more thing – updates

Do you usually download patches, or do you prefer downloading the whole game every time?

Are patches actually convenient for you, or do they just create extra steps?

If something feels slightly annoying, confusing, or redundant – that’s exactly the kind of thing I want to know.

I play on Linux and have no problem with download folders from MEGA

ItsAlsoAGun

A1 being the first alpha, B1 being the first beta and R1 being the initial release makes sense to me. But I'm also a software dev and we use a very similar release naming convention so I could be biased 🤣

Sh0tgun_Jacks0n

I'm probably going to come across poorly by saying this, but I find the current method to be more than acceptable. It's logical; anyone who doesn't understand should view it as a learning opportunity. Spend long enough on the Internet and you'll invariably run into it again, so best to figure it out now. Also, please don't do away with the patches. They work great for me personally because I don't use browsers that spend every moment spying on me; and the trade-off is that its buffer isn't big enough to download full versions, which requires me to use workarounds when I have to go for them.

Champpu

I think the current format is working great.

AbjectlyCasey

If there are additional alphas and betas (first of all, why?) delineate that clearly. Beyond that I see no issues at all. I like to reload the full release specifically because all the errors have been addressed at that point, but that's me. I didn't have a problem with the 2 or 3 updates I tried, either.

Daniel

Everything is great. However, the version numbering is a tiny bit more complex than I believe required. It makes sense to me, but I don't know if everyone fully understands it. I don't have a recommendation for how you could change it though.

Hunter Lovejoy

The version numbering makes sense after it was explained to me a while back but at first it was a little confusing

john schuster

Love the game but needs more booty play with the other characters

Boring rays

I honestly prefer gofile. mega is a pain because of that deciphering step or whatever

YC

Never used patches as they only work for Windows and I use Linux (BTW).

Dejohn.active

Wait Does the versions actually matter? As long as I'm getting the latest version all the content from previous version should be there right?

Zeilliah

The only problem i have is download limit from most site, I dont know if there's a way around that, whether on my side or yours. And if anyone has ideas on how to fix this im all in. I dont really like having to wait multiple days for the download and i usualy dont download patches because I dont play each patch so i assume you have to download the whole file.

Zintolly

The download limit on Mega is a pain. I rather not use that site at all.

Chi The Legend

dont like mega, they limit me for how much can download without an account, and the limit is smaller than the full game so its only really useful for patches, rather use the gofile links.

Chris Blaylock

Honestly, Mega Sucks. I'll use it however you have it. And I never patch, I would rather download the full hi res every time, and replace the versions manually.

UnDean Wormer

Not sure if other filehosts have been considered, but I definitely prefer getting files from Pixeldrain over any of the other typical host services. Even with a MEGA account, I'm not really a fan of their system either.

Elm

I'm fine with how all of this is written and given. I'm not a fan of patches. For the alpha/beta/release tag. For those that don't have 'dev context' I think just writting in the name the full meaning might make some sense. But unless it's broken, don't fix it

Kiskocya

I also use Linux, and the patches work fine through proton (wine probably work too) I'd rather deal with the inconvenience than download the full 10 Gig.

Kiskocya

I was never a big fan of the versioning scheme, but changing it now will cause more confusion that it is worth.

StrongBadSings

Is there a higher res version for android that I was unaware of? I'm playing it on a 12" tablet and was disappointed it seemed like the same resolution as the one on my old phone

Zanith

The resolution is actually the same, the compression is different. If you have the 12Gb .rpa file, that's the "hi-res" version.

Zanith

When you say you're not a fan of patches, do you mean the actual patch files, or the alpha/beta/release scheme in general?

Zanith

Correct! The issue is, some people thought that alpha/beta versions are newer than the "r" versions.

Zanith

Additional Alphas and Betas are rare, they only happen when we mess something up really badly and need to fix it to allow folks to play at all.

Elm

Sorry, I meant patches files ( my bad for being a bit confusing)

Chaotic Creations

i think downloading the game as a whole after a really major change is neccessary for potential crash prevention. Like i did a full redownload for V7 and otherwise ive used patches just fine but i use compressed. might as well go HD

Jeff

Slight tangent. I normally just download the smaller, compressed version now, and have not seen much of a difference visually.
