Hey, folks!

I included a portion of an old draft post about Riften U in the latest development update. I thought I was very clever for yoinking it out right after publishing the post, but apparently one of the only things Patreon does well is mailing the original posts to everyone straight away. 😒

So let me clear it all up a bit. When I was writing and revising that original Riften U post draft we were about a week from submitting the Steam page of Riften U for review. (guess the surprise is no more)

Internally, we were discussing how we want our first outing on Steam to be a triumph and what we could do to achieve that. At the same time we really, really didn't want to offend you folks. Many of you spent significant amounts of money supporting us over the years, and it would be very much a dick move to do some weird release stunt without even asking. So we wanted to get the discussion started, collect some feedback and maybe figure out a way to make everyone at least mostly happy.

And then a few days later after reviewing the art and the story we decided to pause the development and rethink some stuff. I breathed a sigh of relief and put away the post draft until later.

Yesterday I wanted to finally provide a bit of an update about Riften U, so I went to that old post draft, looked for something interesting to share, found nothing, switched back to the main document to write the "Hey folks, we're remaking Riften U once again", and somehow managed to copy over half of the old draft doc.

Sorry.

The question of the Steam release for Riften U will become relevant again in a few months when we're ready to launch the updated store page, so you folks are going to see the removed bit making a comeback. Although I'll reword it for sure because I don't really like that draft. For now, have a look at a new sketch:

And we'll share more when we have more to share.

Oh, by the way, v0.7.2 was just updated to r2, so if you experience any schedule and trigger conflicts, especially those related to Cait/Naomi activities, please update your game. The upcoming 0.7.3 alpha will also include those fixes.

And see you soon!

So, I will only speak for myself on this, but when it comes to sites like this, I've never looked at it as paying for a game. I've looked at it as supporting the devs making the game, and it's not like I haven't reaped my share of rewards.

AHK! No Fireplace Scene! No!

I second this: >supporting the devs making the game (and if said devs wish to branch out into more games, that is their choice, and we're here for them, no matter what they opt to do)

ps: all three Caits are lovely and great

I will add: If there is a concern about fairness, I know some devs who have offered Steam (or even other platform) keys to patrons who are at a certain tier and/or have contributed a certain amount. That might be worth taking into consideration; the patrons who might otherwise be upset are mollified, and you still secure a secondary revenue stream for your hard work.

I'll explain it in more detail later, when we're closer to the release of Riften U, but here's the funny/sad thing. Even if it was only about money, it almost certainly would be more beneficial for us financially to literally pay for every Patron's purchase on Steam than to give out keys. On Steam, only those who purchased the game in the store count as "real" players. Reviews left with gifts/key activations do not count towards the overall rating, and Steam Algorithm won't be considering the game with lots of key activations a worthy game to show to other players. We may still do it, though. And thank you for your support and your kind words!

Thanks! We'll be making more adjustments, but I personally is much more happy with this art style.
