Hi all. Garin here.

I've got some bad news and some good news. Sky is now blocking backblaze. As it's one of the larger ISP's in the UK this is the last straw for our little download engine.

In the coming weeks we will be moving over to a Microsoft hosted server to git rid of the vast majority of these issues. We've been saving up for something like this, and this just moves us up in the timeline a bit.

In the meantime, if you are in the UK and use Sky, the easy fix is to change your DNS over to 1.1.1.1

https://1.1.1.1/dns/

Which is a good idea in general. We are very sorry about this, and are working to get our system converted as soon as possible.

We are still using CG&T for downloads and storage, we are just upgrading to a more robust back end download service.

As always, please send us a PM if you are having any trouble with the website and changing your DNS does not fix it.

Thanks for the suggestion on DNS! I've found 1.1.1.1 is one of the best public DNS' available! :)

Will the stuff at m we've got from CGT so be there or should I go on a Downloading binder?

themakerscult

It'll all transfer over. From a user perspective, nothing will change except there will be a speed up and the FtF errors will go away.

Not a UK citizen so not familiar with the backstory on Sky VS backblaze.

So it will just be a new site to go to...awesome thank you

themakerscult

No. Same address, same links. We rely on backblaze to transmit data from our servers to your computer, soon we'll be using a microsoft service instead.

Curious why you dont just use google drive like the vast majority of other Patreons? So simple and easy for the majority of everyone to use, and I've never have download issues with it or my friends either. And able to download projects ranging from 1gb to 24gb so far NO PROBLEM. It seems like trying all these other services is just needlessly over complicating it.

O-102

Well I think that is natural for a business to want to have their own page, managed by them where they can offer the whole range to you month by month and that is always accessible.

The solutions Makers Cult are pursuing eliminate the need to clutter up your hard drives with every single model from all your patreons every month. Not only does it save space and hassle, but if I feel like browsing my models it's so much easier to just scroll through my archived library than it is to go through the folders and open the files one at a time.

themakerscult

In addition to being able to access your models at any time, google drive does not work well for a good portion of Eastern European and South American users. We often had to generate multiple kinds of links with multiple services each month.

Kady

Your current one has way more issues it seems, including being unable to download everything in a single zip. Couldn’t even get some of the files to download last month for weeks.

Kady

Umm Chris that makes zero sense. People want to manage their own files, not have someone else do it for them. And risk arbitrarily losing access later, as we have literally just seen happen right now. And its super cheap to obtain extra storage these days. Far cheaper than online hosting.

Most of the issues stemming from the website revolve around an issue with backblaze that began in Feburary, and has snowballed to a larger problem. That is why we are changing for a Microsoft host. And no, there were far more problems with google drive. It was not uncommon to have to generate 200+ personal links every month when we used google drive, due to problems with it, users loosing downloaded files or users finding that a downloaded file had been corrupted. While we are constantly working to improve our own website, speaking from experience, there are far less issues every month than with google drive.

Prezo

You are speaking very generally for everyone it seems and I don't think you personally can represent them. As far as I'm concerned I've recently begun dropping 3d print patreons that don't use something like MMF or CG&T because I'm tired of having to make sure that I check and download the most recent version of the files at the end of the month or risk losing access to a months downloads forever, some patreons are good about getting you a link if you were subscibred for a month but others are really not. I much prefer being able to grab any of my files I paid for at any time and not have to worry about missing out because I wasn't able to or forgot to download for a particular month.

Kady

Not sure who you are backing but that sounds like they are extremely disorganized. I just wait until 1 week before the month is over, download and I'm good. I've also backed over a dozen such patreons, and this is the only one I have had this experience with or seen these kinds of issues (change link providers repeatedly, being blocked by countries, links not working, not being able to bulk download, etc). I'm not saying TMC is doing anything wrong, it simply isn't the norm as you are trying to imply. And as they have pointed out, the sheer scope of their patreon audience creates a different situation for them. Something else you need to consider. And I have NEVER seen a patreon creator who wasn't willing to share links with anyone who missed them. TMC included, who was very quick to help out when I did miss it before.

US user. Still having issues. I've tried everything suggested. My downloads are still not showing up. Any suggestions? Thanks and love the models :)

themakerscult

Hi. I've sent you a PM after the last comment, but you need to change your CG&T email to match your patreon email. Otherwise the accounts will not link. Please see the message for details.

Patrick Tackett

I believe I found the issue. For whatever reason there were two emails attached to account. I have deleted the error one, which may have been the one you send the pm through that I didn't receive.

themakerscult

HI. I'm glad it seems to be working out. You will still need to add the email address associated with your patreon account to comicsgamesandthings.com/accounts/email and make it the primary email.
