Could you please read Shakespeare’s sonnet 145: Those lips that Love's own hand did make, Breathed forth the sound that said 'I hate', To me that languished for her sake: But when she saw my woeful state, Straight in her heart did mercy come, Chiding that tongue that ever sweet Was used in giving gentle doom; And taught it thus anew to greet; 'I hate' she altered with an end, That followed it as gentle day, Doth follow night, who like a fiend From heaven to hell is flown away. 'I hate', from hate away she threw, And saved my life, saying 'not you'. And could you also please read The One by Keaton Henson: You are the one for me Make me feel young Take me on holiday Bite off my tongue Darling one, darling There’s nothing you lack I’ll give you the sky Or the skin off my back You are an angel I’ll keep you from harm Talk to me sweetly Break both my arms My Aphrodite You’re every breath Sing me a lullaby Love me to death

“Love After Love” by Derek Walcott The time will come when, with elation, you will greet yourself arriving at your own door, in your own mirror, and each will smile at the other’s welcome, and say, sit here. Eat. You will love again the stranger who was your self. Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart to itself, to the stranger who has loved you all your life, whom you ignored for another, who knows you by heart. Take down the love letters from the bookshelf, the photographs, the desperate notes, peel your own image from the mirror. Sit. Feast on your life. It is one of my favourite poems of all time. I feel like it’d sound even more beautiful with your soothing voice x 💖

My favorite poem is « Il pleure dans mon coeur » by Paul Verlaine Reading it in French would be amazing but here is the best translation I could find It Rains in My Heart It rains in my heart As it rains on the town, What languor so dark That it soaks to my heart? Oh sweet sound of the rain On the earth and the roofs (!) For the dull heart again, Oh the song of the rain (!) It rains for no reason In this heart that lacks heart. What? And no treason? It’s grief without reason. By far the worst pain, Without hatred, or love, Yet no way to explain Why my heart feels such pain

Here is an expert from Persimmons by Li-Young Lee if you wanna read it! persimmons. This is precision. Ripe ones are soft and brown-spotted. Sniff the bottoms. The sweet one will be fragrant. How to eat: put the knife away, lay down newspaper. Peel the skin tenderly, not to tear the meat. Chew the skin, suck it, and swallow. Now, eat the meat of the fruit, so sweet, all of it, to the heart. Donna undresses, her stomach is white. In the yard, dewy and shivering with crickets, we lie naked, face-up, face-down. I teach her Chinese. Crickets: chiu chiu. Dew: I’ve forgotten. Naked: I’ve forgotten. Ni, wo: you and me. I part her legs, remember to tell her she is beautiful as the moon.

Locien Flynn

Shhh baby it's me

I really like e.e Cummings his poetry is pretty good I m not sure what this one is called but I'll just send the words I like my body when it is with your body. It is so quite new a thing. Muscles better and nerves more. I like your body. I like what it does, I like its hows. I like to feel the spine of your body and its bones, and the trembling firm-smoothness and which I will again and again and again kiss, I like kissing this and that of you. I like, slowly stroking the shocking fuzz of your electric fur, and what-is-it comes over parting flesh And eyes big love-crumbs, and possibly I like the thrill of under me you so quite new. — e.e. cummings

Keiann

‘i wrote this for you’ by iain s thomas has really beautiful and romantic poems! one of my favourite parts is “ I love no one but you, I have discovered, but you are far away and I am here alone. Then this is my life and maybe, however unlikely, I’ll find my way back there. Or maybe, one day, I’ll settle for second best. And on that same day, hell will freeze over, the sun will burn out and the stars will fall from the sky.” it would really really soft and sweet if you read this! :)

Keiann

‘little things - an anthropology of poems’ also has quite a few interesting poems if you want something less romantic HAHA

Hey K! I LOVE this idea but I noticed that a lot of people are suggesting the classic old-white-dude poets. Can you make sure to mix it up a bit when you do the reading? Not that the old whites didn’t write beautiful, transcendent things ✨but so did everyone else who didn’t get as much attention because they weren’t white and/or European. Plus it’s nice to hear the perspective of poets with less privilege? Hope this doesn’t come across mean or annoying, it’s chill. But ya Suggestions of poets of color in the comments have been. Fiaz Ahmad Fiaz - (one of the most celebrated Pakistani poets) Gwendolyn Brooks - (Pulitzer Prize winning QUEEN) Kevin Young (cool modern dude) Li-Young Lee (from Chinese American perspective on love and little things) R.H. Sin (cool Insta poet dude) Neruda (duh)

nyla

I second this! Only reason I didn’t suggest any is bc I lack any poetry knowledge further than the old white dudes

Liz

I love Langston Hughes and Hiwot Adilow. If your looking for more diverse poets, the breakbeats poet anthology is great and vol 2 is my fave!

Blessid

Sophia Madelone

This is a great idea that you have, I can’t wait to hear it!☀️💁🏻‍♀️ so this is a poem that I think you would like is by the poet Na Tae-joo from his collection called “I want to give you my most beautiful thoughts”: Each and every one of us is a star traveling across the universe. Stars that got lost and ended up here after wandering the vast universe. No, that’s not true. We’re stars that ended up crossing paths right here in this moment Because we missed each other and longed for one another for a long time That makes us miraculous stars. The stars that travel across the sky only twinkle. They are never sad or lonely. However, we’re stars that feel lonely and sad at times. Stars that have regrets. And that makes us such lovely stars.

hii k!! im ollie! this poem really turns me on (and makes me feel really single 😩) every time i read it haha. And yet one arrives somehow, finds himself loosening the hooks of her dress in a strange bedroom— feels the autumn dropping its silk and linen leaves about her ankles. The tawdry veined body emerges twisted upon itself like a winter wind . . . ! — William Carlos Williams

Hi K you cutie! Having a Coke with You by Frank O' Hara is one of my favorite poems that I love and always come back to.

Zora Nyx

Heyooo K:) I am new here so I'm a little bit late to this train but it's always worth a try, I guess. I am not that familiar with English literature yet because back then my English wasn't that polished to fully emerge myself into the sea of words in a foreign language. So I gotta go with an author from my country. To choose the best one, I had to wip out all of that knowledge, I've gained in those advanced literature classes. Picking two poem was one of the hardest tasks for my literature nerd self, it was like picking a favorite child. I hope my suggestions can spice up the reading a lil bit, making it an international one. I picked two poems from my favorite Hungarian author. I hope you like them :) Szabó Lőrinc: Nothing Else https://www.babelmatrix.org/works/hu/Szab%C3%B3_L%C5%91rinc-1900/Egy%C3%A9b_nem/en/62479-Nothing_Else Szabó Lőrinc: Dream of the one https://www.google.com/amp/s/thehighwindowpress.com/2019/06/17/hungarian-poetry/amp/ Ohhhh and I'm gonna stole a few poems from the audio to start my English literature journey so thank you for making it💕

Montana Destiny

This is just something random I came up with at work earlier this year. I don’t think it’s too good but I hope you like it anyways. Let me know 💗 The man behind the screen The angel of my dreams. The man I love so much The man I long to feel his touch. Though the miles may separate us, I won’t make a fuss. To wrap me under your arm Spending the night at the farm.
