OTHER:

Jemma and I went to NYC to see some shows. Gypsy was the most impressive. Audra McDonald should have the Tony wrapped up. Maybe Happy Ending was very charming and had some earworms. Floyd Collins was well staged and produced (and Jeremy Jordan was remarkable) but I don’t think it was my cup of tea.

Started playing Split Fiction (PS5) with Jemma and we’re having a blast

Absolutely love Tunde Adebimpe’s new album ‘Thee Black Boltz’. Listening to this made me go about 2 weeks of listening to nothing but TV on the Radio. I’m hoping to catch them on their reunion tour. Also really enjoyed the new Mount Eerie album, ‘Night Palace’ and Destroyer’s new one ‘Dan’s Boogie’.

I had a blast guesting on some friends podcasts including A Funny Feeling pod (talking ghosts and spooky stuff in general), Fudgecast (formerly Improv Is Dead)

Oh! After 20 years of living in Chicago I FINALLY went to Lou Mitchell’s diner. Big thumbs up. I love me a diner.

I made a new playlist if anyone is looking for something to listen to. Fair warning: it includes a song by a Japanese boy band, D.O.L, that Jemma and I stumbled upon at a mall in Tokyo and have been obsessed with ever since. Well at least the one song, 'Upgrade'. Spotify playlist HERE

From JPC:

Hey Riddiots -

Really excited about our live show line up this year. If we are coming to your city, I hope you come to the show. They are always a lot of fun for me personally and I’ve heard they are also fun to attend.

If you’re travelling for shows, Don Bluth the animator is directing his last stage show this fall in AZ, I’m stage managing. He’s ending on Crazy For You, felt he wanted something lighthearted right now.

Hey clue crew, I want to crochet you all some trinkets and give them to you at the Denver show but I don't wanna make something that offends you or that you won't like! You don't have to respond to this but if you do want to respond I would love if you could steer me in the right direction of something small to make each of you please DM me or reply here if you're comfortable with that!

BIG HUGE FROG

Enjoy Split Fiction, Adal! It's great end to end.

Chris Pearce

I literally came here to say the same since it wasn't on his list. Such a good movie

Matthew

Adal, did you see Conlave in 4DX?

DrewishKing

Holy water spits out of the front of the seats during those blessing scenes. Wild wacky stuff

A small yarn ornament. Like a puzzle piece? Or. The letters HRR ? I won't be at Denver, I'll be at NY, but it's a really nice gesture. I'd want a mini cat. Maybe others would want mini dogs. I'm Not sure the possibilities : time constraints of crocheting. That's very cool of you.

I love your ideas so much! The letters is a great idea. Luckily I'm a pretty quick maker when it comes to time so I'm hopeful I'll have plenty of time since the Denver show isn't till October

Hey Riddle Riddle

Nothing for jpc, please! Or if you want to make something, just take a picture of it and show him the picture.

I highly recommend the Michael B. Jordan vehicle, "Sinners" which is absolutely stunning / arresting both visually and sonically (also stay through the credits). It's called a horror movie, but it's basically a-generic (not being scary, but certainly leaning heavily on horror movie tropes), and, my god, I cannot remember a time when I had as much fun in a movie that was also so deeply felt; I'm going to see it again after just seeing it a day ago. New best game? Clair Lune: Expedition 33. It's developed by the disenfranchised French Ubisoft guys, heroically, behind some of the greatest early titles from that studio (who suffered through its deterioration--remember Sam Fisher/Splinter Cell?). It's going to be game of the year, and I hope you heard / saw it here first. Books: I'm a professional critic and I'm very personally 'particular' about my feelings re: the literary world but "Intermezzo" surprised me in its evocation of a felt world beautifully built into wonderful dialogue. I cannot promote Marlon James' Dark Star Trilogy a lot. I saw him quite a bit at Iowa, but I fell in love with his work separately from that, and I'm glad I did. There's a lot of good poetry out there. Ocean Vuong and Ben Lerner remain good. Mary Oliver I think had a recent recollection of her work that is nice. I really recommend literary journals and small presses over major publishers for poesy.

Came here to say go see Sinners before it leaves theaters!! Which is what everyone else is saying! Haha. That one music seen, though. Ugh. Could watch it 100 times 😍

Love this, and I had a feeling that was the case! Thank you for letting me know 💙

Happy to see a playlist again! They are always a fun listen.
