as a member of the LDS church, this was hilarious

re: old names: The Tiffany Problem refers to the fact that some historically correct names etc READ to modern audiences as anachronistic and modern, despite the fact that they were used back then. The name Tiffany was used in the 1600s, but if you read the name Tiffany in a historical context you would be pulled immediately out of it.

Is Zorp's name Rylie?!

Bex Hex

I mean you can get dirty sodas at Sonic.

Connor

I LIVE IN APOPKA FLORIDA HOLY SHIT

Chris Pearce

Yes, it's coconut and lime in your drink

Exmormon here: dirty soda shops are everywhere in Utah. They're all closed on Sundays just like the rest of this state. They let black people in the church because they wouldn't lost tax exception status. They want to be called LDS instead of mormon but also Don't even get me started on the ultra secret cult shit happening in the temple (bad vibes) Come to Utah though!! I'll come see you if you perform!!!!

Bex Hex

That’s the OG dirty soda combo. 🥥🍋‍🟩You can also add any of their other drink flavors or cream to their sodas. I do love a dirty soda but as an exmo (ex Mormon) who lived in Utah it is a bit funny to see their addiction to soda, when coffee and tea is prohibited lol.

Bex Hex

I lived in Utah for awhile and when I moved to the south people were baffled and amazed by the idea of a dirty soda for some reason. And then our small town in East Tennessee got a Swig 😂

this is going to sound ridiculous but recently in Mississippi there was an incident with an overturned vehicle that let loose several monkeys. sheriffs initially reported that the 40 lb monkeys were infected with COVID/Hep C/herpes and were thought to be aggressive. the university that the monkeys were being transported from disputed but at first that’s what i thought jpc was gonna talk about.

Autumnis_Prime

was then cracking up because i’m relistening to old episodes in the main feed until it catches up to being ad-free in the clue crew. but i’m on episode 98: degrees and about 41 mins in Adal is OMP and he reads the exact same article and they make the similar observations about nolan’s name being one letter off from NOLA and they both also struggle with those rural ass florida towns (i’m initially from florida so i found this bit especially enjoyable). just had to share. amazing how you guys are able to make me laugh at the same things 5 years apart.

Ty for explaining exmo. First time I've heard. Caffeine is a drug so coffee and tea are prohibited?

Bex Hex

Joseph Smith originally said “hot drinks” were not to be consumed. At the time that the hot drinks of the day would’ve been coffee and tea.

Bex Hex

A lot of people use the fact that they have caffeine as a way to explain not drinking them. I wasnt even allowed by my mom to drink caffeinated sodas growing up. But not every LDS family was like that. I know plenty of LDS people that drink caffeinated sodas. I feel like from my own experience in the church, a lot of these rules were to see how devoted to God you were. Would you follow what the prophet says even if there isn’t a clear logic- because in the end God knows what’s best for us. Hope that helps- I’m trying to be as neutral about this topic as possible since I see there are some active LDS in the comments.

soda is too sweet for me to begin with, i could never get into the dirty soda….but a lot of the soda places in utah also have water drinks that have a couple splashes of syrup, fruit bits, and that good good pebble ice. Honestly delightful if you want something sweet and fruity and refreshing.

This reminds me that a name came from a movie It was like an M name I don't even remember

Scientology is an actual Cult that preys on its members financially through lies, manipulation, and scared tactics. While there are for sure sects of mormonism that act the same way I do think that as a whole it functions more as an actual religion. Like there definitely Mormons who are just normal people who go to a Mormon church and treat it exactly the same as a baptist or Lutheran treats their church. But there are definitely Ocmpounds where some Mormons function as a malicious cult like entity. But at the same time half of the most famous cults of the past 80 years have started as members of some sort of Christian Denomination so its hard to say that that makes the entirety of Mormanism a cult. Where as Scientology is for sure a cult that is has a malicious intent and a desire to can financial, political, and religious control over our country ina way that is truly disturbing.

They dont even know that this is an animal parade update. I think they did a story about the monkeys ages ago.
