Hello. Bachelors in linguistics, masters student in education in the language teaching field. Japanese is kinda similar to French, when I arrived in Japan I didnt want to do a japanese accent or affectation, but they genuinely understood me better when I started, especially because there are a lot of borrowed words from English with they often misunderstand if you don't say it in a Japanese accent. Also the "how do you say.." or "whats the word..." is STILL taught in conversation classes to identify that you're searching for a word. So the japanese also do it sometomes.

Kelso of the Sea

JPC there are also online fax services- I’ve had to use it to send insurance forms for clients because of course the insurance industry relies on faxes too

Rocket Cambria

Fellow Japanese student here, I appreciate you sharing these thoughts! ☺️

Some banks still do. Places in the medical field still do since it's more secure than the internet. Surprised me to learn that.

Samantha Jo Hall

Yes! You can fax from your phone through Gmail

Whoa, fellow bachelors in linguistics masters in education teaching in South Korea atm, we basically have the same life. 100% agree, my students will stare blankly at me when i say “sports”, then i’ll say the Konglish pronunciation 스포츠 (suh-po-chuh) and they’ll be like “ohhhh why didnt you just say that teacher??”

Shez

Im unfortunately returned to canada to do my masters. :'( but south Korea on the list for sure. Maybe EPIK or some other program.

Elliott

Would recommend! EPIK can be annoying w assigning people to multiple schools, but public schools are still better than private academies

In Japan I worked for 3 years at 5 ES, then 1 more year at 2 ES and 2 JHS. Im used to multiple schools 😅 although I'd love to just be at one and get to know the staff and students.

Dakota Kipper

The energy in this episode is unreal. Off-the-charts good vibes.

Did the Boston live show already happen? I have tickets to go next week but now I'm worrying I somehow missed it??

riss

Creme de menthe perhaps

The story about Larry the Cable Guy was really touching. I went and watched an interview where he talked about getting the part, and Erin is right - it was so sweet.
