FROM JPC:
Hi Riddiots -
Over the last few weeks, we've had multiple listeners from Minnesota reach out to tell us how much they have appreciated our show being some escapism in some pretty bleak times. We don't always talk about all the horrible shit going on in the world on our podcast, because we appreciate that so many people use our show as a way to have a temporary reprieve. And while I love that our show can provide an escape, I also don't want to squander the opportunity to use our platform to talk about what is currently happening in our world. So I'd like to get into it briefly now:
I don't think it'll come as a surprise to any of you that I'm pretty fucking disgusted with our federal government and the jack-booted nazi thugs that they sent to terrorize the Twin Cities. I guess that if that is a surprise, then this show definitely isn't for you and I do not want you here. Over the 8 years we've been doing this show, I think I've only ever banned like 4 people from the Patreon. While my heart breaks for the people murdered by ICE and DHS, I'm also incredibly moved by the overwhelming response of solidarity in the communities being targeted. If there is any silver lining to this, it definitely isn't the response of 99% of our lawmakers, it's in the rapid-response networks that have popped up to tell ICE to get the fuck out of Minnesota. The people in the streets resisting and refusing to have their rights be trampled over are pushing a lot of people to face the absolutely reprehensible behavior of our government. And the people in the streets are winning. And despite the efforts of the freaks and cowards in power, the people resisting ICE are becoming more and more popular.
Dr. King said the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice. But that doesn't just happen. It takes brave people putting their bodies on the line and forcing it to bend. So I stand in solidarity with the people of Minnesota resisting the creeping rise of authoritarian state-sanctioned violence in their communities. And I hope that their example gives us all the courage to stand up for what is moral and right in our communities as well.
If you're in Chicago and want to catch me performing Whirled News at iO in February, I should be there on 2/7 and 2/14.
