It’s April already! That sentence is BONKERS.

We hope all of you are doing well and have been or are getting vaccinated soon! We can’t wait to meet folks in person again hopefully sometime soon!

From Adal:

March was gone in the blink of an eye for me! I feel like I haven’t done much at all but I’ll muster up what I can! Last week I got the first Pfizer shot so that’s been a big relief. Jemma had her birthday last Sunday, which was nice to have cause for celebration! She’s wanting to get more into making her own stuff so my mom got her a sewing machine. If you have any recommendations on things to make, send them her/my way! TODAY is also literally 1 YEAR since Jemma and I got engaged! #Rifai-Do

My birthday is creeping up (June 1st) and all I want is for Japes, Erin and myself to have the travel show we talked about, where we eat at State Fairs around the US. So please put that out into the Universe or better yet CALL UNIVERSAL and tell them to back it. Fries & Brisket have been little loafs around the house so no news with them.

The biggest change is my sister and brother-in-law are moving to Nashville! We’re so bummed to not have them around any more (I’ve lived within 5 miles of my sister for the past 19 years!) but we’re incredibly excited for them and look forward to having an excuse to visit Nashville 5 or 6 times a year now. If you have any recommendations for stuff to (eventually) do in Nashville, please let me know in the comments so I can pass it all along to Sadieh & Doug! I think that’s about it?

Here’s what I consumed in April!

TV:

Call My Agent - we’re now 4 seasons deep into this show! It’s fantastic. French comedy about agents and the actors they represent. It’s on Netflix and I cannot recommend it enough.

The Falcon & The Winter Soldier

Deadwood - finished it all!

Stanley Tucci: Searching For Italy

RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 13

Top Chef Season 18

South ParQ: Vaccination Special

Last Week Tonight

Last Chance U: Basketball

Last Chance U: Football seasons 1 & 2

SNL

Bluey

Movies:

Coming 2 America

Brian Regan: On The Rocks

A Chorus Line

Every Little Step: A Chorus Line Documentary

Jaws 4: The Revenge

Billie Eilish: The Worlds A Little Blurry

Other Stuffs:

I guested on the following podcasts! My episodes are either out now or coming soon! The Completists podcast. The Restricted Section podcast. The Blue Ridge Adventures Guild podcast. Garden Plots with Skeletor podcast. Concept Podcast (talking about Monster Rap!). Man Now Dog podcast with Erin & JPC.

I played a round of the game Alice Is Missing on Discord and it’s so fun! Highly recommend checking that out. I haven’t listened to much music lately but I dug the new Wurld Series album What’s Growing. Kinda sounds like YUCK/Dinosaur Jr.. Fun walking around music.

Please let me know if you have any recommendations for me!

Love,

Adal

From Erin:

Hello friends!

Check out my guide to vintage shopping if you want!

Also buy yourself flowers, wear a loud sweatshirt, and put this song on repeat to bring in the spring!

From JPC:

See you later, March! I don't know about the rest of you, but I am ready for spring. I can't wait to bust out my tank tops, sit on my porch, drink Topo Chico and pretend that the impending climate crisis isn't creeping ever closer.

What else has been going on in my life? Well, in the world of plants, I thought my palm was dying because all of the leaves turned brown and it looked pathetic, but I still bought a grow light and some plant food to try to save it and I'm happy to report that it's got 3 new green sproutings and one of them is starting to open up. It seems like it might pull through! Rough winter for that palm.

For television, I've been passively watching Superstore (Mariah has been watching it and I've been in the room) and I gotta say, it's pretty funny! I haven't watched a network sitcom in a long time and I kinda just assumed that they were all bad, but this one is pretty good. Also, it features a guy I saw in an improv show in Chicago in 2007, so that's pretty cool. Other than that, I haven't been watching shit. I'm excited that John Oliver is back tho so I can get sad every Sunday night.

I finished Cyberpunk 2077 and it was just okay! One of those games I enjoyed (for the most part) while playing and will probably never think about again. Now I'm on a kick of playing some shorter games, but I'll probably play another big developer game sometime this month, I just don't know what it will be yet.

I'm still really loving the FitBod app. It's helped me stick to a workout routine this year and I'm still going strong. I'd highly recommend it for anyone looking for an at-home routine.

Hope y'all are doing well! I love you.

Congrats on the year of being engaged and joinging the Pfizer Squad Adal!

Aidan Kedzierski

I’ve been playing the Ace Attorney games. I played the first two games months ago but now I’m working on the third game and finishing up the trilogy. I love solving the cases. It’s sort of like Riddles just. The messages aren’t as cryptic.

Lane Meyerson

Yo JPC! I thoroughly enjoyed Superstore and it had one of the better wrap ups to a sitcom I've seen in a while. If you want other sitcoms for Mariah to watch while you're also there: Mr. Mayor and Call Me Kat are both quite entertaining. Happy April, everyone!

Tyler Jennings

the only album I have been listening to the past year (since may) has been "no dream" by Jeff Rosenstock, but i have finally found something new that has kicked it out of constant rotation and that has been "life in your glass world" by citizen. so if anybody still listens to rock music (emo/punk) these days, I highly recommend both albums

Rachel

I'm going to be that person that recommends Seaspiracy. It's incredibly compelling. I also think that since we successfully got Erin to post her vintage shopping tips, could we maybe get her to post those veggie soup recipes?

Mr. Martini

@Adal I got a feeling you might love the anime Food Wars. The first 2 seasons are on netflix and the rest are on crunchyroll. Its about a high school culinary school that fights via cooking battles. All the recipes and techniques in the show are legit and look amazing, and what happens when people eat the food is, uh, very unique...

I'm a bit of a hobby seamstress and I'd recommend just checking for patterns at a local sewing/craft store or online. There are tons of beginner patterns for skirts, dresses, pants, etc. (or if you're feeling a little more adventurous, don't constrain yourself to the beginner section--sewing is more about attention to detail and willingness to redo a couple steps if you mess up than it is about skill). Feels so good to get a compliment on something you're wearing and be able to say that you made it! I've also dabbled in quilting and that's a great hobby that can start as simple as stripes and graduate to tessellating cats or other impressively complicated designs. You can make little wall hangings or giant bedspreads with it or anything in between!

I was talking up Rian Johnson to my in-laws last week and ended up re-watching his 2005 noir masterpiece Brick, so I just want to highly recommend that to everyone, it’s on Amazon Prime and is the best damn mystery movie ever, better even than Knives Out!

Serpentine

Hey Adal! Turns out there's a Bluey-based podcast called Bluey's Brisbane. I think it's sort of using Bluey to help explore the city? I dunno. But today I got interviewed for it! Keep an eye out for their episode about Winton/Longreach/the Outback if you wanna hear me explain the difference between paleontology and archaeology (assuming I don't end up on the editing room floor).
