Hey Riddiots -

Episode 127 was our first ever Chatterbox where we did an episode without a premise: just chatting. We had a lot of fun on this episode, but before we do more of them, we wanted to get a sense from you all if it's something you'd like to see us do more of. We want to continue making the kind of episodes that you all enjoy, so we appreciate everyone that takes the time to give us some feedback. You'll also see that we cleverly worded the poll so that you'd be forced to be nice to us!update: since we've had some comments on this, just thought we'd add that we are not looking at getting rid of anything we are currently doing: the games, the long-form episodes, the heavy-premise scenic stuff. Just looking at adding something like a chatterbox into the rotation. Thanks for all the feedback so far!-The Clue Crew

Eddie Stage

Maybe a Chatterbox episode about whether or not there should be more?

Hey Riddle Riddle

infinite Chatterbox episodes about infinite Chatterbox episodes

Eddie Stage

The loop will be complete!

Paul Patoka

In my opinion, the main feed or the patrion could pivot to only chatterbox. I would have to not listen for a month to binge all the nonsense at once 😁😁😁

David Currie

I loved it felt like the livestream episodes. I'd take another tier for 10 dollars including a bi weekly chatterbox as well as the rest of the content? As the remember this, state and JPCs games are too good to miss. The high concept episodes like the woods and the beach are some of the best you guys have done as well

Zac Turnbull

why are you guys pretending like you have a choice

Nicholas Herron

Wouldn’t want the patreon to become *just* chatterbox, but one every now and then is great.

Eric Bloom

Yes please! I could listen to y'all chatter about anything forever! That's why I subscribed to the Patreon in the first place! Lol love yewwww! 💜💙💚

AK ie JetBlackArsonal

Sometimes, you just need fluff and bullshiting in your life. Chatterbox fills those needs

Jericho

The games are super fun but every once in a while it’s nice to just hear you guys chat

Meg

I really enjoyed the Chatterbox episode! I hope you do more.

PrueTee

Yes pls! The chat between you guys is the best! But also, I do love the chaotic “we should absolutely be doing some game/premise/shitting on riddles right now but instead we’re just going to talk about our lives instead” energy because we still get the chat but you get hilariously stressed about it

Nathan Allen

Maybe post the rules in the Discord? It's a decent game but difficult to figure out who "won".

Sam B

Maybe include some listener questions in the chatterbox eps? And maybe peruse the remnants of yahoo answers to see if you could help anyone on there?

Emily Roberts

Here’s the thing…. I will literally listen to you guys do anything. Anything at all.

itstimefordeej

If you had one once a month then every 4 weeks would just be a premise from each of you and then a Chatterbox. But maybe that’s too frequent? I loved the episode so more of them can’t hurt in my opinion.

Sneeze

It's a fun episode, like all of the patreon content. I think the general format of your patreon works so well because of the rotation aspect too. Having a chatterbox every so often would be great!

magikarma

I second that they're nice but I do enjoy the games a lot! Also my favorite patreon ep of all time is the couples counseling with the grahn bahns and gash stashon scene.

Bob Hopp

I'd love to have more chatterbox eps, but I don't want to lose the premise episodes. As long as it's a mix of both & not all chatterbox, I'd be totally happy with that.

Calvin Thomas

I thought it was a lot of fun as a break from some of Adal's more high concept episodes, but I still love all of Adal's high concept episodes, so I'm ambivalent.

R Qualls

There’s no in between choice of “I loved hearing you all do typical podcast chat and would love more, but I would also desperately miss regular games and themes”

Brad

I am constantly amazed at how you guys are able to make anything you do hilarious. I bet you guys could do an episode called “Reading the Phone Book” and I would enjoy it.

cancel

Chatterbox is great, much like the Livestreams, so it would be cool to be able to call scenes in response to stories shared!

Suley rhymes with Julie

I just beg for more scenes in patreon regardless of premise. I love you all.

Samelpak

I just like listening to you guys. You're all effortlessly funny.

Derek E Wilkins

I loved it. I usually listen to these at work at 2 in the morning, with no one else in the building, so listening to some funny people just chat it up is a welcome addition to the night.

tazer

i would like to second the idea of using listener questions as a conceit for y'all just going off on whatever topic strikes your fancy

Alex Clermont

Honestly I often forget the premise when y'all go off on your tangents anyway so we can just drop the pretense

Katie D

I always enjoy listening to your chats! I do think it’s nice to at least have a Very loose general direction. Maybe something like reading conversation prompt cards to each other, or a general theme for the week, with the understanding that going off topic is fine!

Noah Kram

I think it's guaranteed to be funny, but I think it's more skippable than other types of eps.

overwaterer

didn’t mind Chatterbox but hope it’s not an all or nothing situation! variety is the spice of life after all 👾

Mike Kelley

These are terrific, and to stay sustainable with as much content as you put out, I think it is smart to include things that comparably take less initial preparation. Anything you can do to keep from burning out is a plus for me as a fan. Chatterbox is like being on a conference call with people I really like, so thumbs up.

Azrah

I think you should add a chatterbox as a 5th episode every month ;)

Clay

I am here for your personalities not for any specific premise. So chat away about anything and I'll listen.

Matty Daddy

Maybe let us submit in a suggestion box for the chatterbox?

Kyle McCowin

It's not a choice but my vote is to change your host rotation so every 4th episode is a chatterbox with no host.

Connor Herwerden

I felt like there wasn’t as much to draw me back since I normally listen to podcasts over multiple car rides. I felt like if I forgot some of the conversation it wouldn’t really track or hold my attention.

Joshua Steiner

I loved the chatterbox format and would love more! ❤️

Lucas Conley

Chatterbox is great! But don't forget the reason the Patreon exists. JPC's Small, Medium, or Large

Samantha Foster

I liked it, and I’ll listen to literally anything y’all put out, but I much prefer a fun game or premise. Wouldn’t want it more than once every few months

Dan Cantu

Chatterbox is cool as long as you are still doing scenes

Ronan Neuman-Hammond

i’d love a mix !! every other week?? one week per month? idk i love y’all but i love games

Elizabeth Teeter

I think it would be cool if you used a card game like So... to help guide the chatter. I think that's the game they use sometimes on Improv is Dead and I think it generates interesting discussions.

Elizabeth Teeter

I also think listener submitted questions could be super fun.

Tinyhumanbrain76

I loved the episode so yes please!! I love when yall just talk!

Knave

Use it as time for Q&A stuff from fans maybe, little things like that so it's not all JPC cousin chatter

Jeff Sparrow

The chatter box is weirdly relaxing. Just listening to people i enjoy listening to talk is super nice. No premise, no games. Just relaxed chat.

Garrett Herring

You are all genuinely funny, so it's great to hear y'all chat, but the fact that every episode has a new twist keeps me coming back. Otherwise, I'm thinking it might get a bit stale. Consider Flatterbox, Hatterbox, give new episodes that good twist we so love and crave!

Danny Gault

I listen for your personalities, not the premises. Do whatever the fuck y’all wanna do as long as you’re having fun.

Laura Brun

love the chatterbox but also please continue the not name that tune name that tunes they're phenomenal

Lindsey Pavlecic

It's like having a conversation with my friends.....who aren't actually my friends....and I don't have to talk. I love it!

casey harding

Do whatever you want, you guys are hilarious!

Leslianne Rowen

As much as I love y’all, yeah… chatterbox isn’t for me… nor is name that tune….. probably only because im too young to know any of the songs y’all are talking about, I’m sure most people are super into it! The thing I would love more of is jpc’s kitchen upgrade trivia, those eps are the best thing that’s ever happened to me lol.

Hey Riddle Riddle

We might destroy each other if we did only Chatterbox episodes. Although, that could be fun? To see us all implode? Hmm, maybe not.

Allyn W

I'd be happy to listen to you having even the most inane of conversations.

Connor MacDonald

Personally, I really liked it! Sometimes it's just nice to hear when people aren't "on", if that makes sense? Like when there isn't a pressing need to do puzzles or as many scenes or anything, and you just get a nice conversation between friends without the tension of "We have to wrap up this anecdote and get back to hating riddles." Maybe they could even be a bit longer? Like an hour 30 or something? Not to add pressure of having to talk for a set amount of time, but if there's less pressure to do a specific bit or premise, I think it'd be nice to kind of let it be a little more lax, and run a more natural course. Then again, if it's unnatural to chat that long, I'm not sure! Just spitballing! Sorry dad!

Chris Conway

Yes, it's a genius premise. I like how if one person is talking about a thing, another can chime in with their own input on that thing, or even start talking about a different thing! I'm thinking of trying it with my group of friends, but I don't know if they'll be as good at it.

Luke 'Punquillity' Elias

So I relisten to patreon episodes all the time, definitely don't feel the desire to go back and relisten to the chatterbox episodes buuuut regardless, I did enjoy it quite a bit and did vote for more though.

Nick Madensky

I love the random chit chat. My favorite episode to this day is still the Red Lobster one!

Jasmine Ellis

Please just more of ordering food for each other 🤣

Vallery Lancey

I’d be happy to hear some more Chatterbox episodes, but I do love the episodes with a specific premise.

Dandy

Today I learnt that Patreon has a comment section. I found chatterbox to be marvelous. Three ridiots just talking and calling out scenes, hell yeah!

Broseph

Loved chatterbox! But I voted against it because I love the games and weird long form scenes more, personally (edit: can I vote for more Disney twins?)

AmadeusMaxwell

I've enjoyed every episode of everything y'all have done, including the Chatterbox ep! In our hosts I trust <3

David

Do love some chatting. Probably takes some creative pressure off. However I think some moderation would be great. So we still get the craziness. Maybe some chatting around certain topics like top movies or music would be great or another food episode.

Jaynor Diaz

I support anything that makes you three happy, so keep the chatterbox coming. Its really nice hearing you three talk about anything.

Ryan Miller

chatterbox was fantastic

Ann Carrigan

It was fun, and hope it makes the regular rotation. I'm still hoping for a trip back to a certain fictional high school...

Austin from Austin

I think there just needs to be a little more structure around it, perhaps to just get it kicked off and transitions, maybe? Less talking about how you don't know what to talk about ha.

Brendan Watroba

I enjoyed it!! I may be alone in this, but The best kind of "just chatting" episodes are ones that are supposed to be something else and then all of the hosts just decide they are just gonna talk for a while instead

Emily P

The number one reason HRR is my number one podcast---and the reason I prefer it over many other excellent podcasts with similar premises and/or tones is the fantastic chemistry you all have together as hosts (you really have THE best chemistry). I listen for the banter-- structure or no. Hearing everyone bounce off each other and genuinely enjoy themselves is what makes the show most enjoyable to me. I personally would love to hear more chatterbox episodes.

Legotti

I’m here for whatever. Direct chat just becomes a background sound episode while doing work. If it’s in the rotation at the same frequency as each other thing, it’s not gonna edge anything out. But review crew is basically targeted normal conversation, so this is review crew lite.

Robyn

My favorite episodes are the ones that are mostly y’all talking and telling stories. E.g. CC#6 SNL Stories. If I had to nominate one type of episode to stay in the rotation forever, it would be Chatterbox.

Legotti

If I had to choose a frequency, maybe one every other month max? Once a month would feel too frequent cause of other options that don’t show up that often. We already get the monthly streams for just-chatting episodes.

Hes

I liked chatterbox and I like that more chilled format sometimes. I think i would love it if you did chatterbox with scenes with invited guests on too

Dr. Hambone

Here's a solution that satisfies everyone. Make Chatterbox the main feed and games and such on the patreon. Riddles be damned (sorry JPC)

Hey Riddle Riddle

the streams are only for $8 and Chatterbox is for $5 folks, but yes, point taken!

Ted Patrick

Yes! I loved the chatterbox episode, I listen to the show because the hosts are funny and have great chemistry together. For my tastes the show is at its best when it's very loose and Adal, Erin and JPC's genuine sibling-esque affection for each other can shine through. That's the shit that got me through lockdown.

Ashe

Hell yes to more chatterbox episodes, but also just because it seems bringing up what we love helps, please more Small, Medium, or Large! Also JPC’s crazy hard Gameshow!

Maddie

I enjoy episodes derailed by mostly chatter, but a fully chatterbox episode was lacking something. You guys ARE great, though. Given all the content you produce, I understand the need for chatterbox episodes. Maybe if some scenes were thrown in the mix. I can't remember if you did that or not. I'm sure talking daily experiences could lead to some fun prompts!

Jacob Meyer

100 % agree thanks for that, was just about to write pretty much the same

Ivo the Mad Sorcerer

I think it helps when you guys have a structure to fall back on, but you're also fine with getting derailed away from the structure. The chatterbox episode was super fun though!

Dr.Harhar

I am pretty torn on this one. I love the banter between you 3 but chatterbox felt a little stilted. It was like Jerry told Elaine and George that they were going to do nothing for a week and then they all forgot how to do nothing. I am going to vote a tenative yes but suggest that maybe you add the slightest bit of framework such as doing an ep about all of your favorite memories (for erin) another about your grossest/weirdest stories ( for jpc) or an ep about upcoming media you are excited about (for adal). That way you have a topic to anchor but can easily get off track, and knowing you 3 you will get off track.

Damien Beauchemin

I hate to be "that guy" but I do feel like the chatterbox episode is kind of the opposite of what I enjoy about the show. The banter is funny, and I enjoy the skit heavy episodes (though yes, I am one of the people who likes riddles on a riddle podcast). I think many long running podcasts can fall into the banter trap, but I find myself fast forwarding mainline episodes already when it's too banter heavy. If I am paying I would like it to be closer to the heart of the show, not just chatting.

Meggo

Yeah duh

jollytheoldsaint

I'm all for the format, but just so you know, chatterbox is the title of a movie about...actually, it might be better to live in ignorance....

J-Bru

I voted yes but am adding a caveat. I think you should do all chatterbox episodes while wearing cowboy hats but never mentioning them.

Devon Smittkamp

I wish every single patreon episode was public access tv. Anybody agree? Bueller?

Gin Anderson

I’m still hoping for another of Ethel’s Greatest Parties - the last birthday episode was my favorite in the whole history of the show. I think I’ve listened to it at least a dozen times. Another guided mediation from JPC would be much appreciated, too.

Æsel MT

Oh shit, i forgot about the guided meditation, im mos def going in for a re-listen!

Samantha Falcon

I was about to suggest using Chatterbox episodes as "gap-fillers" for if you can't record something more elaborate for a given week, but... I don't ever recall a missed week on either the Patreon or the main feed? You guys are serious pros! Oddly, even though the actual episode had the exact kind of fun conversations I love about every episode, the *concept* of "just banter" makes me the least excited/interested. And that's in spite of me knowing that you wouldn't put out anything that wasn't exciting/interesting! Like, I trust that if you hadn't found the recording funny, you wouldn't have even have released it. Super thoughtful to put up a poll, hope no one was a major dick, thanks for all your efforts week in and week out!

Karl Deakyne

The chatterbox eps are not for me, I do feel like it takes some of the magic out of the podcast, as it feels less like listening to a performance and more like eavesdropping on a conversation. Moving from a format with a premise to a free form version feels like you are taking the easy way out, which to me doesn't justify the cost of the subscription. I've been debating cancelling my membership for a while because the content has gotten a bit stale, with formats repeated ad nauseam, and I have to say that more Chatterbox episodes would be the final nail in that coffin. Based on the poll thus far, I seem to be in the minority, which is fine, maybe your Patreon content isn't for me, and I'll stick to the main feed. What I like about HRR and the Patreon is your improv scenes, you all are great performers and it's great to see you practice your craft, so I prefer Ethel Mermaid's tapes, JPCs acting class, lost in Space/Island/Woods, or the Fun Shots as opposed to the state eps, the Name that Tune, or Remember This eps. Maybe you could work improv into your Chatterbox eps, chatting for the first half, then using the topics of the chat for improv scenes in the back half. That way those who want Chatterbox get what they want, and those who don't can skip ahead to the content they prefer

Noelle Perera

Hearing y'all goof around and talk about whatever is why I got the patreon subscription tbh. So I, personally, would just love to hear y'all talk about whatever and crack jokes

Bradney Evans

Chatterbox with even the slightest of framework. Literally ANYTHING as a framing device amd then let go is enough for me.

Xander C

Looks like I’m very much in the minority but I’m very much in the no camp. You all seem like very nice people and I’m sure I’d find you interesting if I knew you personally (not just parasocially) but I listen to your content because you’re talented comedians and improvisers, not because I want to hear you debate what to have for dinner tonight. I feel like moving in a Chatterbox direction is leaning into the parasocial and dare I say lazy side of things. At the end of the day I think you all know you have a pretty devoted and positive fanbase and that if you started doing Patreon eps of you reading the phonebook then you’d still have a majority of people saying they liked it. And not to play that card but I pay $8 a month for this content and if it ended up being largely chatterboxes and name that tuneses then I’d probably downgrade that pledge as a result.

Shane A McDaniel

Personally as long as there's some improv scene's with yall the back drop is less of a concern. I don't think yall called for any scenes in the last one. Unsure if that's deliberate for how you view the ChatterBox (eg chilling not working), but Chatterbox with some scenes would be fun.

James Hyett

i seem to be in the minority of the minority people who voted no and then felt the urge a comment because i just want to say: y'all are doing great and i'll be listening no matter what. 🦵🏻👁🐽👁🤙🏻

Annie

I agree with some of the comments above, as long as you call for some scenes I'm totally fine with the occasional chatterbox episode 😊

R Qualls

Do a Chatterbox where you all answer those "42 Questions to Fall in Love" questions
