It's our first ever review of a video game! Did you play it? Did you like it? Did we? Have you listened to the episode yet? We definitely talk about some of those things in the ep so you GOTTA listen. Let us know in the Patreon comments if there is something you'd like to recommend for next month's Review Crew episode.

Erin, I also get terrible motion sickness. My husband tried to show me “Super Monkey Ball” for the Switch and I think I still have a headache from it. Something that works for me when I am traveling is scopolamine patches. They last for 3 days- you can leave them on while you swim/ shower. And it helps a lot, with no drowsiness.

"Rogue" a 2007 Australian horror/thriller crocodile movie!

I haven't listened yet, but I'm excited. This game has a lot of heart put into it.

Now that this has opened the door for video game, I've put Life is Strange part 1 as a suggestion on the discord a long time ago. Will come back and push for it again LOL It's just one episode of the game so it's not so long. Very narrative-based so everyone can easily enjoy and talk of. And Erin won't have motion sickness!

I really enjoyed the walkthrough I watched for this. the game dev, Christopher Floyd was in the chat while the streamer was playing and at the end she called him and they had a little chat about the game, the concept of liminal spaces and some of the art that inspired the visuals. he seems really cool! I was nervous at the beginning of this episode thinking you all hated it lol I'm glad that wasn't actually the case! Also, Erin i feel you. playing video games makes me nauseous too so I just watch twitch and let's plays lol luckily thats not as bad for me.

Vick

Ooh i second this suggestion

Hey Erin! Suggestion for motion sickness playing games: see if there’s settings for motion blur in the game? I was constantly getting nauseous playing Control until a friend pointed out that setting to me. Not sure if it’s an option in Superliminal but that’s something to look out for in your next games.

For your next game review you should review Aviary Attorney on the Switch, without a doubt my favorite game of all time

My sympathies to Erin, I also get wildly motion sick from games (and sometimes movies, which is fun) I don't expect it will be any time soon, but if you're next made to play a game that has a camera (I do not recommend even watching someone play through portal), playing in a room that's well lit but doesn't have glare on the screen well away from the screen (so you have a lot of visible space around the screen) helps a lot. Motion sickness is theoretically (ie idk how true this actually is) caused by what your eyes are processing not matching up with what your ears are feeling which before technology was mostly caused by eating poisons and hallucinating, thus the desire to puke, so setting yourself up to have it seem the most like the rest of the world is still fine and steady and matching your balance helps.

Next month, can you guys review acid?

Jessica Wyllie

was gonna suggest the same! plus part 1 is free on pretty much every platform

Jessica Wyllie

haven’t played superliminal, but based on how y’all describe it, it reminds me of William Pugh’s games: “The Stanley Parable”, “Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger, and The Terribly Cursed Emerald”, “Accounting”. Any of which I think would be a super fun review crew! (altho similarly not great for motion sickness :/ )

If you want another game that will really mess with you, play Pony Island on steam. I know how it sounds, but trust me. That game made me doubt myself repeatedly, and it was wild.

Also, Portal and Portal 2 are the games that got me into playing video games. I highly recommend if you like puzzle games and somehow it's missed you. :)

After two years of listening, "I am become my mother, destroyer of worlds" is one of the best lines I've heard

Solva13

Holy smokes you aren't kidding. I decided to give the game a try right after listening to the podcast and got horrible motion sickness. I've never had that happen before with a game, I wonder if something is just off with the controls or something.

Hugh O'Connor

Something that can sometimes help with motion sickness in games: increasing the Field of View. If you can set it to 90° or a little bit over, that can maybe help :)

AJ

I love the idea of The Review Crew becoming “Oh No Ross and Carrie” and just reviewing stuff like Colonics.

jollytheoldsaint

How ber is he? ....(But really, good for him. And there's probably at least one other reason not to try acid).

Paul Commane

I really want to recommend Outer Wilds as a cool concept/puzzle game to review but I have to imagine the zero-G/6 degrees of motion parts would inflict some horrible motion sickness. Maybe point and click adventure games games with a fixed camera such as Grim Fandango Remastered or Thimbleweed Park would be worth a review?

Gavin Crenshaw

Sensory deprivation tanks are super relaxing and cool, but I would really enjoy a review crew episode of an out of context Riverdale episode. Like a random episode from a season way into the series

Dean Scream 717

I like to think Superliminal is like a cross of Portal and The Stanley Parable. One of my favorite puzzle games is The Talos Principle. The other two might really like it, but I wouldn't want to pressure Erin into playing more games if they make her nauseous. We love you, Erin. ♥️

Devin Traxler

Oh this is helpful for me! I loved this game at first but then couldn't keep going because of the motion sickness, thank you both for this tip!!

Lyra Eshenroder

Erin mentioned a self care review crew. I think you guys should go do a few self care things, like a float tank or cold therapy. Or maybe even both!

Sara McGuire

I highly recommend it takes two - a truly delightful two player puzzle game

Michael Robison

I play a lot of video games and have no trouble with motion sickness from any of them. 10 minutes of this game and I was in bed for rest of the day. There are a bunch of Reddit threads about people getting motion sickness from this game. If you want to try out the perspective changing mechanic, I would suggest Maquette. Great story and didn’t make me feel like I’d been on a non-stop merry-go-round.

Inscryption is a very good little mystery/puzzle/escape room/card game game that has a great story and I highly highly recommend to anyone who's a fan of any of those genres

Rin Abedi

I listened to the episode first and then figured I would probably enjoy it and holy f*ck was I right. Such a good game and Adal’s right that figuring it out your own felt so incredible, but there were some puzzles that I had to look up ‘cause I was so invested in the story that getting stuck for anything longer than 15 min became infuriating and I wanted to move forward. I’m now going back through and trying to get all the collectibles and listening to the developer commentary snd love it even more - would highly recommend!
