The cats truly don't care about their ear being clipped (as long as they're sedated). They have no way of even knowing it was done to them. They don't feel it, it doesn't affect their hearing, and they can't see their own ears or recognize themselves in reflections, so they literally have no idea it was even done.

I'm also getting on the I Agree with JPC Train. I care for a feral cat and I avoid the nocturnal critters by putting out the cat food first thing in the morning. My feral cat friend has the face of a cat that fully grew up with testicles, but we spotted that his ear was already clipped, so we didn't have to catch him and take him in.

Thank you JPC for your feral cat rant. I'm from Australia and we have a huge issue with domesticated roaming cats / stray cats and feral cats. My local area is phasing in cat containment rules including all new suburbs being compulsory cat containment 24/7 and i am so keen

I've had maybe dozens of cats throughout my life, all strays/ferals we've taken in. The only minor quibble is the suggestion that feral cats are hopeless. He's right that you need to neuter them, and that all you can do after that is feed them. But sometimes, for some cats, they'll decide after months or a year "oh okay you aren't that scary you give me food and have never hurt me" and will let you pet them and take them in.
