From Adal:

Hey Future Lizards!

March 2022 has been truly one of the best months of my old ass existence! I had my bachelor party at a friends lake house in Tennessee and we basically played board games and Jackbox games for 4 days straight and just laughed our asses off. I almost just want to do a yearly board game retreat with friends now. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect celebration.

I also just got home from a cruise we took for Jemma’s birthday! We had an incredible time and got to visit the Bahamas, Aruba and Curaçao (known for their liquor used in a ton of tiki drinks!). Jemma gets a wild discount as a flight attendant so we got 8 day tickets for $160 a person which is the cost of one night at a hotel almost anywhere in the US so we might start cruising more often. Hit me up if you have any cruise ships or itineraries you recommend!

I’m thinking of doing a short trip the first week of June as my 40th birthday is 6/1. Sedona is high on my list of US places I’ve never visited but have extreme interest in. I’ve heard it’s choc-a-bloc with ufo’s, weird sites and conspiracies? Let me know if you have any recommendations for me there or in the surrounding area in Arizona!

As per my last newsletter update where I was curious if I could try and snatch the ‘most podcast guest spots crown’ I had a very kind listener (Ben S.) let me know that according to podchaser.com I’ve guested on 143 podcasts! My goal is 200 by the end of 2022.

I’m thinking about buying the new Kirby game for Switch but I’ve never played any previous Kirby games. Is it worth it? Is there another game(s) I should play first?

18 days until the wedding!!!

Here’s what media I consumed in March -

TV:

Our Flag Means Death - just outstanding. Taikai Waititi can do no wrong in my eyes.

Moon Knight

Severance - Erin recommended this to me and I’m already obsessed. One of the most beautifully shot tv shows I’ve ever seen. Such a great mix of genres and a really neat cast.

Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty

Peep Show Season 1 - never seen it but I’ve heard it’s a must watch. Only a few eps in but enjoying it so far!

Survivor Season 42

Zapped - checked this out as the premise is an Earth guy get’s ‘zapped’ into another dimension

Queer Eye Germany

Ghosts (BBC version) Season 2 & 3

Top Chef Season 19

Minx

Human Resources

Movies:

The Batman

I Want You Back

Hedwig and the Angry Inch - Jemma and I have been showing each other some of our favorite movies that the other has never seen and I finally got her into this one which is one of my all-time favorites. Origin of Love is a perfect song.

Taylor Tomlinson: Look at You

Untold: Crimes and Penalties

Other Stuffs:

Board games - Can’t Stop and Puns of Anarchy

The podcast Jordan and Jessie Go with guest Arnie Niekamp! Listen to Arnie’s episode as he’s fantastic on it!

Been on a big Jeni’s ice cream kick and ordered their Everything Bagel pint (it’s bonkers and very good) and the Dolly Parton release of Strawberry Pretzel (also very good!)

Really loving the book Comedy Comedy Comedy Drama by Bob Odenkirk. He’s one of my favorite all time comedic voices and this book is a great insight into his journey and process. Anyone interested in comedy should pick this up

Didn’t get to listen to much music but two albums I checked out and enjoyed are Japanese Breakfast - Jubilee and Ghost - Impera

Got my copy of Sean Coyle’s comic book ‘Skyless’ after supporting his Kickstarter and was super impressed with it!

I guested on the following podcasts!

The Restricted Section - one of my favorite podcasts to guest on! I think this is my 4th appearance? Please check it out!

Escape This Pod - another of my favorites to guest on! Us 3 Riddle hosts have done 2 eps before on this pod and recently I got to do a dog themed escape room with our new 4th host, Janetmorph herself Janet Varney! This is the first escape room I’ve gotten to do with Janet so it was a literal dream come true! Give it a listen!!

Please let me know what you’ve been enjoying so I can check it out!

From Erin

Hello!

Go see Everything, Everywhere, All at once in theaters if you can. I think it’s one of my favorite movies of all time.

Also I’m obsessed with Severance and Pachinko. Honestly, Apple TV is killing it and worth the money right now. Severance and Mythic Quest are two of the best shows of the last 10 years.

The current season of Survivor has also been pretty good so far.

That’s it from me! I hope you all have a great month!

In AZ near Sedona; Grand Canyon Deer Farm. It's a bit north, but if you're staying for a few days, this is definitely worth the trip. You get to feed deer out of the palm of your hand and you can kiss a camel! They have a bunch of animals there and shop cats in the gift shop!

Kathleen Sawisky

Elden Ring is why I haven't seen my husband in weeks. Might possibly be dead. Might have been consumed by the couch. Not sure. All I know is I don't dare amble lazily in front of the tv.

LeopaldChaos

I can't recall if you have been on The Neighborhood Listen yet but I think you would be great!

Evan Cordero

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands just came out. It is a Borderlands spin off. All DnD themed but with the same insane loot shooter chaos you crave. On all platforms except Switch. It is absolutely wonderful

Mia J

Just checked podchaser. Paul F. Tompkins has more individual guest credits, but has only appeared on 121 different podcasts. You're winning, Adal!

AJ

Not me reading Adal’s section thinking, “oh I bet he’d love “Everything Everywhere All at Once” only to get to Erin’s I hope shrurmp is well.

Æsel MT

I've really gotten into Xenia Rubinos lately. She has a really weird style and is mos def worth checking out. Would recommend the album Black Terry Cat, or the song Just Like I, if you're not into trying out a whole album :)

Dean Pearson

Yo Adal, my college buds and I try to do a weekend retreat every summer and we played a game called Don't Get Got last year. You play it in the background of whatever else you're doing. Basically trying to get the other players to say/do weird things without being called out. Makes a great addition to a board game night!

Kyle McCowin

Adal, please do the JoCo Cruise. When they ask for performer suggestions I always write HRR and HftMT. Instead of normal cruise ship activities they have arcade games, author panels, podcast recordings, and great music. Janet Varney was on this year's and was so much fun.

I went to Sedona a few years ago and have been longing to go back ever since - it is absolutely beautiful! There are hundreds of hiking trails to explore ranging from gentle walks to scrambling over red rocks (highly recommend easy hiking in Red Rock State Park and the moderate Devil's Bridge trail). We didn't end up doing any pink jeep tours or vortex/paranormal tours but I've heard great things about those. Also my partner has not stopped playing the new Kirby game for the Switch so would recommend that as well!

Jackelyn Bracamontes

You might like the petrified forest national park, it’s a bit a ways away from Sedona, but is one of the most underrated national parks I’ve been to. There’s also slide rock which is super close to Sedona. Montezuma castle is near Sedona too and is cool if you like 12th century cliff dwellings. That’s pretty much it for my list of favorite rocks near Sedona

Iona

I've mentioned before but I desperately want you all (or just campion of guesting on podcasts adal??) to guest on the worst idea of all time podcast, or for the boiz to guest on here. For an example of their content I highly recommend watching this pilot of a tv series commissioned for YouTube red (never fully realised, but the pilot is gold) https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ebs0C1Wk0gE&feature=youtu.be or podcast in a tree, a podcast which takes place in a tree https://play.acast.com/s/fc4a3126-378d-4439-9b05-0a367ce68e08/f26590a7-3e1a-45c6-8c5a-31dca40b7bbc (also located at the bottom of this slightly less suspicious looking link https://www.worstideaofalltime.com/seasons.html )

Ethan Bridenhagen

Absolutely get the new Kirby game it is fantastic and so adorable and he finally gets a 3D game! So good

Alasdair Robertson

Would love a review crew of Our Flag Means Death! Glad you enjoyed it Adal! Also I fully understand, JPC.

Michael Larson

As someone who plans most of his travel around cool-sounding escape rooms, I recently heard about The Nemesis Club in Phoenix, which is an escape room with a secret entrance throough an ice cream shop. Might be worth a look if you head to the Sedona area!

Nat from Philly

so happy for adal and jpc finally tying the knot and taking their honeymoon together, congrats you two :’)

Ashe

I need to know your survivor picks! I’m team Lydia

Roxanne Millman

I grew up in AZ and we went to Sedona every summer to camp. Red Rock is amazing and has some great trails to hike and places to swim. We always preferred it over Slide Rock because it was less busy. But Slide Rock is also very fun. Go to Oak Creek, which is where you can see a good view of the rock formations. And the vortexes!

Ian Parlaman

Dunno if this is your speed, Adal, but about 40 minutes north of Sedona you can go to an in the trees ropes course at Flagstaff Xtreme. It's got a bunch of ziplines and suspension bridges between trees and puts you between twenty to sixty feet above ground while you're strapped into a harness. It's really fun, and a bit less hippies and crystals than Sedona is.

Zigzagman

I concur with JPC. Elden Ring. That is all.

TheGeek

I am about 5 minutes into the "movie" for the next review crew and "this shit is WILD" is already more than apt.

Kyle Warren

How do we listen to the Patreon content? All I see are words. Words!

Ashley Beltran

I have two sports documentaries to recommend: The History of the Seattle Mariners, and Captain Ahab: the Story of Dave Steib. They're on YouTube, made by Jon Bois and Alex Rubenstein, and both have made me care about sports more than I had ever thought I would. I would also recommend the rest of Jon Bois' body of work, like The Bob Emergency, an analysis of professional sports players named Bob; I Wish Everyone Else Was Dead, a look at the life of 24's Jack Bauer; and last but certainly not least 17776, possibly my favorite piece of speculative sci-fi along with its sequel 20020.

Sophie Hall

This was so great. I love the ones where you don't tell us it's a full episode scene and I'm expecting you to break out of character but it just keeps going with more hysteria. Fucking outstanding!
